[Semi-Open] Into the Cathedral Catacombs

Who: Anthonies Janvier and Sparado, Hajime Aikawa, Shou Chinen, possibly Richard Stroud, Xander Jarle, Nick Burkhardt, Soren Castor, Davin Carter, John Smith, Toushirou Hitsugaya, and anyone else who might've expressed interest in an expedition delving after dark into the mummy-infested catacombs beneath a local church.
Where: Below the altered St. John's Episcopal Church.
When: Evening of Saturday, September 6th.
What: Investigation and hopeful threat elimination.
Warnings: Violence and encouragement of good old "Lovecraft insanity".

[It was a really reckless move. Nick'd been keeping an eye on Xander, when he wasn't sticking close to Anthony, and it's starting to worry him a little.

He circles around, coming in at Xander's back.]

You don't have to take them all on yourself.

[As Nick approaches, he can notice that Xander was making sure that the monster under him wasn't going to move. It was excessive and a bit overkill with what he was doing, but he didn't seem to care that he was getting himself dirty by getting up and personal with them. It takes him a moment for him to realize that Nick was talking to him and turns his head to face the homicide detective. His blue eyes were shining with a dark expression and a chuckle escapes him.]

I know I don't have to, but I'll be all right. They can't kill me. Even if they tried.

[He laughs again and turns his attention back to the creature under him, scanning over the decayed body, wondering what else he can break.]

[...yeah, that isn't any less worrying. They may be undead monsters, but Nick's still unsettled by that laughter, and the amount of enjoyment Xander's apparently getting from this.

He knows this place affects them negatively, and he's starting to think it's gotten to Xander.]

It's down, man, enough.

[Nick punctuates that by grabbing Xander's arm, trying to pull him away.]

[Nick would be right about that. Xander was in a dangerous state of mind and armed with a weapon no less.

When the homicide detective grabs his arm, it throws him off from his task and he didn't like that at all. He responded by swinging the blade out at the other man as a warning.]

How do you know it won't get back up after this? It's better to be safe than sorry. [He exhales with a bit of a chuckle.] If we weren't in a enclosed area, I'd burn it.

[Holy shit, Nick absolutely hadn't been expecting that. It's only because of his instincts that he sees the swing coming, and backs out of the way.]

Is swinging a knife at me better safe than sorry, too? I think you're done here, Xan.

No.

[It was hard to say what he was responding to. He was shifting his grip on the hilt as his expression changes while looking down at the body.]

[Nick's quiet for a moment, watching him. If Xander's swinging knives at him and refusing to leave, how long before he's attacking anything that moves? The further they go into this place, the worse it's going to get.

He can't risk allowing Xander near Anthony.]

Don't make me drag you out of here.

[But who would help Anthony climb up the ladder? Xander was the one who assisted him to get down in to the catacombs.]

You won't have to.

[He starts to stand, not bothering to wipe the blood or grime off of him. His attention was taken by the further sounds of combat and starts to move to assist.]

[...Nick'll come up with something.

For a moment, he hopes Xander's saying he won't have to because he'll come with him, but that's obviously not the case when Xander starts moving forward.

He darts around, moving to block Xander's path.]

Not going to happen, man. The state you're in, you're not getting anywhere close to my kid.

[He tilts his head a bit to the side, one eyebrow raising at the statement. It was clear he was confused by it.]

Your kid? When did you become a father?

[Unless Nick didn't mean literally. More like a father figure. Why did that suddenly anger him? His grip tightened on the throwing knife once more.]

[Nick hadn't actually meant to say that. It's one thing for him to think of Anthony that way, it's another to start using it. For one thing, Anthony's parents are still very much around, just not technically in the picture. For another, he has no idea how Anthony'd take that.

But he isn't going to take it back.]

When I needed to. It's complicated, and really not the time. What're you going to do with that knife?

[He doesn't move his gaze from Xander's face, but he's still watching it out of the corner of his eye.]

Oh yes, everything is usually very complicated with you, Nick.

[There was a bit of hostility slipping in to his voice. He takes a moment to glance down at the blade before returning his gaze to Nick's face.]

I'm going to dispose more of those creatures with it. What else do you think I'm going to do?

