Who: Phillip and OPEN
What: Phillip takes his dog for a walk! Sort of.
Where: The park
When: Sunday morning, June 23

Pharos always liked taking Gloria for walks, especially when he got to do it himself. Locke City was still a city, after all, and his parents weren't always the most comfortable letting their ten year old son wander the streets. But this time, he got the ok to take his dog to the park.

For most of the way to the park, Gloria padded alongside the boy, a leash being held but honestly it didn't really look like it was needed- and Phillip might not have been able to hold her back. But, once they get to the park, people might see that, or they might see Phillip sitting on his dog's back as she trots around.

"Does she have any furniture of her own? A big bed or something she can get on instead?" So Mort sometimes liked reading about animal psychology even though that wasn't his field and even though he had no pets of his own.

"She has a bed in my room, but she doesn't use it a lot." Phillip's bed might be one of the pieces of furniture she likes to jump on. He's not very good at keeping her off.

Given the way Gloria has been dragging Phillip around, Mort wouldn't be surprised at her getting on the bed.

"Why don't you try taking her to pick out a different bed she might like better? Take her to one of those pet stores that let you bring your animals and see if she finds something she likes." Not that Mort actually thinks this is the way to solve that problem, but it's something a ten-year-old might be amused by.

It is! Phillip looks pretty impressed by the idea, honestly. "Really? Do you think that would work?" Sometimes they did that with toys or treats, but never with a bed.

"Well, you'll never know for certain until you try," Mort replied as he continued giving Gloria a good scratch behind the ears. "It could very well be worth a shot."

"I guess you're right. Maybe I'll take her after we're finished walking! There's a pet store on the way home." Nevermind the fact that he has no money to buy such a thing... one step at a time.

"Just make sure she behaves herself in that store. I know a lot of dogs can get overwhelmed by everything." Mort was fairly certain Gloria would be dragging the poor kid around the store if she got excited enough. "You might want to take your mom or dad with you--wouldn't they like to see what sort of bed she'd like?"

"Oh. Right." That would probably be good, he guessed. He could go home and get one of them and go back... "I guess they would. I can go get them first."

Mort gave him an encouraging nod. "I think that would be an excellent idea."

"Ok. I'll do that then!" Gloria seems to be bored of standing still, though, and is nudging Phillip's side to try and get him to move. At least that gets him to pay attention. "D'you know what time it is?"

Mort glanced down at his wristwatch. "It's 11:00, actually. A bit later in the morning than I'd realized."

"Oh! I need to get home soon!" Phillip tugged on Gloria's leash a little to get her to stand, smiling at the doctor. "It was nice to talk to you! You're still gonna be on the network, right?"

Mort gives him a nod. "That's right. I'll be on there if anyone needs me." He shakes his head a bit. "Can't say I'm cut out for any of the more adventurous things some people get into, but I'll definitely still be around."

"Ok." Phillip smiled, leading Gloria away. "I'll see you later then, ok?"

Maki gave him a smile and a friendly wave good bye. "I'm sure you will. Take care, Phillip."
