Who: Aeron (
edhwierfan) & Colette (
angelskills)
What: kickstarting an acquaintance with some good, old-fashioned stalking
Where: around the city
When: This afternoon
[It's not his imagination. It really isn't. Aeron's neck and back has been tingling with the sort of awareness that comes with being watched since he left the campus to pick up lunch. About an hour later, Aeron had already figured out that someone was following him--how could he not immediately grow suspicious after so many of the networkers had been followed, too?
Another hour later, and Aeron's revising his earlier theory. Whoever's tailed him since he left his class is doing so--badly. It feels nothing like before, when the sense of his follower had kept him on edge even after the presence had faded. This time, it feels more like a curious puppy following someone interesting home--completely harmless, in other words. Aeron had even managed to catch a few glimpses of the girl earlier.
Halfway through the third hour, Aeron finally gets a good look before his shadow can dart away again. What he sees only makes him more confused than ever.]
I know you're there. [Aeron calls out to her.] You're the girl I met at the gallery.
[Aeron can't, for the life of him, even guess what she's doing tailing him like this, but there's no mistaking her from this distance.]

Roughly about a week ago Colette had found a newspaper clipping in her mother's dresser drawer. From there it had been a simple confrontation with her mother before the secrets began to pour out. Years of the fights with Dad had left her mother tired, tired of keeping everything a secret and dealing with the uncertainty of if Colette was or was not her husband's biological daughter. When directly approached she finally let those pent up possibilities fall.
Apparently, there was a strong possibility that this young man was her brother. When she looked into the name her mother had given her for her possible biological father, information had all but fallen into her lap when she had a name and a company, almost too easily, as though it were meant to be. It wasn't something she knew how to approach (or if she should approach it at all) but when she saw him she simply acted - and by acted, she followed him, keeping herself at a decent distance and watching him as he went through his day. That was a good way to learn about your possible brother, right? Stalking him?
Truthfully, she thought she had been doing a good job until he called out to her. She wasn't trained in the art of stalking but it hadn't seemed difficult! So when he calls out she jumps a little. ]
I -- no, I'm just a squirrel!
[ Smooth, Colette. Smooth. ]

A squirrel...that talks.
[The disbelief practically drips from his reply, though Colette can see his suspicious expression herself when Aeron follows her voice to her hiding place. He frowns at her, more puzzled than irritated.]
What exactly do you think you're doing?
[She might not know it, but if she had been less obvious about following him, he might have taken more drastic measures to find his stalker.]
no subject
Stalking you. But that would be a bad thing to say, wouldn't it? Oh no... maybe this was a bad idea. Though it's a little late to change things now. If only she were better at tailing people! ]
I'm... well.
I'm sorry!
[ Wow... so, he... he's really her half brother? Possibly? They are both blond. And share several other features...
Sorry, Aeron, she's staring a little. ]
I just -- you're Aeron Penning, right?
no subject
That's correct.
[Aeron's expression shifts into wariness.]
Why are you asking?
no subject
[ She still has no idea how she should go about this. Should she just come right out and say it? Is that a good idea? Maybe he already knows, somehow? Either way she's still staring at him with huge eyes. ]

[This time, Aeron studies her for a moment, then tilts his head toward the coffee shop he had been about to enter.]
I can see there's a lot more to this than simple curiosity. Care to join me for some coffee? I have somewhere to be later.

[ She straights up a little more and nods her head. ]
That sounds good.
[ She won't bother him for long... it'd be rude of her to impose upon him, after all, and even if he's kind of scary when you first meet him there's a ... kind sort of quality about him too. ]
Thank you.

[He slows down his pace so she can keep up, then opens the door for her.]
So. [Aeron watches her sharply as soon as they procure a table.] I'll start off by assuming you don't often follow people around like this.
no subject
No! Aheheh... I don't, really! I just...
[ Idly, she pulls on the ends of her hair, blond curls splitting every which way. ]
You don't happen to know who I am, by any chance?
[ Any idea...? Is he totally in the dark? ]

[There's something extremely perplexing about the girl and her questions. Aeron's fairly certain he hasn't seen her before they ran into each other in front of the statues. Yet...she seems to expect something from him.]
The only reason I recognise your face is because we both attended the opening of that gallery.

[ She continues to fidget a little. Ahhhhh, she's already this far... she should just come out and say it. She inhales a little before letting it all out in one fell swoop. ]

[ BREATHES ]

Care to repeat that, slower this time?
no subject
[ Okay, Colette you can do this. She steadies her gaze and rests her hands in her lap, fingers intertwined. ]
I... think you may be my brother.
[ Welp. ]

Where on Earth did you get that idea? [Then, he turns away, entire body tense.] My mother grew ill and died not long after I was born. I’m certain my father would have mentioned a sibling, even if it was possible.
You must be mistaken.

Um... I'm sorry. It's just - my mother said that she and ...
[ Oh man how does she even explain this... ]
I think it was only once. About 18 years ago.
