Who: Morgan and whoever wishes to join her little escapade!
What: Only mildly aware of what's been going on in the city, Morgan decides to try and relax in a park until cat things happen. Yes. Cat.
Where: A park and around the local library
When: Wednesday early afternoon
Warnings: hat damage might be a thing
[ Either the world's slowly going crazy, or these strange events are locked to the city. When she realizes her train of thought, Morgan blinks but couldn't help a small chuckle as she sifts through the past news feed on her iPhone. Strange creature sightings, people acting like they're out of place... Morgan is only slightly disturbed by what she's reading, but hopes that whatever trouble is brewing in this city will be calmed down soon.
Over a bit of a year has passed since her mother flew off to distant shores for another job. She couldn't recall anything strange about the city when she first got here, other than it seemed bustling with life despite some of the shadier parts still tied to Locke City. Maybe a group of people are just acting uppity for some occasion...
It's then that Morgan hears the sound of soft footfalls climb onto the bench she's currently sitting on. She turns her head to spot a gray stray playing around with her wool winter hat. It seemed like a good day today and hardly anyone around to take notice of her or care, so Morgan thought it would be okay to let her green hair out for a change. ]
I'm guessing you like my hat a lot, huh? [ Who cares if she's talking to a cat, it's cute. She slowly raises a hand to see if she could pet it. Its response is to peek under the cover of her hat, blink, and... turn and bolt with her hat.
Did it seriously just-- Morgan jerks to her feet as the cat runs down the park and onto the nearest sidewalk. No, no, no, she needed that one to cover her hair! Before the cat gains too much of a headway, she's running straight after it after putting away her handbook into her purse and adjusting her headphones so that they don't fly off as she gives chase.
Yeah, the world's gone crazy. ]

Yeah, the world's gone crazy. ]

His thoughts continue to meander vaguely in this direction as he finally gives up and glances around, the sound of swiftly approaching steps grabbing his attention. The cat is what he spots first, though, and he frowns slightly as it slows its pace and warily comes closer, head cocked to one side. Is that... a hat? In its mouth?
Sighing just a little, Brendan allows a faint smile to curve his lips and crouches down, slowly extending a hand for the cat to inspect. It's a stray, by the looks of things, and probably has fleas, but if someone is chasing it, he should at least help.]
Hello. What's that you've got there?
no subject
He hasn't seen her yet, but if she's going to get her hat back anytime soon. She scratches the side of her head in mild frustration at the way things have turned out, but maybe if she doesn't make too much of a fuss, he won't bother in the same vein.
Taking a deep breath, she walks closer to the young man and the cat. Its sensitive ears pick up her footsteps and glances at her for a moment before it weaves itself behind the guy. Great. ]
Um, er... [ Well, it didn't seem like he intentionally stopped cat out of knowing it was being chased, but. Still. ] Thank you for stopping the cat...?
no subject
He doesn't seem particularly fazed by the newcomer's arrival, though, even if his attention is still on the cat, and somewhat awkwardly, he tries twisting around to see it and offer his fingers again. Smell them and drop the damn hat, fleabag, his legs are starting to hurt.]
I wouldn't say that I stopped him, but you're welcome. Is the hat yours? It's not really suited to the weather.
[To say the least. It hadn't gotten too hot out yet, but what on earth would anyone be wearing a woolen hat for now? Isn't it spring?]
no subject
When he offers his fingers, the cat merely sniffs the digits and rubs its cheek against them. It really doesn't want to let it go, she thinks with dismay. Sure, she could probably buy another damn hat, but she liked this one in particular. It's already getting dirty by just being dragged around by the cat's mouth.
Morgan tries to circle around to get closer to the stray, but it merely goes the opposite direction. This is embarrassing; she's not planning on playing Ring Around the Young Man with a cat all afternoon. ]
It certainly seems to like you and my hat in equal measure. [ She says with some amount of exasperation and amusement. ]
no subject
[He says it dryly enough, by all appearances ignoring her words, but the truth of the matter is that she isn't helping at all by herding the cat in circles around him. She doesn't have much experience with felines, does she?
