[Jack would prefer to be more insensible the morning of a day he doesn't have to work. But the insistent repetition of the number in his mind since midnight has been bothering him -- it's far too long to be a phone number, but it feels like it's something he was supposed to remember, somehow. Finally, he gives up and tries the phone anyway... wait, what?]

[[There's a slight lag. Holy crap. He got a response. Holy crap

...he may or may not be staring at his phone in shock in the middle of math class a moment. So lucky the teacher is looking at the board and not him.]]

Bakura. Who is this?

[There's a slightly longer uncomfortable lag, since Jack is now faced with the fact that he knows this number, but not the person on the other end. Not remembering things is not a great sign. The only consolation is that this 'Bakura' doesn't seem to know who he's talking to either...]

Jack. How'd you get this number?

I don't know. It's been in my head a while. But no one's ever responded when I've texted before.

[[Meaning something must have changed. That strange light in the sky... could it have been?

[Another pause as Jack scours his brain for any realistic possibilities that might make sense. The idea of some kind of secret military network is pretty far out there, but it's the only halfway reasonable reason he can think of for strange numbers stuck in their minds. Or maybe he's just going crazy. Crazier anyway.]

Uh-huh. Who are you with?

What kind of question is that?

Elle Une. What is this about?

[She's been filling up a lot of forms lately. Jobs, loans, school... It could be any of those three texting to check up on something.]

That's what I'm trying to figure out. No one's answered any other time I've texted this number.

And you got this number from where?

[twopercent]

I mean, what organization? There has to be a reason we both have this communication link working.

[shiromadoushi]

I don't know. That's part of the mystery.

Look I know the date. If this is some kind of prank, you got me. I don't quite get the point of it though.

I'm not in any. Not even any clubs in school this year.

[[The thought that he might be talking to an adult has yet to cross his mind. This sort of thing always involved teenagers, right? That's how it was in RPGs!]]

If this were a prank it would the lamest prank ever. I'm trying to figure out why different people are replying to a number that was dead yesterday. Are you going to help or not?

She'll probably be more agreeable in person. For now, stranger texts are way too weird. 8(]
