[The video feed switches on, and there's Hajime. He looks pretty darn satisfied about something. Kind of like he's done something impossibly stupid, survived anyway, and has now decided that the experience was actually pretty cool and that he is cool for surviving it.]

So Jack and I went by the courthouse to talk to the alien. Between the two of us, we were kind of a spectacle, so Geoff offered us a more private place to talk.

[Yeah, he's pretty proud of that luck there. He usually doesn't grin, but there are hints of one now.]

So we ended up meeting him aboard his spaceship. It's not like we got the full run of the place, but we saw some stuff...I don't even know what most of it was.

But they--the aliens--didn't try anything funny. No surprise ambushes or anything. It was pretty peaceful overall, even if it was...weird. Aliens respect monsters, I guess.

[He's about to switch off the feed, but then he stops.]

And before I forget, are there any doctors out there who could get Jack a doctors' excuse for the past couple months? Something about being laid up with bird-itis?

[That's what you call it when you turn into a giant peacock-thing, right?]

You got to go in a spaceship? What was it like?

Futuristic. Really futuristic. Kind of like what you'd think some advanced alien spaceship might look like, and then some. I couldn't really identify any of the technology.

Is it just like in the movies, then?

What did you guys talk about?

Not really...like it was beyond what a bunch of prop guys could do gluing together random electronic parts.

We asked him what they wanted, why they'd come here, who they were, that sort of thing.

What did you find out?

Sorry if I'm asking too many questions -- I just didn't get to talk to him for very long.

He said they'd picked up on the energy the snake was putting off. That's why they showed up here, so they could stop it. It sounded like they monitor other planets with intelligent life on them.

It's alright, I understand. I'd be asking questions, too, if the situation were reversed.

Do you know why they didn't involve themselves before now?

The little alien they had at the farmhouse--the one they called Tiny, the one some of us fought--was supposed to do that, but he didn't go at it the way they'd wanted. Like he wasn't worried at all about damages.

So Tiny wasn't supposed to attack anyone at all? And they sent him here? Sorry, I'm pretty new to the Numbered, so I have to keep looking things up!

Yeah, he was just here to take care of that snake, but he got carried away. He wasn't supposed to do what he did. He just got here before the rest of them.
