[plot] Invasion: Day 3.1
Who: EVERYONE + Returnees
What: Day 3.1 of the Invasion!
Where: EVERYWHERE
When: ICLy: The 1st of May! OOCly: May 10th to May 15th!
Warnings: Please warn in your subject line if anything that deserves a warning occurs; this includes R-rated things as well as things worthy of a content warning/trigger warning.
The Central info post

Description: For the most part, the activities of day 2 continue. All locations are still under attack; more and more things get destroyed by aliens and defenders (especially the Animals) alike and there are more and more casualties, injured and refugees that are on the run from their homes. In the areas where enemy soldiers managed to get past the numbered and Animals, local militaries and police units are engaged in combat along with trying to provide relief. Inside the echo boundaries, numbered fight and help with evacuations as well as worldwide hectic attempts to create a joint military and political response to the invasion.
The only area that sees a massively worse situation is North America: Having established an inroad to America in Las Vegas, alien troops are quickly gaining the upper hand on the continent, leaving only death and destruction in their way - though their primary goal don't even seem to be humans: The soldiers burn forests and plants and kill all life but with even more determination blow deep holes into the ground and drill deep, fairly wide holes, leaving a complete wasteland behind ...and after a couple of hours of doing so a few very active new or newly awoken volcanoes. Everywhere in Mexico, the USA and increasingly Canada also people are fleeing the combat areas. Streets are overcrowded, airplanes overbooked, ships board whom they can and leave behind many. The wildlife is fleeing as well as fire spreads. Though the native armed forces of the areas that get overrun do their best, they are slowly but surely decimated and forced to retreat, their actions mostly serve to buy the refugees more time.
The alien attacks in Locke City seem to have stopped (and the invaders from Vegas aren't headed for New Jersey), and people have started to move into the city because there are rumours that it will along with the mountain in Vegas soon be the only safe place on the continent - but the lull is false: Shortly after 4pm GMT, attacks on the city will start anew, with renewed force. Faced with this, and having had time to evacuate the area during the lull, Aaron blows up Geoff&Co.'s spaceship. This flattens the houses in the area and bars all who came with it from ever leaving Earth again. It also changes the behaviour of the aliens that came with this ship.
-Geoff will go around and try to charm political leaders worldwide to please negotiate with the invaders: His promise is that they and their people will, if they surrender, receive safe passage to a new place to live in, and that they will be allowed to bring parts of their natural and cultural heritage. What remains of the North and Middle American nations at this point will join talks, desperate to at least buy time. Where ceasefires can be established despite the disparate communication situation, Geoff, alien leaders and human leaders will form conferences. If any character is interested in getting in one of these, they must be a citizen of an involved country.
-For all others, please refer to the threads below.
The numbered will have to combine what knowledge they receive from the aliens and what powers they have, and if they manage to do so, they will be able to get to invaders' boss.
What this day is for: Fighting, but more than that dealing with refugees and destruction and all that follows from that. Also diplomacy. Though the diplomacy both among Earth nations and between those nations and the invaders will mostly be carried out by NPCs, if people want to send their numbered character to chip in, they can contact Kira-mod for an info bundle regarding what will be talked about.
How this works:
- Day 3.1 will have alien encounters in all echo boundaries, yet not go beyond Earth's boundaries yet (this will happen in 3.2). Please NPC these aliens yourself but keep in mind the following: 1. The aliens are strong. They are Darth Vaders, not Stormtroopers, and will give your character trouble. 2. They land in groups of hundred, and like acting as a group to make winning easier on themselves. All aliens in a group have the same one superpower - this power can be pretty much anything, from telepathy through telekinesis to controlling elements, or whatever else you can come up with. 3. If you have any questions, please as them here!
- Day 3.2 will also have encounters with named alien NPCs. Please refer to the starter posts for them regarding whom those encounters are open to.
- Space is now an available echo boundary. Just make sure to not fly too low, you don't want to be at 10% of your echoes mid-air, after all...
- There will be no toplevels on this post. Please start your own threads freely! Please format the subject line like this: "Location(s)/Network | ota/closed/etc". Please keep in mind that each character may change location twice per day (= a maximum of three different locations) and that the moon/space location is still off limits on the 1st Day.
- This post can be used for both network and action threads.
- Keep in mind that returnee characters must have checked in and must request their echoes if they get any.
- Please direct all questions to this thread on the General Invasion Guide
- For the returnee registration, please go here.

