[open] Frantic Valentine's Day activities

Who: Siiri, Floweregg and you!
What: So the Dians gave Floweregg the idea to fake a Valentine's day card from Åsa to Siiri. Siiri, good at appropriate reactions as she is, takes Arnold up on his offer to help her out if she needs it and gets an engagement ring, then runs around city to gather flowers and whatever else might be necessary for a proposal, and in the evening finally proposes to Åsa.

I. →Arnold Benedict

Siiri will wait outside the appointed train station only half an hour after the phone call, waiting for Arnold. She's wearing a coat and a bag with a tiny moomin hanging off it, looking as always except for the air of urgency and nervous anticipation about her.



II. OTA for both Siiri and Floweregg - also open to Doppels!

All day round, Siiri will be running around Locke, Floweregg on her heels, to gather things like flowers and maybe a card, ingredients for a very nice dinner and a travel guide for Christmas Island which she will devour in a seat in the mall just outside the bookstore, trying to find the nicest place on the island for a proposal.

Approach her while she stares in despair at the vegetable display in the supermarket or frantically tries to find the travel guide or the nicest flowers at a store (etc etc) - or while she carries home a way too large load of groceries with a little dog running around her legs-, or be approached by a bored dog that sneaks around the area while Siiri is preoccupied elsewhere?


III. →Åsa Oxenstierna

Around noon, Siiri sent Åsa a text to please be ready to be picked up at 8pm and pack her swimming suit, she has something to show her... and no moment later than 8pm, Siiri is on Åsa's doorstep, a large backpack slung over her shoulder.

Well, it was just as well she had nothing else planned for the evening except for curling up on the sofa with a dvd and maybe some chocolate! Although, if she's being quite honest with herself Åsa would admit that she'd drop any plans for the chance to go out with Siiri (and on valentines day no less! But you can have friends dates, right? That's what they've been doing up until, why would one day of the year change that?)

It doesn't stop her from spending the next 8 hours faffing, though. What should she wear? Where are they going? Does her swimming costume make her look fat? If they're going swimming she can't wear too much makeup - not that that doesn't stop her applying, removing, and then reapplying a couple of times to try and get the right amount.

By 8 she's just about ready, and when the doorbell goes she just needs to throw the last few things in her bag. "Almost ready, hang on!" She shoves a last few things in, then runs to open the door, smiling brightly at Siiri as she leans in to hug her and kiss her cheek. "Sorry, I won't be too long. Come in?" And then she's gone again in a whirlwind of last minute preparations, leaving the door open for Siiri to step in out of the doorway at least.

"Siiri! Over here!"

'Here' being the nice black limo with Arnold waving cheerfully at her and one long-suffering driver inside.

"Come on, let's go!" He'll even open the door for her because he is a gentleman, and Mother raised him right.

Siiri turns bright red at the kiss, and after a long moment of just wrapping an arm around Åsa and staring at her she leans down to return the gesture, only on Åsa's forehead because that is simpler with their height difference and - and can she kiss her on the lips? No. No. Proposal first, after she may, hopefully.

She'll look after the smaller woman when she leaves again and steps inside, remaining by the door but closing it behind her to not let the cold air in too much. It is good that Danielle is there - Floweregg will have a nice evening in company and she'll know that she'll be looked after. So all her thoughts can be on this evening - morning, where she's planning on taking the other woman.

"We'll not return before midnight." Just so Åsa can figure that in. After all there is a waiting time with the teleporter...

She'll just

stare. This was... not what she expected (but then, he talked about a heli last time, it's not all that strange that he would have a limo too). She comes over after a long moment and very awkwardly gets into the car.

"Thanks."

Is that how you're supposed to react in situations like this?

[bythewaves]

"No worries!" Arnold is practically bouncing. "So romantic, are you going to propose? On Valentines Day, yeah? You've got the right idea!"

"Jeeves, you know where to go"

"Very good sir." A long suffering sigh.

