Hey, everybody!

I know it's been a while. Me and my family, including all the robots and Cain... Are going on a trip to Vegas to check it out down there. And you know, take a vacation. It'll be a nice ride between here and there, not having to remember a bunch of bullshit. But we also wanna check out the cool sights! Anyone got any recommendations for tourist traps between here and there?

And hey, anyone on the network wanna hook up for dinner or something while we're in Vegas? I'm a giant robot engineer, and also a doctor. My kid's a helicopter and giant robot pilot, and you are not allowed to see her alone! I have a man-sized robot who is always up for socializing... And uh... Then there's Cain. I'm gonna let him fill out his own social calendar, though.

So, long story short, tell me what's cool between Locke and Vegas, and let me know if you want to hit me up while we're there! I've been around the block a couple of times, so I'll meet up with anybody who needs an old hand to make them feel better about the hand life's dealt them, here I am.

Can't really help you on the tourist trap thing... at least, as far as the ones on the way to Vegas go. If you need some ideas of what to do while here though, I might be able to look some things up.

... But are you really a giant robot engineer? I'm assuming that came from a pulse or something, right? [ Even ignoring the whole 'also a doctor' thing, you know, it's not like giant robots are commonplace. Even if they do exist now. ]

Oh man, I dunno, but that would make the trip a lot more quiet.

That sounds good to me. Id like touristy shit to do but also to see what I can do with the numbered down there. Maybe help out with all that crime or whatever that's going on.

Well, originally I was just a regular robotics engineer, but now I'm a giant robot engineer. That part came in with the echoes. But my regular job is designing and building robotic limbs and organs. So it's not like even the scraps of data I get are tough for me to understand.

[ Okay. Okay, the text thing with him STAYING on video is weird as heck, so she's going to go ahead and switch to video. So congrats, you now see a teenage girl. ]

Okay, I'll look into some things and see if they look like fun. Since I live in Vegas I kinda... stopped paying attention to them after a while.

But that's pretty cool! Is there really not that much difference between the two? [ Because she'd think that ones that were supposed to be grafted to a human body would function differently, but she's a teenager with not much actual interest in science, so what did she know? ]

Thanks, kid! The best kind of stuff is the stuff that locals still like to do, though, so let me know if there's anything fun.

[He taps his finger against his cheek.]

Well, I mean, there are some things you gotta take into consideration when you're building stuff for human bodies, making sure the voltage is safe and the metals and plastics that create the least resistance in the body. But first you gotta know how to build robots at all.

[He shrugs]

The real differences are in the kind of tech that this place doesn't have, and the power source that I've gotta make myself that used to be found around every corner.

That's a bit easier said than done. For the most part, fun for me is maybe going to the mall or the movies. But I'll keep looking and I'll pass on anything interesting.

[ Though for right now she's going to focus on his explanation. ]

I guess that makes sense. So... building robotic parts for people is pretty much harder than building the giant robots if you have the tech and power for them?

There's no place they take you when you go on a fun local trip, for like school or something? A great water park or whatever?

[He smiles.]

Yeah, uh... I mean, the problem with people is that they're all different, and all the parts of our body are designed to work perfectly. So really, it's just all about trying to get even a tiny bit closer to what people once had without making things even harder for them.

[Now he's in the mode, really.]

Like, a guy that loses a leg, he's all right, because the leg is mostly just fairly simple mechanical parts that you don't need a lot of perceptive feedback from, and we can make legs that are so good people are running races with them. But if you lose your hand, things are different. The best hands on the market still can't do everything.

And don't get me started on organs and their external battery supplies.

Haha, oh yeah, THAT guy. Well I'm the guy who builds robots. And has a kid.

[He clears his throat.]

Anyhow, you're pretty enthused about toilet seats. Is this a water or fish thing?

Not really. At least, not for school stuff. I'm in high-school now, so... yeah. I mean, not that there aren't water parks and stuff like that, but I haven't really been to any of them in a while.

[ Not that she wasn't going to be able to find out a bout a few of them, by the time he's ready to go, but that's not the point. Either way, she's listening to what he says, nodding along. ]

All of that's pretty understandable. I mean, if the technology isn't really all that advanced yet, it'd also explain why we're not hearing more about replacement limbs and stuff like that being usable.

But hey, maybe you might be able to figure something out that'd make them work better from all those memories of working on giant robots, right?

[ Wait, he'd have expected FISH GUY to be spending all his time at the Mandalay Bay aquarium. Unless...... ]

Sure, but don't let being a high schooler keep you from having fun. At least... the kind of fun your parents would approve of.

[He clears his throat. As a dad, he has to make sure to say stuff like that.]

Yeah, I'm hoping as much. My friend J's a robot, and he just echoed back a body, but I haven't echoed back how I built him yet. That'd probably help a lot for the job, since he has a human-sized body that he has human-level balance and control over.

I have my own echoes and my own number with which to access the network. I am also a sentient AI.