If he turns around, he'll see Meredith stand on the remaining wall of a destroyed house, aiming a gun at him.

One of the aliens. It has to be. Aaron grips the hilt of his sword and takes a deep breath.
"If you are one of the aliens," he calls out, "I don't want to fight you!"

He's prone to overworking himself, but every now and then someone manages to prevail upon him to take a break and get out of the basement surveillance station. He doesn't leave the building; that would be insane. So he just sits on the floor with his back against the wall. He's dreadfully weary and he looks it, his attention fixed on fiddling with the toy robot in his lap. Anything to try and keep himself relatively calm.

Luckily, there was a brief moment of peace on this street. Rakka would take the chance to rest against a partly destroyed wall, cautiously sipping on a water bottle. Fougere rested in her lap, eyes shut as he slowly drifted off into an unsteady sleep.
It was in times like this, that Rakka remembered that he was just a baby.

He'll suddenly show up near them and throw paperplanes at them. Don't worry, they're perfectly normal paperplanes, no exploding things or anything.

Despite all that though, even she needed to rest sometimes. Which was what she'd been doing, sitting on a broken piece of concrete when... a paper plane came out of nowhere and smacked her in the head. She looked up to where it came from and....
She crumpled the airplane up and threw it to the ground. Stomped it to when she get up to her feet.
"Seriously? Oh, man, you've got some fuckin' balls to show your face to me again after last time, you piece of fucking shit!"

Locke City // Closed to Stefan
Unfortunately, that's not an option any more. His door is literally missing and parts of the wall are destroyed, the fighting is literally at his door step. So he did the only thing he could do: run away. He sent his doppelganger off somewhere else to keep his dad safe, but the real deal? He ran away to a part of the city that's calm. Destroyed, but calm. At least for now.
That's when he sees all the people. Injured and homeless at best, and dead at worst. The enormity of the destruction begins to sink in and his knees give out. Sitting on rubble-covered asphalt, he holds his head and tries not to freak out.]
/slides in so so late
Other members of his congregation have been running with him, ensuring that there's a safe house - be it a synagogue or a temple or even a masjid. Anywhere secure would work in this time of need. His first-aid supplies are running desperately low, and although he's struggling valiantly to hold the bloodlust at bay, he knows he can't hold out much longer.
It takes him a moment to recognize Jovan, but once he does, Stefan hands his last bottle of water to a kid and rushes over.]
Hey! Glad to see you're okay.

Space/London/Tokyo - ota
A. network/Space/London
Feivel can be called at all times, as he keeps the network accessible through his number written against the inside of the mobile suit near his head.
So whenever he is fighting, which he will both up in space and in London, he can be contacted easily.
B. London/Tokyo
There is a lot of destruction all around. Somewhere in that destruction, a mecha has been parked, and not far from it Feivel is digging through what remains of a convenience store to find something to eat. He'll land in Tokyo during noon local time and in London during noon and evening local time. His head jerks up when he hears someone nearby and his hand automatically goes to the sword at his side, that seems strangely anachronistic with the mecha, considering that it looks pretty medieval. But he won't attack right away and figure out who's approaching first.
C. Closed to Gabriel and Nat/network/voice (London if action)
Have you seen Dad and Mum?
[The house where he saw them last is gone, completely, and the cellars are as broken as the rest (he used the mecha to dig around for survivors, and please don't tell him that something happened to them they must be somewhere else).]
B. Tokyo
The mecha landing nearby hadn't exactly been subtle, and he'd made his way over to investigate after finishing a couple cans of cold soup. Priorities and all. Of course it strikes him as a bit of a surprise to find Feivel digging around in the rubble.
"Phew, that your ride?" As if he totally didn't notice the nervous go for the sword, Tony offers up a spare soup can. "I've found some already if you're hungry?"