It's a bit of a mess - more of a mess than Åsa would normally let Siiri see on a planned visit - but Åsa has been trying to tidy as she goes. Her room has the worst of it anyway, and after nipping in to grab her bag (and then returning for her lipgloss) she firmly shuts the door to save Siiri from seeing the clothes that she's strewn everywhere.

"Where are we going?" She asks as she drags her bag to the table so she can transfer her purse in from her handbag and then start hunting around for her keys.

The mess is adorable, Siiri thinks, as adorable as Åsa, and she tries to not look around too much. After all, most people are embarassed by the messes that they make.

"Christmas Island." So they'll have to get to the teleporter, and once they are there... she's studied google maps and her guide intently and hopes that she'll find the place that she picked. Not too far off, but it is supposed to be nearly empty in the morning.

She only belatedly realized that she should fasten her seatbelt and then nods mutely. Yes, propose. On Valentine's Day - it seems to be right, even if it is at a very short notice now. At least she's already made plans in her head for an occasion that she started to consider more and more fictional over the years...

"Where are we going?"

[bythewaves]

"Why, where else! There is only one place to buy an engagement ring, after all!" Arnold grins at her. "Tiffany's, of course!"

[vaimo]

"Oh! What time is it over there? It's summer too, isn't it? Maybe I don't need my coat." Åsa pauses in hunting for her keys, going over all her decisions and double thinking them. But she'll need a cost to get to the teleporter, won't she, and she can just shed a few layers once they arrive. Hopefully that'll be okay.

She still needs her keys anyway, and she finds them on the table in the hall, then fetches her shoes. They're already late, Siiri doesn't want to wait for her to get changed as well. She'll just have to make do. Oh - and it's not even Valentine's Day any more over there is it? Unless they're on the other side of the line, she can't quite remember, but she's sure they're one of the early time zones. Not that Valentine's Day means anything! She's just going out with Siiri after all!

"Okay, I'm ready!"

There is a nod and then Siiri holds out her hand for Åsa to take it, a blush high on her cheeks. After all this will be a very important evening.

And it is really, really good that Åsa doesn't voice her thoughts about it not being Valentine's in Australia anymore because if she did that Siiri might get shocked into a panic for not having thought about that. Because as it is, she... simply thinks in what is Valentine's in Locke.

That... stuns her into silence. She is pretty sure that that is very high-end. Far too high-end for her to even have looked into their window or dreamt about proposing with one of their rings because really. That is money that she doesn't have no and will never have.

She only shakes her head, a sharp, definite motion. No. She will be in debt to him forever if she borrows that kind of money from him, or at the very least for the next ten, fifteen years.

[bythewaves]

"Pish posh" Arnold waves at her. "If this is about the price, trust me, its fine! You helped me out yeah? My turn to do a good deed. And this is True Love! You need the very best. Don't worry about the cost, yeah?"

[hustru]

Is he offering to pay for the ring - no, that can't be. She's not even sure if she would want to allow it (but then, she really needs one, doesn't she?). If it isn't true, though, it is a definite no.

"I could never pay you back." It's an impossibility, so she will have to worry about the cost.

[bythewaves]

"Psh" Arnold waves her off again, even as the Limo pulls smoothly up outside a shopfront. "There's no need for that. This is for your special day, yeah? Don't worry about it."

[hustru]

She wants to protest, but can't find the words - after all she did ask for help. Just not for this kind of help - she had hoped for a few hundred dollars perhaps to buy the rings, maybe a bit of help with picking them out because she knows that her taste in such things can be ...odd, at times, to others, and she wants the rings to be as perfect as Åsa.

So she will get out of the limo when it stops and just stand on the sidewalk, a bit lost.

Arnold hops out and gives instructions to his driver to "Find a spot to park, yeah? I'll call you when we're done."

"Very good sir"

And then he turns to Siiri and grins, offering her his arm. "Shall we go?"