Sighing faintly again, Brendan sets down the book he'd been clutching in his other hand and sits down on the ground properly, legs crossed. He doesn't especially fancy the thought of straining his knees all day, and besides, this will go much more quickly if he can coax the cat into his lap.
Carefully, he offers his hand again, scratching the cat gently along its neck if it lets him. He really hopes it doesn't dash off again.]
Does this happen to you a lot? There must be something pretty special about this hat if the cat doesn't want to let go of it.
[He keeps his tone light, fully aware that what he's saying is ridiculous. It's more to keep the cat soothed than make conversation anyway.]
no subject
It's just this one instance.
[ Morgan stops and watches the cat find the young man's lap appealing and promptly slips onto his legs and purring at the treatment. She'd go back to thinking it's cut if its isn't mouth still clutching her hat. She waits for the moment the guy knows when to get her hat from; he's clearly an expert on felines. ]
no subject
I hope it didn't snatch it off of your head.
[Again, idle conversation, but this time, Brendan actually bothers to look up at the girl, and... wait, what?]
... Nice hair.
no subject
Ah-- [ Morgan makes a gesture as though she's trying to pull something down on her head out of habit before she realizes she doesn't have a hat to pull down. Damn and dammit, she masks the attempt by making it look as though she intended to scratch the side of her head again. ]
Thanks? I think. It's, uh, a phase. I mean, everyone else has used every other color more often than the one I chose.
[ It's a rehearsed line, but it usually does the trick. And even if it sounds a bit pretentious, it does what she wants: probably not allowing for further questions on the "choice" of color. ]
no subject
I have a friend with bright bubblegum pink hair. In some respects, green is a relief.
[And, if the trend held... but strangely-colored hair alone isn't enough of an indicator. Then again, why bother hiding it under a hat if she'd colored it herself? Shouldn't it be something she flaunted instead? Unless she really is just that attached to the hat. He can't be sure.]
Perhaps you ought to invest in a hoodie. They're much more difficult to lose.
no subject
[ But she finds hoodies don't do well in holding up the massive amounts of hair she's grown out through the years. That and they feel weird when she's wearing headphones. Though she could cut her hair or tie it up, she's a bit lazy in that regard. She does notice his hand inching towards the hat and hopes he can get it out without too much damage being done to him, the cat, and the hat.
She does find the note about his friend interesting. Huh. She thinks she might have glanced or passed someone by with that color of hair before. At least she isn't the only one with weird hair choic-- er, incidents. Maybe. ]
But that hat was a gift from my mother before she went away.
[ And yeah, she knows, with that reasoning, she should take better care of it. Still, how often do cats just go for clothing like this? ]
no subject
A practical gift, and obviously one you're getting some utility out of.
[To say the least, but with little else springing to mind, it would have to do. The fingers of one hand make contact with the hat in the same moment that those of the other tickle under the cat's chin, at any rate, and as quickly as he can, he grabs onto the woolen object and pulls it away, fully intending to hold it high above his head (and in closer range for the girl to grab) if he succeeds. God, he hopes he succeeds. He's getting gray hairs all over him.]
no subject
Nearly grinning, she dusts the cloth of any dirt and dust it managed to accumulate and briefly notes a small tear on one side. It's a small clip, so she's not too bothered by it. It's still gonna need a wash and mending later. Then she looks down at the man and the cat. ]
Thank you so much, sir, and I do apologize for taking some of your time with this... cat spectacle.
[ After, she extends a hand to help him up if he needs it. ]
no subject
You're welcome, and don't worry about it. Mementos like that are important.
[Or at least... well, he'd know how he'd feel if someone (or something) tried to take away a reminder of his mother.
His gaze drops for a moment, but after rearranging himself a little (and ignoring the cat, no he isn't going to pet you anymore, stop it), he glances up again and accepts the hand.]
My name is Brendan. It's nice to meet you.
no subject
And you, Brendan. I'm Morgan, and you've already met my mischievous acquaintance.
[ Gestures to the cat with a small smile. She glances down at her hat and notes the inside is relatively clean for all the abuse it just endured the past several minutes. Well. ]
It doesn't look like it wants to leave you anytime soon. Maybe you should adopt him? You... kind of look like a cat person.