Audio / Action at Willow Ridge
I will preface this with the fact that I have gained this information from Miss Young and I understand she has approached others as well. While it may be understandable to doubt her words, our actions have trapped her here on Earth and she seeks to secure her survival. If the planet dies, so will she. And we . . . [He falters for a second before pulling himself back together.] We are not in an advantageous position in this battle. She gains nothing from trying to deceive us on this.
She believes the only way for the world to survive is to find a path to their leader, who she refers to only as the Boy, and convince him to cease the attack. Because Earth is outside his influence, we exist outside that influence, as individuals. What this means, according to Miss Young, is that we may be able to surprise him and appeal to him as a person. [There are other things he has learned, but they are a bit more esoteric than they are relevant to the situation. But he will answer to the best of his ability anyone who may ask.]
She does not know how to reach the Boy, but has informed me Geoff and Badri do, and that she expects the latter to tell someone. Has anyone been approached by him?
I realize this may sound strange, or overly optimistic, or any number of other negative things. But I believe it may well be our best option. We . . . we can only keep going for so much longer as we are and given what's happened so far, I . . . [He swallows thickly.] I don't think it will be enough in the end.
[Having said his piece, Nathan sags in his chair a little. He hopes that he's right, and that the others will listen . . . They don't have much time.]
[Audio]
[The constantly chattering parrots in the background squawk their acknowledgement.]
Let me know if a way there is found. I would like to help with any negotiating we may do.

Network - Video from Locke
Hey. So I ran into that dickhead Badri before and he told me some junk about taking these alien shits out by going after their place of origin or whatever. And it sounds like that's up in space, so... looks like I'm headed up there. Senketsu said he can get us up there, right, Senketsu?
....
Senketsu?
[He blinks as if shaken out of his thoughts and looks at the video feed, quickly catching up again.]
That's correct. I believe that a recent Echo has unlocked a form that will allow us to reach and fight the invaders in space.
Yeah, so. That's happening. I dunno what's up there but it's starting to look like we don't have a choice but to go and see for ourselves so... I dunno. I know we got some robots and stuff so, if anybody else is in. Let us know.
[And the feed cuts out... for a few seconds before coming back on.]
Oh, yeah, and before anybody even brings it up. I can breathe in space now.
I can too.
[And then it goes out.]
[OOC: Replies to this message can come from either Raye or Senketsu. If you'd like to talk to a specific one, just let me know in the subject line.]
Video
[ In fact, he's looming in the background - kneeling - right now. Marina's using a phone this time. ]
Young said we might be able to talk to him, instead of fighting him. Whatever this guy is, he's so powerful that seeing a world like ours that he, for some reason, doesn't understand, is just an excuse to try to mess with it, but he's got emotions and feelings and stuff too.
Not that I won't just fight if it comes to it.

Locke City | Open | About 1pm
She was startled out of her rest by a soft buzzing from one pocket, her jolt sending her water-bottle rolling and falling to the ground. She reached in with an expression of mild irritation and withdrew her phone. She was shocked she still had signal, albeit not much, and that a call could get through at all. Especially considering how jammed the phones probably are. She didn't recognize the number and her battery probably wouldn't hold out much longer, but she answered anyway.
"Hello?" Instantly she jerked the phone back, an angry male voice shouting at her in German on the other end. Hesitantly she put the phone to her ear once more. "Ah-? I was... Yes... yes- NO! I mean- Yes I'm fine. A few cuts and bruises maybe." She paused, having to lean away from the phone again. "How the hell did you manage to get through?" Beat. "Yes I'm happy to hear from you but-... Would you just-... I..." She let out a long sigh. "Then just tell them the truth. I need to stay here. America is in really bad shape. None of you are in a place I can follow anyway." A pause. "I'm not sure why, it's the rules."
She huffed and leaned forward, resting an elbow on one knee, sitting up straight just as quickly as the voice on the other end cut out a little bit. She didn't want to lose the signal (even if it was tempting to just hang up.) "I... Honestly don't know. I'm in a city called Locke right now. Word is that a lot of the western area is in shambles. We've already started getting refugees." She tilted her head. "No... There have been rumors that they're just... burning everything. Even the uninhabited areas. There were even rumors of volcanic activity-" A pause. "Yes, I took geography too... Mm..." she frowned. "That's a good point..."
Her frown just deepened as she listened, her nails drumming on the wood of the bench. "Your wild theorizing doesn't sound quite so insane now, truth be told... No, they look like us." A long pause, pursing her lips. "That... Is an excellent question. I for one-" Her phone beeped. "Ah... I really shouldn't keep talking right now... I said tell them the truth! Look my phone probably won't last that much longer without being charged and I need to be able to contact the people here in an emergency. I need to go... Thank you for understanding. You stay safe too."
Reluctantly, she removed the device from her ear and ended the call before she could change her mind. Her power indicator was flashing red. She locked the screen and placed it back in her pocket, reaching down for the plastic bottle. She took a quick drink before capping it once more. She had a lot on her mind.

