When? Sunday afternoon
Where? Matt's aunt and uncle's place.
What? Graduation pool party!

[It's kind of a last minute thing. His aunt and uncle offer to host it on Sunday, knowing he's leaving on Monday morning. It's going to be exhausting as hell, but Matt's actually really interested in the idea of getting to spend time with his friends.

The downfall is that most of his friends are Numbered. So while his aunt and uncle are pretty used to the fact he's one of them, they still think it's weird when he sends out the invitations by scribbling them down in a notebook to everyone he can feasibly think of who he gets along with:

Family offered a party. Pool involved. 11-6, Sunday. Weather should be nice???
Good food.
No alcohol. Zero alcohol. Do not bring alcohol or illegal substances. I will push you in the pool.
You in?

[And that's that. He doesn't know if anyone else will show, but he's absolutely sure at least one kid will. He chuckles a little thinking of if only Ken showed up. It wouldn't be a bad time. More food for them.

On Sunday, the grill is in heavy use from early in the morning, and Matt's parents and aunt and uncle are hanging around on the deck, drinks in hand, discussing the future. Winter break in New York, and summer in Locke? He'll have to come home on weekends when the weather's nice.

(Matt doesn't quite know how to break it to his parents that he's pretty much setting up shop here.)

That, however, is not the point of things. The point of things is the fact his aunt and uncle have an in-ground pool and totally approve of random strangers using it for the day, so long as Matt knows them.

Which is clearly a fantastic setup. And there will be no atmospheric drunkenness and no trouble right.

[Ken, of course, arrived right on time. He knocked properly, not using the spare key because this is different from all other visits; it's a party; and he even brought a joint grad gift from both him and Papada. It's just an i**nes gift card, but Ken chipped in and it has a decent amount of money on it. He's wearing shorts. And they're swimtrunk shorts because even though he insisted he wasn't gonna swim, Papada warned him that if there's a party with a pool, he has to be prepared to be splashed at the very least.

He stays away from the pool for fear of assault but he approaches Matt with a cup of soda in hand and grins up at him.] Dad told me to tell you his congrats, again.

[Matt's glad to see Ken show. He likes seeing the kid around people. He needs it. Matt is well aware that there are some idiots he is very fond of invited (He is one of them) so he can hardly blame Ken for avoiding the water.]

It's too bad he couldn't come. I think they would've liked a few more adults around. [He glances back to his family.]

He had something to do. He said he would've liked to, but he'll come pick me up.

[He even came home a bit after going to work early to drop him off, too! Ken's satisfied.]

So, what's going to be happening for... seven hours?

[Basil met Matt the once, and was rather surprised when he gets an invite. One meeting seemed like not enough to be invited to something this special, though maybe Ken had some influence in that regard?

His mom was happy to hear he was making friends.

both his mom and Ken said he couldn't say no so here he is, complete with a small package.

He'll just be hoping Ken is actually here already and Basil will not be stuck with a ton of people older than himself he doesn't know.]

[Ken arrived right around eleven, and he's been there since and he plans to stay until the end. He'll make his way over to Basil, quietly until he's right behind him.]

[And Basil will jump and make some aborted sound halfway between an intake of air and a squeak before spinning around to face Ken]

Ken! You scared me--I did not hear you walk over.

[This is Matt's effort to make sure there are kids Ken's age around. It's a good effort right??? Ken is going to come no matter what, he knows the kid well enough for that. He will approach Basil, though. Look, he's not actually a supervillain or a bad guy.]

So. You're Ken's friend?

[It is a good effort! Matt and his army of children, trained through superhero/villain simulations.]

[ And that's all the explanation she really gives, and all she feels the need to give before deciding to show up. Marina still doesn't show up until a little past noon, and given how dumb all her conversations with Matt are she actually feels a little awkward about the whole thing, since she doesn't even know if anyone else is showing up - but uh. Hey why not?

Plus, food. So she mills around, waiting to decide if she wants to pull her clothes off and dive in the pool. ]

[All of Matt's conversations are dumb. She is not alone in this strangeness. He will approach her, though, near enough to the pool to be a jerk.]

