Exploring the ghost zone is great. It's a weird and new place and a certain set of siblings is having a field trip. Most of the time, they're together, but sometimes they split up or one of them goes alone.

They peek out through almost all doors that they find, unless Nat's Force senses tell her that something bad is behind the door (and then sometimes Fe opens it anyway). Maybe they look out at a street where your character is just standing, but maybe they open a door right into their bedroom too, or something else entirely...

Well, he thought the language that he just used was ugly, but damn, Hajime, yours is worse. He shakes his head - he has no idea what that guy just said - and wanders over to the chair to check out those gyoza.

"Well, if you only did it once when you were mad, you aren't dangerous most of the time."

The floor seems to drop away, and Nat hangs suspended in a cold place for a few seconds as her heart pounds, and then the world's back. She blinks hard, determined not to be thrown by getting a pulse mid conversation, and finds that she knows what this one is. Should she? yes, of course.

"Smeeleeya whao toupee upee." It's not ugly in the same way, but pitched and slowed down like this to get the effect that she's closer to kwee-kunee than wermo chik it has the kind of sound that goes well with a curled lip.

She clears her throat. "Now that we've all been confusing at each other, I'm Nat, this is my little brother Feivel, we didn't mean to bother you."

Hajime slides the gyoza over so Feivel can take some if he wants. "Only dangerous when I want to be, kid."

"I'm Hajime. And don't worry about it; I was just fixing lunch." They're in his apartment, and he's just going to dispense with the 'Lord of the Bugmen' crap for now. They're just kids, not reporters or anything. "And if we're done with the language lesson for the day, you guys can help yourselves. I've got plenty." There's another motion at the gyoza.

"So you're not an Ainu. What are you then?"

Annnnd he picks up one of the gyoza and start chewing while watching Hajime, waiting for an answer.

Nat's read up on what she can of the Numbered. "Do you know? You've been numbered a long time."

She puts one of the little dumplings in her mouth, considers, and gets another one.

"Yeah, I've been Numbered a long time. Since the network first went live." And, since their not kicking up a fuss over being offered food by a giant bug pleases him, they'll get an actual answer out of him. "I'm called an Undead. Not like I'm a corpse or anything--back where my other guy was, that was their word for...ah...immortal fighting monsters. They called them Undead because they couldn't die."

Not that he sounds proud of that. Far from it; it's more ashamed than anything.

"How does not being able to die work? Or was it only technical immortality, so that they could still be killed? And if so, how did their bodies withstand ageing? Did they completely exchange all cells on a regular basis?"

He just echoes that shapechanging powerful potentially dangerous beings are usually nice if you are on okay terms with them, so even though he's not one of them, he sees no reason to turn down food that is pretty tasty.

But at the same time that statement just posed a lot of curious questions.

Nat figures it's best to seem cool at all times. Offered food by a giant bug? Sure. If it was going to do something awful he could do that himself. ...and it is good. Not something she tastes often, but her and Feivel's parents like them to try a variety of things from different places.

Not to be outdone completely, Nat asks, "Do they still shed cells? Normal things constantly have parts of them dying for hair and skin. Do those die? Is that world coated in a dust of still-living skin?" She's read fiction with morbid premises like that. Wheat that had been made immortal and killed those who ate it, and so on.