She didn't want to go far from Celine for the moment. She may have been eavesdropping a bit...
"Mn. So was that your family? Are they safe?" The 'for now' is implied.

NETWORK \\ open, paging Chris, Isabela, and Vanessa
I've been attacked by one of the first aliens. He has a gun and either invisibility or teleportation. He's gone for now, but...I've been shot. Julien is here, but I'm not going anywhere fast.
If anyone is listening, in Locke, and can come, I'm at the northeast edge of the spaceship blast, near what's left of the John Carter Law Center.
[ooc: you guys participating in the thread can reply here or just jump into the action when the subject line says "go," either way!]

We're on the scene in what remains of Las Vegas- [Click.] -death toll is well into and possibly past the thousands, with hundreds of thousands more unaccounted for- [Click.] -total destruction in their wake. Nothing is left standing- [Click.] -said they'd be there for us. Where are the Numbered? Clearly-
[A quiet jingle as Winter clicks the television off, roughly returning the remote to the table before burying her head in the couch cushion and screaming until she's out of breath. When she pulls back, the stress is showing. There are bags under her eyes, little cuts everywhere, and bits of her hair are frayed and singed, even in this form. She's taking a break from being Cure Diamond; she's been in the form too long, and she's too tired to hold it unless she needs to. She's beginning to wonder if she's going to get a nap in after all, or if she's going to have to go back out there like this. Because it's not going to get any better while she rests.
Half an hour passes. An hour. Two. Did she sleep at all? She's not sure. Everything's... blurring together, a little bit. One moment, she's staring at the black TV, the next she feels like she's floating, and at some point she jolts awake. Maybe a sound she heard outside, or a nightmare. Hard to say. But she's not doing so well.]
[B | Willow Ridge command room | lunchtime]
[At some point, Winter gave up on getting any rest, and decided she had one more place to stop before she went back to "work" for the day. That place is Willow Ridge, to visit her mother. She'd worried about April, but she trusted Lazarus and Nathan to keep her safe if something happened. Still... she needs her mother now. She's lost, in a way she's not sure even Lily can help with, and she just wants some comfort for a little bit before she wades back into hell.
Winter and April can be found against the wall for a little while, on an empty cot. April's back is to the wall, Winter leaning against her, and she's starting to relax as April runs a hand through her hair. It's not much, and it's hard to say which of them needed the moment's reprieve more. But, for just a little bit, they can forget the world - the war - outside and ease their nerves. If you need something from one or the other... now's about as good a time as any.]
[C | out and about | early afternoon]
[Her nerves are still frayed, but Winter's gotten enough peace of mind back that she can keep going. The prior day, into this one, was a mess. But there aren't that many people that can stop the mess before it's too late, and she's pretty high on that list. She has a responsibility to do what she can... but even before that, Locke is her home. She's reached a point where she's not necessarily fighting for everyone else, anymore. She's fighting for herself, and her bride-to-be, and her mother and father, and her friends. This fight is one she can't lose. She can't look any of those people in the eye if the worst happens.
This time, the fight goes mildly less well. She's too tired to be at her best, but she tries anyway. She just wants everything to be over. There's talk of going to see their boss, and she puts hope in that. Because if she has to keep fighting, she's going to push herself right past her breaking point. And if they lose, there won't be anyone to glue the pieces back together. She works hard to save people she can see, to protect her friends and her home and the things most important to her. But she can only do so much, and she knows it.]
A
Of course, by 'dispatching' one means that in the most final way possible, at times. There's... nothing else to do, is there? So many people, their people, the lives of this world are being lost... They'll do nothing but keep coming. They won't stop. Not unless... they stop completely. It's something she knows will weigh heavily on her eventually, for now though... She feels numb towards it. Her own purification powers didn't seem to work on them, so they're oddities to begin with...
In the house, Winter is constantly kept in her sights, even if for a long while she's at a loss herself. She can't say, "It'll be alright." Because it's not... really alright, is it?
Even if they win, this sort of thing... this far...
It can't possibly be alright.
So instead of talking, at least at first, but once Winter's drifted off she'll wake up to a pair of arms wrapped around her, a body curled beside her.]
...don't wake up on my account. I'm... watching for things.