[Emil shows up some time past noon. First order of business is of course, food. Second order of business is the pool - for a while he just hovers near it, clearly wanting to get in but afraid of showing everyone his horn and newly Echoed red eyes.

Eventually he decides to suck it up and just go for it. The guests are Numbered, Matt’s family knows and if that girl can go around with blue hair, he can show his own weirdness. He doesn’t have to tell why he looks like a demonic unicorn. He takes off his hat and contacts and jumps in before he can regret it.

Now it’s time to splash everyone.]

[Hey, demonic unicorn friend. Matt sinks down on the edge of the pool to sit talk. He is in the danger zone for this.]

You're still good to come tomorrow, right?

[Russel is at this party mostly because he was curious about what sort of person would try to convince him to robin hood/scam people with a golden piano to fund his own heroism, and also what kind of person would announce villainy publicly on the network.]

[but while he is here to figure out what is even Matt's deal, Emil's presence hasn't escaped his notice. Russel does, at some point, break away from socializing to go track him down, and finds him at the pool. Russel did not bring any swimwear, hadn't intended to swim--the new scar is not something he wants people to notice or ask about, and it is extremely noticeable without a shirt on. so. no swimming for him.]

[as soon as he sees Emil--more specifically, Emil's horn--his immediate reaction is a horrified yelp, grabbing the nearest towel, and tossing it over Emil's head]

What are you doing, don't just go around letting everyone see that!

[LETTING THEM SEE THAT YOU'RE MAZOKU he means. numbered, whatever. mazoku, that's not the kind of thing you want people to know.]

[To be honest, Abby wasn't really too sure why she was here. All heard was that it was going to be a pool party and there was free food. No one can resist free food and besides, she deserved a chance to relax now that school was over!

Of course, Abby was staring at the pool and wondering to go in or not.]

I promise I didn't fill it with sharks. [You stare at the pool and Matt will encourage you to go in, Abby. It is a very clean pool. He made sure of it :|b]

I haven't bred chlorine-resistant sharks yet.

[Half teasing, half covering his bases. He feels like shoving someone in the pool and it's going to be really awkward if they drown.]

There is blue haired girl in the pool and she splash. That's all she does, splashing at Abby and barely even acting like it was on purpose. ]

[It took a little bit of pleading to get Phillip's parents to let him go to a 'high school' party. Mostly there was a lot of convincing that it wasn't really a high school party, and they lived right next door anyway, and please couldn't he go pleeeeeeeease?

They did eventually relent, so here Phillip is, and though he started off a little overwhelmed at all the older people here, that doesn't stop him for long. He will talk to anyone and everyone.

[Matt would've vouched for it! Granted it's... Matt. But, still! It's even during the day, so it's totally safe and his parents can come too and hang out with the old people on the porch.]

[Sasha of course chooses to be a complete and utter goofball the entire time and also abuse her right to use the pool while she's there. After most of the shenanigans have come to an end and the party starts to wind down, though, she approaches Matt(wrapped in a towel and still dripping water) to say goodbye to him.]

I'm gonna miss you while you're on your trip, you know. You'd better have a lot of fun to tell me about when you get back.

[Sasha you are getting pool everywhere. Pool is supposed to stay inside the pool. He seriously hopes she's not getting a ride home or there is going to be a car that smells like chlorine for a month.

He grins at her with his hands stuffed in his pockets.]

It sucks you couldn't come. There's so much food in Vegas left uneaten...

[Of course Robyn came. Why wouldn't she? There's a freakin' pool!

Sure he was kind of her new arch enemy and everything, but that was only when they had they're masks on. This was completely different.

It didn't take long after arriving to strip down into her bathing suit and jump right in.

A little while later though, when she might catch sight of Matt and go to say hi.

...Except when she gets up to him she'll slip and grab his arm as she falls back into the pool.

BECAUSE Matt is going to feel a thud and arms around his stomach and probably a moment of zero gravity before physic applies to him again and he and the guy who definitely imitated a football tackle are definitely falling toward the pool.]