[ As she says this, she's gathering her long green hair back into the hat easy enough. ]
no subject
I'm not entirely opposed to them, but I don't think of myself as one. They're troublesome creatures.
[He attempts to nudge the cat away a little with his foot— gently, mind. And— oh god, he'd left his book on the ground. Excuse him while he stoops to grab it before the cat can.]
Besides, I'm not sure that I have the time to look after one. Demanding, aren't they?
no subject
[ She notes this as the cat, unfazed by Brendan's attempt to nudge it away, sees him going for the book on the ground and tries to go for it. Unfortunately, he's lifted it off the ground before it could get its paws on that, too. Here, Bredan, have another pathetic mewl.
Phew. She has stuffed most of her hair back into her hat, with only a few green bangs peeking out. She pauses for a moment, wondering if she should do what she's thinking she should do next, but it'd only be fair, right? ]
Again, thank you. I feel like I should make up for the bit of trouble with something.
[ Yes, yes, he said it wasn't much of a big deal, but still. Protocol and all that. Yes. ]
no subject
[He mutters it half under his breath to the cat (yes, in front of a girl he doesn't even know, shut up), but after tucking the item under his arm, he gives the small creature another little scratch between its ears. Shut up.]
You don't owe me anything. Really. I'm not in the habit of undermining altruistic deeds by demanding something in return.
[Unless it suited him, but he isn't saying that allowed. In this case, he's willing to let it slide. Then again—]
If you're determined, though, you can help get this cat away from me before it decides to adopt me permanently.
no subject
[ Well. She is insisting on fair play, so. Holding in a sigh from what she was about to do, Morgan takes off her hat again and looms it at the cat. The cat then finds that more appealing and tries to swipe at it several times, but now she's gotten wise to its antics.
Practical, indeed. She glances back to Brendan. ]
I suppose this could work for now, right? [ Down, up goes her hand. Maybe if she keeps this up it'll tucker out the stray after a while. Or make it disinterested in her hat. ]
It'd probably be best to move somewhere else to make it lose interest. [ Pause. ] If you want, I could offer some coffee. The running's got me thirsty.
no subject
[Assuming the cat doesn't steal it again. Brendan does have confidence in his ability to sneak the hat back once more if it does, of course, but he'd rather not have to bother. Besides, it would cancel out the "debt," wouldn't it?
He watches the cat with a faint smile for a second or two, at any rate, then looks back to Morgan.]
I wouldn't object to a cup, but I'll pay for it myself. Are you always this determined to return favors freely given?
no subject
[ She responds back with a faint smile. She straightens a bit while still holding her hat low enough to keep the cat's interest on that still while she remembers the route to the nearest cafe. ]
And with what's been going on lately, I would think some people just need to relax a bit. Er, well, not that they shouldn't be aware and be careful, but... you know.
no subject
What's been going on? Sorry, you've lost me.
[Or... well, he may have just been distracted with one thing or another to notice if there had been anything bleeding over from network insanity to reality. It's possible.]
no subject
There's been talk about "new creature sightings," but there's hardly been any photos, so I bet it's just a hoax. I guess people have been acting weird in response, too, but it all just seems like it could be a part of the city? Maybe an event's coming up?
[ And here she's admitting to not being a native of Locke City. Not that she feels ashamed or anything, but maybe it's something she missed. ]
no subject
She figures she can use a break from all that excess reading on the side-effects of cocaine anyway, if the faint dark circles under her eyes aren't indication enough. It'd be just an ordinary jog across the park to keep her mind awake and her already toned body in shape, right? Or so she thinks...
That's when a cat zipping by abruptly interrupts her thought process and catches her attention— wait, is that a hat? The hell? Her steps immediately slow to a leisurely stroll, and Regina catches up to the cat with her glimpse at it, raising an eyebrow.]
Where the hell did you come from?
[It's what she's wondering out loud before she makes an attempt to scoop the mischievous cat in her arms.]
no subject
Unfortunately, that makes stopping a lot harder when she finally sees the cat... being picked up by a jogger, it seems. She tries to slow down as much as possible before she collides with the other woman. A few feet... two more... and...!