She takes the arm, too unsure of how to proceed from here to do anything but freeze or follow, and so she does a mix of both, staring - rather glaring, because her face just does that - at everything, the store and Arnold and the clerk that comes rushing towards them when they enter.

The whole place feels expensive, uncomfortably so.]

"Mr Benedict!" Well someone shops here often. "What can we do for you today?"

"Jack! Good to see you, how's the family? Listen, this lovely lady needs some special help finding rings! For Valentines, you know? Said I'd help her out. What've you got? Lower end of the price spectrum, if you can!"

"Of course sir! Madam, this way."

Lower end of the price spectrum would sound good if she thought that it is anywhere close to the upper end of her own abilities. Looking around... Most pieces around them seem to not even have prices attached to them. That is always a bad sign.

And Arnold's familiarity with the employees isn't necessarily a good sign, though she at least hopes that it will take a bit of attention from her. At least she is as well equipped as she can, she thinks - all the measurements and a picture of Åsa and one of her hands, in case that should be needed (she feels a bit bad for these because Åsa doesn't know about the ones of her hands, but... well, it's for a good end?)

She sits down awkwardly when Jack offers them seats and throws a glance over at Arnold that reads as a glowering threat but really is panic. Is she supposed to say anything, and if so, what?

Arnold is obviously used to such glares as he only pats her arm reassuringly.

"It's fine. They're gonna bring out a few things and let you see what might suit, yeah? Don't think about prices - that's my job. You just worry about what suits. If you have some ideas already, you can tell them, and they'll see if they have anything that matches."

"Here, sir, madam - these are some of our current designs"

It's not terribly reassuring, but... she looks down at them, and after a moment allows: "She's cute." So the ring has to be too, but... "I'm not." So a pair of rings that... somehow accommodate that?

After a moment, she realizes that this might sound weird to Americans and explains: "Back home both parties get an engagement ring." And she'll dig around her purse to get out the paper with the sizes and the pictures, and place the pictures on the table. Look, that is Åsa, look, that is her hands. She calms down looking at them, glowing with pride. She's so cute.

"Of course Miss." Jack nods and starts to set out some of their current options. "Have you thought about what metal you wanted to use? Or the type of stone?"

"Oh, you came prepared, excellent!" Arnold beams and nudges her to take a look at the selections. "Ahhh, she's so cute! Is that your intended? Jack, make sure to find something adorable!"

"Of course sir" Tolerant amusement.

She shakes her head, a bit helplessly. "Steel or silver?" Technically, she knows from theory, white gold would be better, but that is a ridiculously priced material. Silver jewelry is sometimes still reasonably priced, the material not being as expensive as one might think, so she's at least given it a thought.

And for the stone... "She's from Sweden." If that helps at all? She doubts that it does, but she really has no clue about stones. Arnold, however, gets a blush and a nod. Yes, that is her intended, isn't she cute so much cuteness so adorable. "Åsa." She'd stay that she's numbered, too, but not in front of a stranger.

"Silver? We do have a few, but silver tends to tarnish, if you don't take care of it." Jack nods and points to a few of the silver rings in the catalogue. "We do also have a very few stainless steel but most people prefer platinum for white engagement rings."

"Don't let the price stop you!" Arnold encourages her. "I can cover it, trust me. Pick what seems right. Tell her about the diamonds, Jack."

"Of course sir. Tiffany enagement diamonds are white, and as close to colourless as it is possible to be. Of course, not everyone wants a white diamond! We do have yellow and pink, as well, and they come in all shapes from a standard cut to a heart. You could also chose a different stone entirely, if you preferred."

"Perhaps a blue stone?" Arnold suggests "For yours. To match your eyes, yes? And for Asa, a purple?"

"We do have coloured diamonds in rings that are not strictly engagement rings, of course." Jack nods. "Alternatively, we do have aquamarines, Sapphires, turqoise and other coloured stones, if they would suit instead?"
