I wear a demeanor made of bright pretty things [Semi-Open]

Who: Julien and whoever decided to come with him! See the plot post.
Where: The Locke City Reservoir, maybe an hour's drive west of the city center. It's a fair-sized lake surrounded by forest, with a shoreline that is mostly inclined gravel. It's not suited to canoeing or camping and isn't a recreation site, but the area isn't exactly off limits either.
When: Sunday the 11th! Forwards-dated slightly.
What: Finding the source of the contaminated water.

[This is three threads. Please, PM or plurk me if you have questions or concerns. I'm [plurk.com profile] Joysweeper.

Thread one is pre-reservoir on the tenth - as part of the handwaved preparations Julien wants to see if people actually can sneak, so asked some of the volunteers to meet him in a park. This is specifically set up so Julien can meet Alex and Nick in separate threads, but if anyone else wants to meet/talk casually with him, even if they're not going on to the next two threads, feel free!

Thread two is finding the site and Julien deciding to stake it out. His plan is for some quieter people to be investigating with him, a bunch of more combat-oriented ones hanging back in the woods, and a few people even farther back at the cars, but he doesn't really have authority. Feel free to have people from any group mingle and kill time together, especially if it's been a while since he decides to wait.

Thread three is the tanker full of pink goop showing up, a few hours after thread two started. You're fully welcome to have a character who was in thread two decide to leave and not be there for three! This is kind of in the middle of nowhere but waiting is boring.]

"It's the silver lining, yeah?" John swept his gaze out over the gathering of people. This wouldn't be the first time he had come out to help after seeing something on the network, but this was definitely better planned and organized. "He's good at getting people together, too--something we'll need in the future, I think.

"--Not that I expect to be marching the streets just yet."

"It seems like the last person who was big on leadership disappeared, so--" He paused a moment, realizing what he just said. "Not to sound ominous. People apparently can forget all this if they leave the city, and any changes get reversed."

Emmanuel folded his arms, looking a little uncomfortable. "Basically, we have a lot of questions and not enough answers. Hopefully today will change that a little."
allinvein: (hold up. what damn army?)

Okay, wait--what?

That was... news to John's ears, and it showed in his expression. Eyebrows furrowing, a frown curled his lips. "And you're sure that person has forgotten everything?" he asked, understanding that Emmanuel wasn't exactly comfortable about this topic of conversation but pressing on all the same. "You don't think someone was behind removing them from the city, do you?"

It took him a moment to realize where the misunderstanding was. "No, the, uh--I mean, those two things are unrelated. The forgetting part, at least--I have no idea what happened to that person. But other people have gone on trips with their families, things like that...forgotten everything, then come back."

"Oh."

John just stared at Emmanuel for a moment before slowly nodding his head, gaze slowly sliding off to the side. The fact that people forgot about their second life, as it were, was something he'd heard about, but he didn't think he was familiar with the individual in question.

"I haven't met anyone who's forgotten, and I'm not all that keen to lose what's become a part of me. I'm not comfortable with the idea of that sort of amnesia..."
caosgo: (I have a prophecy)

"You and me both." He shook his head. "At least it seems to be reversible. And apparently we're still within the boundary, even all the way out here." He made a bit of a face. "We'd be in trouble, otherwise.

"I mean, there are some people--I wouldn't blame them if they wanted to get rid of the changes. But the knowledge itself...it's important."

"Right. By this point, it's become such a part of us, whether we want it to be or not," he agreed with a nod. John chewed on his lip for a moment and gave Emmanuel a half-hearted smile. "Even if I'm not sure I like what I may be becoming, this is still me and I'll just have to deal with it."

A part of him wondered what Locke City would be like in a few months. Would it have changed for the better or for the worse?

"Best to look for the silver lining though, yeah?"

"It takes a special kind of optimism, but I guess it's worth trying." His smile in return was a bit tight. "I have no idea where things are headed for me, but all I can really do is hope they won't be too inconvenient.

"We should definitely all be focusing on safety as our top priority."

"Yeah, I agree. If they're willing to do something to the water, I'm not sure I want to know what's coming next."

That said, John didn't mention that there could be a day when they'd need protection from each other. Not everyone was going to turn into a monster, no, but for those of them that were--

Well, that would be a bridge they could cross when the time came. No point in dwelling on something he didn't actually have any control over, right?

"It's good to know that people are offering self-defense classes on the network."