She skids to a halt mere inches from the woman's back.
Huh... Aha! Good, crisis averted! Before Morgan could let out a relieved sigh, however, another runner from behind isn't paying attention to where he's going and pretty much bumps into Morgan's back, which causes her to nearly topple over the brown-haired girl as her face meets her toned back while the jerk startles and runs away without an apology. ]
no subject
First thing to notice: the super close distance that's enough for Regina to widen her eyes in alarm. Second thing: that hair... the vibrant shade of green looks psychedelic enough for her to squint in confusion. But before she can even make a remark on that--]
Aaah! Wait a minute—!
[The runner doesn't escape Regina's notice, right in the corner of her eye, a swift blur but with just enough shape to pinpoint who's responsible for the sudden weight that's now on her back. Releasing a sharp gasp, she quickly parts her legs and bends her knees to stiffen the rest of her body from falling to the ground. Still, she's no superwoman, not when she's trying to keep both the cat from squirming away from her grip and the girl behind her from toppling over completely. Damn that instant weight.
Gritting her teeth with a vexed glare, Regina lifts her head up sharply and yells at the asshole who just ran away. Really, he's just lucky that she's too preoccupied, otherwise she'd waste no time in teaching him a painful lesson.]
Hey! Watch where you're bumping into, you damn idiot!
no subject
Der, I'm reeddy sowry for da--
[ Huh. Okay, another swipe and she notices she's not bleeding. Just a bit smarting. Either way she drops her nose and even bows her head in apology. ]
Sorry! I'm really sorry about that! I thought I stopped well enough before I even crashed into you...!
no subject
Oh? Uh, I wasn't yelling at you. Some dumbass didn't bother to look where he was going, and I saw him running past us just as soon as I bent down.
[She could've sworn she saw a bruise on the other woman's nose, though. Time to take a closer look!]
Anyway, it's fine. [She pauses briefly, furrowing her brows in concern.] But wow, your nose looks pretty bad.
no subject
Is it? I don't... [ She reaches up to touch the bridge of her nose-- and instantly hisses at the touch. Her brain probably didn't register damage until after she let go of her nose before. Not knowing what to really do at this point, she waves a hand to try and make it less of a big deal than it is. ]
It's fine, really. I'll have it checked later, miss. More importantly- [ Priorities, what are they. ]- thank you for stopping the cat. It's taken something from me.
[ Said cat is just limp and curious from all that was going on before, and the hat in its mouth hangs just as limp. ]
no subject
If you say so. You'd better put some ice on your nose, and try not to bump into anything while it's swollen.
[Or anyone, she mentally adds. Regina settles her gaze on to the limp kitty in her arms, then perks up and gathers it gently with one arm, scratching the ears. Under very close inspection, there's a tiny smile tugging at her lips.]
Oh, so you're the owner of this hat! No wonder you were in such a hurry.
no subject
I am, but I'm not on some sort of schedule or anything right now. The hat's a gift from my mother, and I only just managed to catch up to him earlier before the cat... ran off with it again.
[ Her life is chasing after hats and cats today, apparently. And running into joggers. Speaking of which: ]
Though, are you okay? I hope I didn't bump into you too hard.
no subject
Well, it must really like your hat if it got snatched twice. Let's hope it didn't get any scratches.
[A long, long pause. The mention of the item as a sentimental value catches her attention immediately, before the question snaps her out of her quick reverie.]
— Oh! Nah, it's okay. I've dealt with worse than just being bumped into.
[There's a careless shoulder shrug from Regina. It's true, that's nothing compared to any dangerous tasks she'd done in the past.]
no subject
You... must have lived an exciting life, then. At the very least, you still look well put together, miss.
[ Ooh, the cat definitely loves more pettings. It's its main weakness. Oblivious to Regina's sneaky attempt, it purrs to the motion of her hand. Morgan watches in silent interest and anticipation in hopes this goes well and without any biting or scratching. ]
no subject
It's not really too exciting. And is that so?
