[ Hey. Linda's using video this time! This is pretty weird, unless you're one of the few people who've actually talked to her with video before. Most of the time she just does text. ]

Okay. I've been sitting on this for about a week, because I was hoping that staring at it long enough would make me suddenly realize what this thing is. But I'm not having any luck, so...

[ She holds up a necklace that's mostly a red jewel on a chain, shifting it around a bit to make sure that most of it is in the view of her webcam. ]

Does this thing look familiar to anyone on here? Because I keep staring at it and I'm drawing a blank, but I got it back during that pulsing, so... [ It's obviously important, which is why Linda's keeping it with her instead of just sticking it in her drawer and forgetting about it. Though speaking of pulses...]

Also, speaking of pulses, has anyone else gotten a skill that they completely sucked at before the pulse? I used to be terrible at singing, but ever since that light a week ago I've suddenly been able to sing... well, not amazingly, but way better than just decent.

It really feels, well, weird. Like some sort of law of physics has been broken or something. I mean, I know the weird part is normal for everyone, but for some reason this seems weirder to me than, I don't know, suddenly getting green skin would've. At least I would've been expecting something like that, after some of the other stuff I've heard about here.

So yeah, how many of us got 'simple mundane skill we sucked at before' instead of a superpower from these things?

Well... No mundane skills. And I don't recognize the crystal, either. So. Huh.

I'm sorry, I don't recognize it. It's pretty, though... and it's kind of complex, plus the shape is a little unusual. I wonder what it is...?

I can read Japanese now, at least a little bit, and I can kind of speak it. It's partly a pulse and partly studying after the pulse, though. I'm stronger and faster even while I'm n-not transformed, too, but I don't think that counts.

I've got nothing on the necklace. But, actually, a few weeks ago, I was able to ace all my finals with no problem. I mean my grades weren't awful before, but I could just remember stuff so much better. I don't get it, I think an echo made me smarter...

[ Well, that wasn't much of an answer at all... except for the part where it totally was. But she was hoping to hear that it was normal. Ish. ]

Well, I guess that's a good thing for you then? Err, the not getting any new non-power skills thing, not the not recognizing my necklace thing.

If you don't mind me asking, what type of things have you gotten back?

A necklace that I can cast a few spells I've learned through. Memories of a different life. And other oddities.

Yeah. It's definitely pretty... but I have no idea what it is? I thought with how complicated it was that it had to be something special. But considering I can actually sing now, maybe it was just a normal one that past me liked a lot?

[ She blinks when she hears that thing about learning Japanese. ]

... Wait, past you was able to speak Japanese? How fluent in it was she? [ Because that's clearly the most important part. ]

Lucky. Being able to do that would make things so much easier for me. Especially now when we're dealing with... all of this stuff.

But I guess this means that getting things not related to fighting monsters or whatever is totally normal. I mean, if you're suddenly smarter and I'm... well, not attempting to commit genocide against eardrums whenever I try to sing, or people can learn other languages they've never spoken before, it can't be all that unusual.

I wouldn't underestimate anything you've gotten from past-you. Even the most mundane things tend to be important, even if they don't h-have earth-shattering powers. I mean... I have a plushie that turned out to let me turn into a superhero. And... I don't mean to embarrass you, but I hope I can hear you sing one day.

I'm pretty sure Rikka was Japanese, though. All of my abilities while I'm transformed are in Japanese, and whenever she's speaking to people in my memories, it's either... badly-accented English or very correct Japanese. She seems to be very polished with it.

[ Holy crap zombie! This was... probably who Gabriel was talking about a couple of weeks ago. Okay. Okay. Calm, deep breaths Linda. You can not freak out about him. Her cheeks go a little red, before she starts to speak. ]

Yeah. I think someone already mentioned the language thing. It kinda makes me feel a little bit better. Even if I have no idea how singing is going to help me if another giant snake monster happens.

[ She looks back down at her necklace for a moment, before turning her attention back to the monitor. ]

As for this? No clue at all. I didn't exactly get a sheet of paper explaining what it was. At least it's pretty though...

Oh, you have actual magic? That's pretty cool. I've only gotten the singing, this thing, and a few memories. [ Like say, running away from monsters. Which was... yeah. She had no idea what it was about, but it's one reason she's not happy about the lack of superpowers. ]

[Brows in, head down, voice up to a faint... squeak.] What's uhmm - "this" - ? Though. What's -- [Hard throat-clear. Voice stabilizes some.] What's pretty?

