Breaking news

((German broadcast, originally by the German state-owned TV program ARD, then bought and in slight modifications (=dubbed/with additions or cuts) broadcast also by BBC International and a number of other international platforms.))

>>BREAKING NEWS<<<

[It's an post-evening in-depth report on the 24th. The newscaster stands in front of a world map, in which the three echo areas are marked in light pink and Lapland in dark pink.]

...and in the same way in which it could be seen over Locke City and Las Vegas in America and the area around Füssen and Reutte at the Austrian-German border, a pink light has shown up over the very North of Finland: Snowy Lapland. Perhaps a nod to today's date, after all Santa Claus is supposed to reside there? Direk Karabulut has looked into it.

[A video of a woman and an Austrian policeman standing in front of Hotel Lilie/Austria is shown in a corner of the screen and after a moment grows larger to cover all of the screen.

Direk speaks up.]
Hello. I'm in front of a hotel where some of the visitors from America with special powers have decided to stay - unsurprisingly, if you ask me: As I've covered before, there has been a good amount of persecution in Locke City, and the situation in Las Vegas remains troubled. And while Locke City seems safe for the moment, it is currently controlled by the military to ensure public safety and order. With me is David Graibiger of the Austrian Police. He is the police representative of the Austrian Police for the supernatural happenings associated with the Tower and the American visitors. Good evening, David, and thanks for coming despite late Christmas hour.

No problem, my family doesn't celebrate anyway. [He gives her a winning smile.

What are the police's plans with this new development?

We already got a call from the Finnish administration and will head over there with a special unit consisting of those "specials", me and my colleague Monika Hallbach of the German police. Simply to look into it and swap some information, right now it doesn't seem like there is anything troublesome happening over there.

Do you think the new pink light changed anything here?

Not from what we can see so far. But if a danger arises, we will inform the public and deal with it - we're not going to pull anyone away from the celebration, but everyone has been told to stay alert.

Thank you, David Graibiger of the Austrian Police. [The camera zooms in on her.]

I will in a moment head inside and see if I can get a few reactions to this new light, but I see that we have a connection with Finland now. Sara Virtanen will tell us a few impressions live from Rovaniemi, the capital of Lapland. How are things over there?

[The voice on the other end speaks English with an accent that is mostly Finnish.] Hello from Finland! So far, there's not much to say, really. It's Christmas, so those of us who celebrate are busy with other things than worrying about it. And so far, no buildings, mountains or murderous giant monsters have shown up. Half the people whom I asked about it on my way here hadn't even noticed it or heard about it, and the other sees no reason for worry - and really, why should we? There is quite enough space here for anything to appear, and we're resilient and able to deal with about anything.

Thank you Sara for your observations! I'll hear from you tomorrow. [The photograph vanishes, and Direk now fills the full screen.] I will now see if I can find someone for an interview.

[Your time to shine! Direk will A. head into the hotel to see if she can find numbered for a brief interview, but her studio will also B. call up numbered in other parts in the world and, if they agree on a short interview, connect them with Direk. Comment below if she/the studio reaches your character! (You may of course also use the comments to thread amongst each other.)

The last interview that she conducts is cut short by off-screen gestures from the man overseeing the production, and she looks at him and then at a note that is handed to her. Her eyes grow wide at the news and she looks at the screen.]

It seems that yet another pink light has appeared. Mark Glaser, do you have more on this?

[The newscaster appears again, and the map behind him now shows two deep pink areas: Lapland and a dot between Indonesia and Australia.] We do not know much yet, but it seems that the Christmas Island, an Australian territory south of Java, has seen a similar phenomenon. We will update as soon as we get further news.

And with that: Merry Christmas from us, and on to a dear tradition of all of us: Three Nuts for Cinderella. Have a wonderful evening!

Winter and Lily are already in motion seemingly immediately; the fact that they can't go straight from here via the teleporter gives them a chance to return home for warmer coats. The one Winter is wearing as she rounds the last landing is definitely not going to cut it in Lapland. As she hits the foot of the stairs, she notices the camera crew and drifts to a stop with a quizzical expression, looking to the reporter. "Something happen?"
peacefulwinter: (What were you proposing?)

Catching the gesture, Winter turns to nod at Lily; the other girl's welcome to come along, but she also knows that Lily is not quite as insistent on public image as Winter is.

Still, it takes her a second to get with the program, but when she's spoken to, she automatically answers, "We are. We'd heard there was a pink aurora in the sky again... which is why we were rushing." She casts a glance at Graibiger, smiling, before returning her attention to the reporter.
peacefulwinter: (I'll trust you.)

"Mm, I appreciate that... and yes, we are. I believe that forming a more official response team is important, considering the gravity of some of the situations tied to the numbered, whether they're our fault or not."

This lady is... kind of intense. It's taking some force of personality not to take an automatic step back.