[She replies, trying to sound nonchalant about it. There's no way she'll reveal too much, of course, not even with a stranger who seems like a decent girl so far. Regina has to be careful not to slip up, after all. And speaking of revealing things:]
Guess I should say the same for you. You know, with your hair color and all.
no subject
I mean, thanks. Decided I wanted to go through a bit of a change and choosing a color people don't often choose. Turned out a bit too well, though...
[ The last was said in a small murmur. Hopefully all that would explain why she'd go through the extra mile of dying all this hair plus her eyebrows if she looked close enough. ]
no subject
I've heard of someone who has pink hair, but never a green one. I wonder if I'll see a blue-haired person next.
[She snorts a little at her own response, giving the cat some gentle scratches underneath the chin while she's at it. Geez, this stray shouldn't be so cute... and distracting.]
no subject
[ It's the second time she's heard of this person. Maybe she should try and find out who this person is, but that's for another time.
It looks like Regina's is going well, as the woman finds herself distracted by the cat, the cat is distracted by her treatment. The hat is pulled safely away this time! Morgan flashes a relieved smile. ]
Thank you very much! [ She holds out a tentative hand to take the hat back. ] First the news feeds, now this cat... [ Grumble, grumble. ]
no subject
[Regina replies with a snort, not really caring if the small inkling of bluntness comes through. She's not someone who holds back on how she feels unless it's necessary. At any rate, her tone changes once the stranger finally retrieves her hat, and she smiles lopsidedly, holding the cat out in front of her.]
Hey, it's no problem. Glad your hat made it safely in your hands—
[An abrupt pause as she forms her lips into a small "O" shape, looking like she just forgot something.]
Sorry, I didn't get to introduce myself earlier from catching this thief right here. The name's Regina.
no subject
That's a nice name. I'm Morgan; I'd shake your hand, but you seem to like holding onto your "thief."
[ Here, her voice gets a little bit playful, but she knows not to overstep it. They just met, after all! ]
no subject
That cat is distracting. What can I say?
[Letting out a small "hmph" noise, she quickly sets the critter down to the ground, then gently nudges it away from her.]
Shoo, shoo!
no subject
Morgan watches with bemusement and stifles it when it rises in her throat. On her end, she tries to stuff the long flow of green hair that is hers into the wool hat. ]
Looks like its taken a shine to you... but you don't seem to want to adopt it.
no subject
I'm not exactly what you call a cat person, okay? Besides, I'm not sure if I'm up for pets.
[Still, Regina can't exactly kick the cat aside, not when it's giving her such loving glances and mewls. Maybe if she quietly backs away... yeah.]
no subject
We... could go running? Like you were doing before we so rudely interrupted you, Regina.
no subject
You jog, too? I usually do it every other day to keep in shape. [A pause.] Well, by myself.
[Truth be told, this is the first time she's been offered for company and while it's not what she usually does, she doesn't feel like turning it down. With some pursing of her lips, she replies with a light shrug:]
But sure, why not?
no subject
Great! I haven't ran with anyone that much either unless it was with my mother, so we'd be both sorta new to this. Maybe some distance will be a cue for the cat to stop following us, too.
[ Hopefully it works. Cats are notoriously fast when they're onto something. ]
no subject
There's always a first time for everything, I guess. But mmm, that's not a bad idea.
[A finger shoots up at a random spot in the park.]
We could start from that area here and have our stop be right near the exit. What do you say, Morgan?
no subject
That's not too bad. Shall we?
[ To give herself a bit of a warm up before the actual exercise, she lightly jogs to the starting point, glancing back at Regina to see if she's coming along. ]
no subject
Right! Let's go.
[With no second to spare, Regina is already jogging over to the starting point with speedy steps, pacing herself a little so her legs are strengthened up.]
no subject
[ Startled by Regina's speed, she tries to match and they finally reach the starting point. Just as thought, the cat has scampered over after them, tail flicking here and there in curiosity as to what they were doing. Morgan glances back to Regina to see if she's noticed. ]
Your fan wants to join, too.
no subject
Geez, so persistent! Let's see if I can go faster.
[Right past the starting point at this time, she turns up her speed a little as she forces some strength in her legs as she runs. Time for her to check if all the times she participated in running tracks can help her.]
