video; iPhone
[It's been bothering Kotetsu for awhile--the fear and horror and distress of the others on the network since the mine incident. The confusion and the frustration in others not sure who or what they're turning into. Kotetsu thinks he's lucky, in that regard. He's yet to have many memories of this "former life", or alternate self, or whatever it is. There's been little that's really turned his life upside down since first finding out about Paul Ben and the conspiracy the police are involved in.
Kotetsu is still frightened himself, still unsure of what it all means or why them or what to do, but he feels he needs to do something.
When the video comes on, it's late in the evening, and Kotetsu is wearing a simple sleeveless white shirt rather than his usual button-down shirt + vest combo or his police uniform. If you look carefully, you can just catch a glimpse of the stitches in his side. He looks serious, too, no trace of his usual goofy grin or animated flailing.
It takes him a little bit to get going, though--a couple false starts, a bit of fumbling over words, but he pushes on despite it. He's never been the most eloquent, but what's been on his mind is important enough to make the effort.]
... I know things've been--rough, lately. What with the mine and all the...stuff we've been dealing with. The "other us" stuff.
[He sighs, rubbing at his neck tiredly.]
Listen, I--whatever happens, whatever...changes or memories or whatever we get, we're still in this together. We're still us, and maybe we are just some random people with nothing really in common who got dragged into this mess for no reason, but. This is--it's our lives, our home, as crappy as it can be sometimes, and like hell we're gonna let a bunch of alien bastards take it from us, right?
[There's a bit of a pause, and then a couple numbers flash across the screen. The first is his network number.]
The second one's my personal cell. If anyone needs me for anything and I'm not around on the network...[A tiny, self-deprecating laugh] I'm not good for much besides putting cuffs on crooks and shooting shit, but I'll do what I can. Even if you just need someone to talk to, or...someone to drive you to someone you need to talk to.
Don't worry about if I'm busy or sleeping or whatever. Just...know you're not alone, I guess.

[audio]
Still, he's gotta grump at you on principle first.]
Oi, oi, is that how you talk to the guy who's gonna try to get you un-grounded?
[...Y E P]
[audio]
[audio] no i lied, just the one
[audio]
[audio]
Nah, that's okay. I'm pretty sure that'd be a good way to get yourself fired.
[Not that free pizza for life wouldn't be seriously awesome, but you know. Kotetsu has these principles, and all.]
Soooo, uh, where d'you live? You can send it to my phone or use my network number to send it in private if you don't wanna say on the network.
[audio]
...My dad's named Jack, and you'd better refer to him as "sir," or he'll just kick your ass.
[audio] 1/2
[/HUFF PUFF.]
I should be there in an hour-ish?
[Because he needs to stop by Michael's to buy a blue ribbon. e.e Prepare to regret all your life choices?? 8D?]
[audio]
....Uhhh, what's your name?
[audio]
Karson. Valenti.
audio/action
[The name is scribbled onto the ribbon in his own handwriting, though there's a slight smudge in the first letter so it's not quite clear if it's spelled with a 'c' or a 'k'.
Buuut. Welp. A few minutes later he pulls up in the driveway. The car itself is certainly nondescript, an old, beaten-up green sedan with one of the tires distinctly shinier than the other three, due to being newly replaced. But Kotetsu is dressed up in his police uniform, minus the gun and bulletproof vest because he doesn't think he needs them for this.
By the time he rings the doorbell, he's pretty sure he has no clue what the hell he's doing, but it's worth a try, at least.
...He really hopes this doesn't get back to his coworkers.]
action
[ To emphasize that point, Karson slams a door shut. It doesn't matter what door it is. It has now been slam bammed thank you ma'amed. ]
action
Except he peeps through their little peephole and... police officer.
Karson what did you do?
At least he bothers to straighten out his workshirt a little when he opens the door, taking this matter with utmost professionalism. He does not look pleased with this turn of events.]
Can I help you, officer?
action
Nevermind that he's never done anything like this before, and he's not really sure how ethical it is to be interfering in another family's affairs using merely the fact that people are more likely to believe something someone in uniform says than some random guy, but it's okay. It's fine. They're doing all this to save the world, right?? It's not like a little white lie is going to hurt anyone. (Though at the back of his mind, he sort of wonders if the kid wouldn't be safer if he were still grounded and thus unable to participate in crazy, dangerous things like the mine again, but it's too late for that.)
Kotetsu smiles, doing his best to put on an air of relax, no one's in trouble here.]
Ah, hey. Are you Mr. Valenti?
action
At least he's remaining civil.]
Yeah, that's me. What do you want? [well okay semi-civil]
action; THIS IS SO LATE i'm sorry ;~;
He leans against the doorframe as if this is a thing he does all the time and not at all a bizarre favor for a kid he's legit only spoken to once, and that when he was threatening a ticket for texting and driving. >.>]
Well, there was a report about a week back about a large number of, uh tourists getting trapped in a local mine. Your son and some others were involved in the rescue, and thanks to them, everyone got out alive.
So I'm here to give him a--[A beat, which he covers with a quickly faked sneeze.]
--Heh, allergy season, sorry. A Good Citizen award.
...Is he home?
[/t o t a l l y innocent. totally.]
