Action / Semi open

Who: Bakura, Chris, Lyall & Aaron
Where: The Dead District
When: 4/11, late afternoon [Assuming the statue is up then]

The Dead District wasn't unfamiliar territory for Bakura. The allure of Urban Exploration to the young occult nerd was far too strong, as was the promise of places that no one would care about getting just a bit more ruined.

The reason this day was somewhere in between. It had been a week of bad days since Paul's death and going out into the familiar and strangely comforting section of town. Maybe it was because of the strange memories that he felt so drawn. The place that he remembered seeing being destroyed... Kul Elna... It was far too easy to connect the two in his mind.

[[OoC note: This log will have multiple sections, some open, some closed! Please wait until they're up before tagging in! Thank you!]]

Lyall was just rounding the corner from the other direction when Bakura charged. He paused in shock at the familiar face, but he didn't spend ten years as a teacher of volatile teenagers without getting quick to grab collars. While usually assaulting a statue wasn't something he had to intervene with, it was still a scene nobody needed-- especially since there was no real reason for anyone to attack anything, as far as most of the city was concerned.

Thankfully he wasn't too far off. He didn't catch Bakura immediately, and the boy got a couple punches in, but he did grab at the back of his shirt. "Ryou Bakura!" he barked, teacher-voice and all.

((lemme know if that doesn't work D= ))

Generally teacher-voice worked well enough that Lyall didn't have to fend off blows-- which was a good thing, because he wasn't much of a fighter. He lost his grip on Bakura's shirt when the boy twisted back towards him, and took a step back in an attempt to avoid getting hit.

"Bakura, cut it out!" he snapped, somewhere between irritated at him for making such a scene and nervous that he was about to get a black eye from a student. And him with no ability to putting him in detention at the moment.

Oh good. No teenage-enduced black eyes. Lyall slumped with relief, glanced over at Chris in helpless but annoy confusion, and asked, "What was that about...?"

The statue could wait. Even though he could already feel it poking at his brain, feel the slowly elevating stress.

"I hate this place," she said, walking up to him. "Why now, again?"

She was late, actually, but she always was. If Bakura knew her well, he'd probably started arriving late for things too.

"Last time I came here I got lost and almost froze to death. It makes me uneasy," she said. "But if you insist..."

She checked herself. She'd been a bit crankier than usual lately, and that said a lot.

"I get how you feel. But still, let's make it quick, right?"
reapsthewind: (oh really now..?)

"Yeah, yeah, okay," she said. "Whatever. Let's just get going, right?"

"Erm, not really," she said. "It was winter anyway..."

Aaron had heard the news reports: a statue had been erected in the Dead District. What a pointless gesture, he thought, and a waste of funding that could have gone to something less inspiring but actually useful. And why a snake? The symbolism seemed a bit of a stretch to Aaron -- didn't these types usually favor statues of themselves, or famous men long-dead? The whole operation annoyed him.

So, of course, he was going to go see it.

Aaron's steps were sure as he picked his way through the Dead District; he came here often, and it held no fear for him.

At least, it usually didn't. The closer he came to the statue, the more he felt like he ought not to be here -- the more he wanted to leave. Strange.

But before he could consider further, he spotted a commotion over by the statue's base. A young man with white hair was holding his hand in a way that said "injured." Aaron's long strides made short work of the distance, and he called out, "What's all this about?"

And a thirty-something man with sandy hair was looking none to steady, himself. Lyall still wasn't feeling remotely well, after touching that damn thing, and he definitely looked shaken. He looked up at the approach, somewhere between worried and annoyed, but the voice sounded a little familiar. He couldn't place where he'd heard it before, yet-- he'd heard the network post and made note of it, but never did respond or follow up with who did.

"Nothing to terrible," he answered, trying to smile. "We just had a little run-in with a fist and some stone...."

"Yeah that's... fair I guess. You have anywhere particular in mind besides that place with the fire escape?"

"Hey, hey," she said, reaching out to gently take Bakura by the shoulders, to get him to pause. "Look at me, kiddo."

"You're not gonna lose it. I won't let you, I swear on the sky, you got it? You won't lose it."

"Neither of us will," she said, letting go of him after a moment. "I don't know what's going on with us, but whatever it is, we'll keep each other sane, right?"