Now's not the time for that, either.

[His voice is firm, but a little bit of guilt can't help but seep through.]

About fifteen seconds ago you took a swipe at me with it, so how the hell am I supposed to know?

[He does take note of that tone, but doesn't comment on it. Subconsciously, his hands were starting to move on their own as if they were restless from not doing anything.]

You know not to grab someone suddenly when they're armed like that. Or did you forget? [Yes, he was being a bit harsh despite being somewhat careless with his actions.] You were lucky not to get hurt.

I was right next to you, talking to you. It wasn't that sudden.

[His voice gets quieter.]

And I know what you're like when you're surprised, panicked. This isn't it. This is something else.

[It's this place, or at least, that's what Nick thinks.]

You were still behind me.

[There was really no point in arguing this. If Nick wasn't going to get out of his way, he'll take a creative route to get around him by using his shadow mimicry. So, he takes a step forward.]

I feel mostly fine. [Aside from being on edge.] I'm not hurt either.

[Although he was hiding an injury or two under his clothes.]

Not the point.

[None of that is, not when Xander'd been laughing while attacking the monsters and brandishing weapons at anyone who tried to stop him.

But Nick has a feeling he isn't going to talk Xander out of here.]

Last chance, man. You're gonna feel terrible if you actually did end up stabbing one of us.

You say I might intentionally hurt someone, but I know better than that. Our allies look different than those things.

[Plus he had the ability to heal, although it wasn't as strong as Ravindra's. But, Anthony looked somewhat similar to the creatures they were taking out. He was sentient unlike the monsters lurking in the catacombs.

Xander's wrist twitched slightly, flicking any substance from the blade on to the floor.]

Now, are you going to let me go help our friends or not?

No. I don't think you'll intentionally hurt someone.

[But Anthony's similarities to what they're fighting is exactly what's on his mind at the moment. It's making him more paranoid than he normally would.]

I don't think you're in control right now, and I think it's going to get worse. I'm not letting you keep going, man, you're gonna have to get through me.

[The answer he hears isn't the one he wants. A chuckle escapes him as he moves over to a wall and starts to disappear in to the shadows.]

I don't have to go through you, Nick. I have my ways of getting around.

[Fortunately, Nick knows he can do that, and he'd kind of been expecting it.

Also fortunately - for Nick, at least - his relfexes are a lot faster than a human's now. As soon as Xander starts moving towards the wall, Nick's hand darts out, grabbing Xander's arm and pulling towards him.

He's honestly not sure if he'll be able to pull Xander away from the shadows or if he's just signed up to a trip through them, but either way, Xander's not getting away from him.]

[The quick movement from the homicide detective surprises him, but only for a moment since his head was disappearing in to the shadow. Unlike the first time Nick had grabbed him while in transition, he wasn't being pulled out and he was taking his ex with him.

It doesn't take very long for them to appear on the other side of the room, emerging from another shadow on the wall. Xander was trying to pull back his arm from Nick's grip while giving him a dark look.]

Unhand me, Nick. [It was an order and the knife from before reappeared in his hand.] I won't ask you again.

[Right, trip through the shadows it was. When they emerge, Nick's a little disoriented, but still able to keep his grim firmly on Xander's arm.]

Already told you we were getting out of here, man, that's not an option.

[He has no idea where Anthony is anymore, but he can't take the chance.

Part of him is still hoping that Xander will just walk out of there with him, but his body is still tense, ready for a fight, even as his tone lowers.]

We really gonna do this?

I keep telling you that I'm not done here. [It almost came out as a snarl.] I need to do this.

[He didn't want to harm Nick or get in to a physical fight with the homicide detective. Nick had the upper hand due to his constant training and possible enhancements from 'pulses'. While he tried to keep up with his training, but found it difficult to do so when confronted with conflicting thoughts and personality traits. It didn't help that he was a sadomasochist either.]

[His grip only tightens.]

Need to do what? Pound these things into the ground until there's nothing left? Keep going until you can't tell friend from for? Fight something, anything?

[It's not like that isn't a feeling that Nick recognizes, but he can't let it happen here.]

I'm right here, Xander. You need to fight something, do it.
