What: Neku practices his new privacy-breaking powers in non-crowded areas

Where: Anywhere where there aren't a lot of people- he'll move once a place gets crowded

Neku had gotten this strange looking pin a few days ago, but he hadn't thought too much off it. Pins were 'in' now, right? Maybe one of his friends had gotten it for him and he just didn't remember. That theory had to be thrown out the window when he actually took the time to examine it, however. The appearance itself didn't lead him to think that it might be something a bit more suspicious; it was what happened when he pressed a little too hard on it and suddenly heard voices in his head. Voices that, he eventually realized, were other people's thoughts.

He left the pin very much alone for a few days after, not at all comfortable with this newfound ability. When he actually made himself think about it, however, it was pretty obvious this had something to do with the numbers. Maybe this was like the powers some people were getting... attaching them to a pin seemed pretty weird, but then again what about this wasn't. He'd tried pressing on it again, but it seemed like every time he did there was just this cacophony of sound that he couldn't make out. Neku didn't necessarily want to pry into people's thoughts but maybe this would be something that could help them out. He'd just have to practice.

So here he is, whether it be a park, a back alley, or coffee shop, just wherever there aren't that many people, sitting with his new (and very nice) headphones on his head to act like he's not paying attention, hands in his pockets and one messing with the pin every so often. While he's getting that down, there's not guarantee he can hide the reactions from hearing things he shouldn't...

As if he'd ever give up. "...You really are afraid, huh. Trauma?"

"No." He's not afraid of dogs, damnit. At least not on any conscious level. "I've really just... never been around them." Big dogs are actually kind of intimidating to people who've never been around them. Or who have and have been jumped on too many times.

It's why he suffers. Karmic balance.

"Keep any pets at all?" Riku could concede. But he liked Yin's warmth. The solid reassurance of her furry side pressed into his back when sometimes the flat seemed so much larger than it had any right to be.

he's so pretty he has to be tortured?

"No, never." He had wanted a cat at some point, but his parents had said no for a variety of reasons and eventually got him to stop asking. "How long have you had, uh, her?"

...He's so pretty it's fun to torture him. But mostly life is hard when you' have to atone

"A few months. We found her in this park, pretty much," Riku admitted. Yin was remarkably well behaved, all things considered. Someone had trained her well. Before pretty much abandoning her, anyway.

"Really?" As far as dogs go, she's not nearly as aggressive or wild as he would expect from a rescue Neku also knows nothing about rescues, so he's a little surprised. "Did you train her, or was she already like this?"

"She was already pretty much like this. Even knew better than to get our clothes dirty since it was raining. She just went for the bacon." Riku skritched behind her ears, to much tail-wagging approval. Why anyone would go through all that trouble just to abandon her... "We looked for a few weeks, but nobody was looking."

"That seems kind of odd." Even as someone who doesn't like dogs, that doesn't make any sense.

[depolarized]

"Yeah, whoever it is, he's an idiot." Riku tilted his head slightly. "So what're you doing here anyway?"

"Oh, uh, not much." Neku shrugs, trying to look nonchalant. "Hanging out, listening to music, trying to get some sketch ideas."

[depolarized]

"You sketch? Landscape?" What else would you be in a park for, right? He raises an eyebrow at Neku expectantly.

[needsmorezippers]

"Anything, really. Landscapes tend to be what I'm worst at so I'm trying to get better about actually practicing." That wasn't a lie. Technically.

[depolarized]

Riku glances at Neku's clothes. "...Wouldn't have guessed you were an artist. Where's your sketchpad?"

[needsmorezippers]

"What does that mean?" Seriously? Just because he feels like wearing shorts and a t-shirt and doesn't want to dress like a hipster doesn't mean he's not an artist. Still, he'll gesture to his cast aside messenger bag. "In there."

[depolarized]

"Shouldn't you take it out?" That seemed like the kind of thing to do when you planned on sketching.

[needsmorezippers]

Stop poking holes in his sort-of lie. "I hadn't picked what I was going to draw yet."

[depolarized]

He's a Riku. He's made to poke holes in things.

"Or just slacking off."

[needsmorezippers]

Well then screw you.

Neku frowns, crossing his arms. "'Trying' was the keyword."

[depolarized]

"Maybe you'll look more convincing with it out," Riku suggested.

[needsmorezippers]

"I'll put it out when I pick something." Seriously please stop now.

[depolarized]

The heavens smile upon you, Neku, because while Riku is still suspicious about your invisible sketchbook, Yin's getting antsy, walking around and around and tugging on the leash.

"Alright, have it your way." Turning towards Yin, he pulls back a bit to tighten the lead and tilts his head slightly at Neku. "See you around."
