[text | desktop | posted at some ungodly hour] finals suck hi hi hi

WOW hello

So you know what sucks? When you are a student, and have finals, but because you're a PHD student, you're also a TA / part time teacher, and you ALSO have to GRADE finals

I WANT TO DIE

hey I know some of my students are on this network TURN IN YOUR FUCKING PROBLEM SETS don't care if it's the end of the world as we know it, CALCULUS WAITS FOR NO WOMAN/MAN/SPACE MUTANT/WHATEVER YOU'RE TURNING INTO PAINFULLY AND SLOWLY

~in other news~

in my COPIOUS spare time (HAHA LOL :V JK) I did some google sleuthing and mayyybe some slightly illegal cracking and figured out where that artist who makes those godawful ugly statues for Ha Ha We're Totally Not An Evil Cyberpunk Corporation Out Of A Gibson Novel No Sir, aka THUNDER, THUNDER, THUNDER CATS CORP GO, gets his stone

which is an abandoned mine/quarry/Dr. Who set

i think some of you folk checked it out already BUT WHATEVER I want to see if anyone wants to come with me TOMORROW to take a look

because I finally have a fucking day off and haha fuck grading/studying

y'all in?

(if you're my students and you come uhhhh you get 1 get out of jail free card on the final)
(but not question 10. you get to suffer through that one. losers.)

so yeah? I think we can meet up there around 10 AM ish? Early enough that we have the light but not so early that we're like UGHHH EARLY. Bring flashlights + rope. Probably won't need rope but you never know.

Well, good evening to you, too, Chris :)

I already went out to that mine with some of my students. Apparently one of them is just as good of a sleuth as you are, funnily enough. (He spent the whole time collecting samples. It was wonderful. Strange thing, none of the stone samples he collected are the stone those statues come from.) We didn't find much, but we had a bit of an accident and I cut the trip short.

As a heads up, you probably will need rope.

Let us know if you find anything interesting? I didn't smell anything promising or particularly dangerous, if that helps.

Welcome to the wonderful world of teaching. Though I think doing grading AND finals at the same time sounds horrific, I did a little of that when I TA'd in college. Probably not as bad as yours, though :(

I have some rope left over from our trip, too, if you need more. I had to buy it, so it might as well get more use. The kinds of stone in there seemed to be mostly granite, sandstone, and coal. Nothing particularly special.

Anthony fell down a short ledge into a lower level. He's fine now, we apparently had someone around who could heal people. But it was the last straw, in convincing them all to turn their tails around and go home. I couldn't let anyone else be hurt.

If you have another job on offer, oh, definitely take it. Though any job on top of a PhD program sounds horrific to me, personally. I never did get that far.

Good luck finding them if you buried the them under papers :P sounds like you're buried under them right now.

Suddenly I'm kinda grateful I didn't go to college.

I'd be up for checking out the mine. I've got awhile before I'd need to be at work anyway and I could make an excuse for being late if it takes too long.

[Eugene is no longer writing in frosting, but sadly the bright red stays.]

You know, it has been a while since I took a day off.

You get a day off and you want to spend it in an abandoned mine?

[personal profile] testsonseashells 2013-06-13 12:15 am (UTC)(link)
Ah, yes. Remember finals myself. Perfectly, in fact.

Will be joining you at mine.

Luckily I don't have an exam that day.

I'm in.

Had a fairly easy time of it myself - at least with tests. Never too popular with classmates. Something about "being way too fucking smart."

Eugene Yokugawa of MAGNIFICENT BAKERY. I'm a new member of the secret numbers club. You probably missed me offering everyone cake because of finals.

Oh, I agree. Costs are ridiculous these days. Doesn't mean I think I'd necessarily be capable of it, so I suppose it's just as well I didn't get to grad school.

Sounds like you're all set for the mine, and won't be needing me :) Though I didn't smell any off air when I was down there, so that's something.
