[Having written the numbers on the glass of an office building's window in Locke, Arthur coughed into one gauntlet-clad hand with a grave expression on his face. He was wearing his armor and over his shoulder, there was a sort of twisting bundle of air that bent in the shape of a sword handle. The hood of his armor was up to conceal his face from other people, but for the most part it was kind of a wasted gesture for anyone who would have looked for him in the reflection on the glass.

Fortunately, the little complex he was standing in had been completely vacant at that time.]

I'm really glad I booked that bus to get in at night-- I, um.

[His voice was notably a bit more formal than anyone might have recalled, taking on a remarkably British accent.]

So... Does anyone have a place I could stay at tonight?

[And cue the face of one surprised looking vampire appearing. A vampire who now had a set of large batlike wings, looking decidedly inhuman now because of them.]

Arthur...?

I... Yes, maybe you can stay with me. It's not like there's any lack of space here.

[Despite her surprise... she's happy to see him back.]

[That's a face he hasn't seen in a while. He's glad that Arthur didn't meet his end while going after the possessed car. But the cough has him concerned.]

[Arthur looked stricken--or, rather, he had hoped Emilia wouldn't have been awake at that time. He wasn't presentable enough. He was sweating in his armor already and-- Well, he was red in the face realizing he was thinking about his appearance.]

...Hey. Uh. Sorry, I didn't get what you said, Emi!

[--Majorly distracted. Arthur had to focus a moment to talk to Xander after he replied to Emi.]

I--Yes. Yeah, I'm great! Shoot. I'm--hey, what's your name, again? I'm all over the place.

[Sorry, she's becoming kind of nocturnal out of necessity of late... Still, she doesn't comment on his state.]

I said you can stay with me. I don't think my parents would mind too much...

You sure? [He doesn't sound quite convinced.]

...Xander. We've spoken a few times in the past. [And shared a motorcycle together while chasing down that blood thirsty car.] Although I don't blame you if you've forgotten.

You-- They wouldn't? You sure your dad wouldn't want to break my neck?

[He was thinking of very specific situations, here.]

Xander... [Arthur had to focus a bit. Sorry, but it was tough to formulate thoughts after a girl offered you a chance to stay at her house--]

No, yeah, I remember. You gave me some free cookies and cupcakes--I really had to work that stuff off.

[Yes, he remembers that MUCH more than them fighting on back of a motorcycle. Arthur was a bit of a fatty. Also he might have hit his head a few times that day.]

We don't need to tell him about the night you left... And besides, it's mom you'll need to worry about.

[She's smiling playfully, but there's a slight blush at the memory.]

I did.

[Not going to comment about needing to work out afterwards. You better not have eatten them all in one go, Arthur.]

Were you targeted by the mafia?

[Arthur had Emilia beat in that shade of color.]

Your mom? You gotta warn me. Tell me what I gotta expect.

[All of it. He definitely fell asleep right after, which had been another cardinal sin on top of everything.]

[Arthur paused, giving Xander a sudden and much more conscious look.]

I remember some talk about this weird cult on the sub-reddit. What's this about the mafia?

[No regrets whatsoever, though. Not a one.]

She's a bit... protective. Her 'if you ever hurt her' speeches can reduce a man to tears.

They've been trying to get us to leave their city for some time now. Originally it started with random attacks, but now, they've resorted to kidnapping and threats.

...I wouldn't cry.

[He said, clearly looking like a stiff breeze could probably make him cry if it said just the right thing.]

[Arthur had gotten used to having a normal heart. The problem with having a dragon's blood and heart had been that excitement and emotional growth really hurt when he was prepared for it. He was supposed to be in charge of all that and it would take a little bit of focus to keep it from beating like a steam-engine.

The fact that what Xander just said made him exceptionally angry didn't help--his hand rising up to grip his chest as if he were in some pain.]

Why? Numbered folks--everyone's been helping!

Clearly they don't see it that way. We're apparently getting in the way of their plans and intruding on their territory.

[Sorry, looking like that and saying that earns him a doubtful look.]

Well... Nevermind. Where are you right now, exactly?

[Feeling that doubt, Arthur just sort of... crossed his arms and tried to look a touch taller.]

I'm--Business side of the city. It's near where I used to work.

They think they have competition?

[That didn't make sense to him. Arthur hadn't heard of anyone aside from that one guy who had infiltrated the Mafia touching in on any crime. At least, he didn't remember anything like that.]

Just how many people have they kidnapped?

Three that I know of, but all of them have been rescued.

[She thinks he really needs to hang around her more. Maybe her self-confidence is catching?]

I'll come get you. I won't be long...

[And after ten minutes or so, the first sign of her would be the sound of large, leathery wings flapping...]

... Oh, it's you. I thought you;d disappeared...

[It would have taken awhile for his blood to start boiling at the same pace as before, but Xander managed to get Arthur back into a sort of lively attitude again by letting him know about the mafia.

His ego would slowly increase.]

...Come get me? Oh, you've got a car?

[Then she was gone. Arthur just sort of let that hang until he started to hear the flapping.

He stopped, staring vacantly ahead of himself as suddenly there was Emilia, her black wings much more visible in person.]

Huh.

[Some might have thought three was a low amount, but kidnapping wasn't exactly normal by superhero standards and even Arthur understood that.]

Good. Has anything come up today?
