It's been about a year since that trap at the mines. There aren't that many people left who remember that, feels like. [Which is unsettling and sad, something he'd rather not get too preoccupied by.] I know we had someone find that "Sage" and the rest of us trooped in to see him, but I can't remember why we had anyone there in the first place. I don't suppose there's anything down there now?

[Julien makes a sound like a chuckle.] Haha, sorry. I have to wonder if it wouldn't be worth fleshing out the FAQ, getting more detailed records out there. Some things probably aren't terribly relevant now, of course. Still.

I wasn't cut out for anything. Even my own life was always someone else's problem.

So I hope I don't lose my echoes, but if I do, then don't worry. I've made arrangements. In the meantime, we're always hiring numbered employees, regardless of their appearance or circumstances, and as long as I'm around, that's not changing.

Yeah, I've heard! It's good to know. How's business been, then?

It's been really good, actually. I expected to be operating at a loss for at least a year, but it looks like we'll be in the black in just a couple more months, if things keep going well.

People have been incredibly helpful.

Heh. Glad to hear that! I expect part of that's the novelty. People will pay for the strange. That's the appeal of freak shows and white tiger breeding, and the reason I have a contract these days.

Just a couple of part-timers to keep the Numbered employees from getting overwhelmed. We prioritize Numbered hires, though.

Some hate. Nothing as bad as what you'd think, though; we're staying afloat. Hecklers are asked to leave, and those who appreciate the novelty and want a good cup of coffee are asked to come again.
