[ Emery's looking much better than he did the last time he tried a video message. His eyes are bright and healthy and he seems to have regained most of his bounce, and that's after helping Aeron deal with the fallout of the Sage attack. He'll say it's to do with the summer sun — he's been rolling around in vitamin D — but in truth it's more to do with having finally learned how to master his gift. ]

Look, the weather's gorgeous today— [ He turns his netbook to get a shot of the view from his bedroom window: there's a burst of bright white lens flare that soon focuses itself properly, showing a blue, cloudless sky and a few birds wheeling around in arcs. Emery's quite excited about it all, so much so that his accent seems thicker, running into Welsh; ] So I'm thinking about taking my stuff to the park.

[ Ah right. The "stuff". The whole reason behind this message. ]

That's what I wanted to ask you about, actually. My café always gets involved with the PatchWorld Festival, which is in a couple of weeks, and this time I'm thinking about doing a sort of ... sister stall? By myself. [ Have a private smile, wry around the edges. ] I thought it might be a nice distraction.

[ Horror is good for his creativity, okay. ]

But I need to know what'll sell! Should I be knitting colourful tea cozies or ... I don't know, making fancy clay tea-light holders? I could paint them, too.

[ Emery smiles, then sets his laptop down on his bed before crouching to rummage around under the bed. The last thing you'll see before the feed cuts is the messy mop of his hair; ]

[ Emery's face brightens into a warm smile as she stumbles her way around the English language; one of the more ridiculous language out there, to be sure! ]

[ Journey time. He picks up his laptop and gives a short tour of his room: there are clay pots and little sculptures dotted all over the place, some more finished than others, as well as surrealist oil paintings, patchwork throws and a few pairs of mittens he knitted back in first year. ]

I just like to make things, is all.

[ He grins. ]

And the money all goes to charity!

Oh! Wow! Wonderful! [ A little excited applause here. ]

I will make plans to buy what you sell! It's very beautiful, and I have pride for you over your arts! You are also sweet to give money to the charity, so sweet.

[ sdlghak;hgs no I am dying of cute, what have you done. ]

I'll look forward to seeing you, then!

[ Her enthusiasm is utterly infectious, too, and he finds himself feeling a little bubblier for it. ]

I don't think we've spoken on here before, though. My name is Emery.

I am Julia. I go to the local Uni and have many work, and because that I have not been much around the city.

It is nice to be meeting you, Emery!

It's great to meet you too, Julia! I've been juggling work and uni too, so I know how that is. Perhaps you'll have a bit more time to get to know the place now that the summer's here?

Is that one of those multicultural festivals where you're supposed to learn about other countries but most people use it as an excuse to eat a lot and then go get drunk in the Scottish section?

[ He looks thoughtful for a moment, as though trying to think of a better way to phrase it ... ]

I think you hit the nail on the head with that one, actually.

[ Have a sheepish smile. ]

But at least it's fun?

I haven't been to one of those in a long time.

You should come along! There'll be lots of food and dancing - maybe even a bonfire in the evening. It'll be great fun.

...I suppose it'll get more done than doing nothing.

[Aeron walks into his room not too long after Emery posted to the network. There's still scratches on his face and neck, but most of it's scabbed over by now.]

Can't you just bake cookies or cupcakes like all the other people do? What on earth's a Patchworld Festival anyway?

[ By now Emery's reclined on his bed watching re-runs of Jerry Springer on his laptop, a pile of knitting in his lap beneath two leisurely clicking needles. He appears to be knitting what looks like a blue and purple scarf. ]

Hm?

[ He doesn't take his eyes off the screen - no offense, Aeron, but there's a female body-builder about to have a showdown with a security guard. ]

Oh, no. I'd have to get health and safety checked before I made anything — and besides, that's what the cafe's doing.

[ Finally, he tosses Aeron a grin. ]

PatchWorld's a big charity thing. It's all about green living and holding hands and singing songs of friendship to one another. You wouldn't like it.

[No offense taken. Aeron is perfectly happy to stay in the doorway.]

Since when did you become an expert on the things I like, Ayliff?

Since I lived here for about a month, I'd say. I know all about you, Penning.

[ But he's just teasing — fond teasing, at that. ]

Why? D'you think you'd want to come?

PatchWorld, huh? I know a few people planning to sell there. Don't do anything with cutouts in paper lanterns, okay, I'd rather Daniels didn't have too much competition. ^_~

Too bad! 'Accidents' tend to happen to his rivals, you know.

Not trouble, we just seem to bicker a lot. It's healthy! He's started leaving me post-it-notes around the flat, detailing my supposed failings.

I hope you manage to get him back somehow. It's just not fair otherwise!

He does have to put up with me, I suppose. And he's really being very kind in letting me stay.

I love blue, personally. But there are so many great colors!

I like blue too — it's my favourite colour, actually. Then red. Then ... green? But I should probably keep red and green away from each other, since it's nowhere near Christmas.

Blue is my favorite too! And red is my second! What a coincidence.

But that's true -- things can only start getting Christmassy around the end of August!