While he could force Excalibur to lash out with some of its power in small bursts, it locked up and refused to let him act. Few of the 'conditions' he had no clue about had been met. Though, as Arthur became fully cornered and left with no one to help, the last of those restrictions finally broke away from the sword. The sound of gears turning woke him up and pieces of metal fell away from Excalibur's frame, revealing a much smoother blade.
The restrictions were removed. As small ships and soldiers closed in on him, Arthur understood what it was--restraining bolt. Arthur Pendragon was never meant to possess immense power without repercussion. Only in the right circumstance would he be allowed to exercise that unrestrained power. When he drew the sword, the end result was like night and day. Unlike when he tried it before, Excalibur's blast wasn't simply a blade in the night that cut the sky.
The black light turned everything in its path back to core atoms. Arthur took a battlefield that was already decimated and further pounded it to ash. Excalibur's blast wiped out that force briefly, a black pillar of light vanishing once it was all used up. Falling to the ground with nothing left, Arthur stumbled his way into the ruins still standing, collapsing without a word.

The vampire had been trying to spend her time looking for him but she had been constantly waylaid, in some cases forced to fall back from invaders that could effectively counter her. She would get the answer to where Arthur was soon, though... There was no mistaking the black light that shot into the sky - and tearing up everything in front of it for who knows how far.
So she flew. She flew as fast as she could, barreling though anything that dared get in her way. To have to use that ability could only mean he needed her. Given her speed, it didn't take her that long to reach him.
And there he was, unmoving, bloodied and his armor damaged. She could hardly be blamed for thinking him dead.
"No..." Quickly, she was by his side and embracing him tightly, begging him not to leave her...

After 4 PM, Willow Ridge- Network Video/Action
Lazarus has a small bag of essentials he's run around and gathered, keeping his ice stave and Aaron's standard close. He's asked everyone in the immediate vicinity to remain calm and not panic. The video feed shows some pale and stressed people in a basement lit with candles and flashlights, some of whom brace and wince at the most recent crash and shudder of the old building.]
Some of you might have noticed that our communication feed cut out awhile ago. I'll keep this brief, because we don't have much time. I have non-Numbered here at Willow Ridge, as well as Numbered without immediately practical or powerful abilities. We need someone to get us out of here who can navigate the Ghost Zone, since it's becoming clear that Locke City is no longer safe. There's a portal in the gym, but I can't let anyone go upstairs without protection.
If you can help and plan to arrive via Project Jump, be aware that the teleporter is here with us and as long as we're in danger, it is as well. I don't think we'll be able to save it.

[Misa is quite obviously panicking, though the wear to herself and her surroundings aren't so bad, all things considered.]
Is the teleporter working? Maybe I can come— I don't know what I could do, I could bring things? Can you come here? The Kappa is protecting us, it's dangerous because of the fighting but I think it's winning. We should get you all here!
