[ Despite his reputation as a prominent figure, Casval Mass still held a certain aversion to showing his face in public when he deemed it unnecessary. The fact that he's doing so to what he's deduced to be a bunch of strangers, seemingly picked at random by some outside force, makes him all the warier.
But what Casval likes even less than an overabundance of frivolous contact is a serious lack of answers. And answers were nowhere to be found, in this situation. Those strange lights, those strange numbers connecting him to faces and places he didn't recognize, but above all else, that haunting name, Char Aznable, which plagued his dreams and stole away what little sleep he managed to grasp at night.
So even though anxiety prickles through his consciousness, he figures a straightforward effort on his part may be the only way to find those answers he's seeking—and with a click of a button and a flurry of digits he couldn't discard from his memory even if he tried, Casval makes his first appearance on the network. ]

While some of you appear to have written this off as some kind of joke or hoax, I would advise you that such a possibility is highly unlikely. I am no believer in gods or the mystical forces surrounding them, but for now, we have to accept that what's going on is beyond our present capabilities to understand.
And I would like to understand.
Therefore, I would request—merely for the purposes of resolving this matter, mind you, I've no true personal interest in how you may spend your time—that you all tell me a little bit about yourselves. More specifically, any recent happenings in your lives that have stricken you as odd, or out of place, something that you saw, heard, or felt, anything that can might be interconnected. Because we are all accessing this same "network", we must all then share something in common, even if it isn't immediately coming to mind. I, of course, will disclose whatever you wish to know, within reason.
As a final note, I am currently stationed at Fort Turner, on a joint military venture with your country. I don't expect to be staying very long, so if you would prefer to discuss matters in private, feel free to stop on by; just ask for Captain Mass at the gate and they'll wave you on through. [ His face twitches, briefly, as if to say any juvenile jokes regarding my name will result in painful strangling, courtesy of myself. ] We could always use an extra hand or two around the base, if you've skill with a wrench or some related field.

I'd be more interested in hands-on learning than anything else, actually. I get to do a lot of theory at the school, but not much building or working with actual equipment. Could call it an internship, even.

I actually fly, but my eyes were too bad to get into the US Air Force, so it's just a dinky Cessna I rent out at the airport on weekends. And I can't usually afford the rental fees. I do have an IFR license, at least, single-engine.

Alright, so maybe she wasn't another one of those. At the very least, her dedication, a clear passion, is evident even through the text, and Casval can definitely appreciate that. It makes him yearn for days long past even more, before the day everything crashed and burned, went up in smoke.

An impressive repertoire, thus far. I studied aeronautics myself, for a time, back at university. Very interesting field. Difficult, though... and definitely not for everyone. It tends to weed out the chaff early on.

Point is, I've been at this three years, I'm neck-deep in debt, and I swore I'd finish the degree, so that's what I'm going to do, hell, high water, the ends of the earth or... weird numbers that lead me to message boards that don't seem to operate under normal computing laws and aren't even actually on the internet.

Hey, re: numbers and this weirdness. I got mine back in January; a friend of mine had his a full four years ago. Do you remember when you got your number at all? Even just an approximate date.
I'm probably going to put together a poll tomorrow for when everyone got theirs, but none of this adds up. If it's subliminal, it's an awfully random sampling, and four years is a ways back to plan for... whatever this is.

Sounds like it's been tough going for you. Sorry to hear that. From what I've read, you're not alone; most of this generation's landed itself in serious debt, due to inflated education costs. I've a personal issue with putting a price on knowledge, though I'll spare you the soapboaxing. At least for now.

That's an awfully long timeframe between numbers, you're right. All these inconsistencies are making it hard to nail down a solid theorem of any kind. But put two engineers together, and you're bound to get some results. What those results may be -- ah, I'm sure you already know the end of this joke, so never mind.
Polling sounds like a good idea, if you can pull any data off this crowd. Seems unlikely. Hitting a lot of teenagers and... old men with possessed fax machines.

Ok. I started the thread, thus far I've got one answer: someone who got his number a week ago, while watching the History channel. Weird stuff.
And yeah. Also, so, this really doesn't make sense: the numbers can connect ordinary paper to the network. I tried it on a notebook. That doesn't mae any sense.

So I think it's safe to say what we're dealing with is very illogical by its very nature... which therefore, unfortunately, makes the application of standard logic to it impossible.

And I don't know about that. Maybe it's illogical on the surface, but it might have its own internal logic. Quantum mechanics doesn't seem logical at first, but once you study it, it has its own elegance and its own rules...
That's what I hope is at work here, anyway. Something we don't understand yet.