[That was the stupidest way he possibly could have asked it.]

Sorry -- I'm just, uhh. Just curious. Just curious what you have, I can't um. [He angles his head a moment, gestures toward his eye sockets.] Actually -- see -- it...

I guess. Just wish that I had some idea of what it was supposed to do even if it is important. And... well, once I have some more practice with singing, maybe I'll record something. It's been a while since I've done any singing though, so I'll need to find a song that I actually like.

... Yeah. I'd say that's a pretty good indication that this Rikka was Japanese. The abilities alone would've made that likely, but if she could speak Japanese fine and... English not that fine too, at the very least she probably was born or lived in Japan when she was a little girl.

[ Oh. Damn. That's... she didn't even think about that. She just assumed that since he was using video that he could also see what she was doing. Or that there was magic and... wow. Now she felt like an ass. ]

It's a necklace. More like a pendant, a big red crystallized piece of... something attached to a chain. I was never really all that good at geology.

Keep it with you, no matter what. Things like that... have a way of showing you what they do when you're in trouble. [She pulls Raquel to her chest, holding him in her arms; she seems oddly comfortable with the prospect of holding an adorable blue plushie maybe four inches tall around actual people.] That, I've learned the hard way. And no rush, or pressure, or anything, I just think it'd be nice. My singing voice i-isn't that great, either. It's not "children run screaming" bad, but it's not good.

I know Rikka is relatively young in the memories I have. Right about... seventh or eighth grade? There are a lot clustered there, and I'm hoping I can see something that gives me an idea of how she grows up. If she grows up. With as much as those girls did, it w-wouldn't surprise me if they got themselves killed at a young age.

It's a... piece of something? Not a -- not a cut -- crystal? Or...

...Something...? [Slipping into nasal - "something" is hardly the most elegant way to ask about it.]

I kind of needed it. It's been a really stressful semester, so some of my finals were up int he air.

I think Anthony managed to get better at other things, too. He could use the weird gear he had pretty well after almost no training...

I'm afraid I've never seen a crystal like that before. Perhaps it means you'll turn out to be one of those magical girls I've heard about.

I haven't gained a mundane skill myself, but my cousin can read Japanese.

[A bit odd, that, since the memory she echoed of her cousin's past self looked quite European to her.]

[W-well, now Cecil seems able to raise magical crystal barriers out of nowhere.

He also has the rather vague and confusing memory of being somewhat acquainted with an absolute and divine presence.

Like, personally.

Considering that a) he has never seen himself as magical girl material, and b) he has never believed in the existence of a Supreme Being, both developments are a little awkward to say the least. He definitively envies Linda for receiving a perfectly sane skill.]

...Oh congratulations, Linda! I bet your middle-school teachers would be proud.

[As for Linda's crystal, that is not one of his, but he is most certainly not mentioning that]

Yeah. That whole car thing was pretty weird. I mean, I only heard about it since I'm in Vegas, but... that's not really supposed to be normal.

Though I guess magic would explain that. I mean, there's nothing else it could've been, right?

Trust me, I have no plans of leaving this laying around somewhere. [ She echoed it back, it's not like she could sell it or something. ]

As for the singing thing, well, I'll let you know once I have something that I think is decent enough to share with people.

[ Though then Winter's mentioning about her past self being young, and she had to admit, that was a scary thought that she hadn't thought about. With monsters and stuff, who knows how long her past self had lived for. Of course, everything else that Winter was saying was painting a pretty good picture of just who Rikka was. ]

She was only in the seventh or eighth grade? That's kinda... ridiculous. Like something out of one of those magical girl cartoons and- [ Quick pause, before she sighs and leans back a bit. ] - and I guess it's probably a lot scarier in the memories because it's actually real, isn't it?

... Weird gear? What do you mean by that?

No, it's definitely a cut crystal. It's just not any time of rock or something that I recognize, and I tried looking it up and basically got nothing.

Maybe. That would... maybe be cool. Depending on what costume and abilities I got with it, anyway. I was kinda hoping that someone else here would've already gotten one and would know exactly what it was though. Guess I can't be that lucky though.

... There seems to be a lot of us here who getting back the ability to read or speak Japanese, at least from what I'm hearing so far. I can't help but wonder why that is.
