It's too much to split her attention between both of her girls, who both need her attention. Siiri because Åsa can tell she was lying from how tense her voice was, and Floweregg rather more obviously. But Siiri is older and less obviously distressed, so for now her attention goes to the puppy, cuddling her in so she can stroke her wet, muddy fur and murmur to her, soft and reassuring. "Shh, shh now. It's all right. You're all right."

After a moment or two she looks up at Siiri and smiles at her. "We should get her home." At least it's not cold so they don't have to worry about that, but it's still not a good idea to sit in a muddy lake all afternoon.
