[closed] action.
Who: Richard Locke (Karl Aurion), Colette Brunel, Romsca
When: May 24
Where: The high school and surrounding area.
What: A Vermedi sighting and then some.
[Another day, another bunch of tests to grade. Richard sighs softly as he exits the building and starts towards his car. It isn't that the grades will be bad, it's just that grading tests is a hassle. Some students possess penmanship that would make a chicken cry while others have tests that appear to be classified military files with how crossed out they are. Ah well, at least he didn't have any paperwork or the like to fill out today. It's a minor blessing that will let him relax upon getting home. Yes, a nice and calm eve--
...What the hell is that?! Any idea of going home gets stopped dead in its tracks upon spotting that... thing. The surprise is shortly replaced by suspicion, as evidenced by the narrowing of his eyes. Just what on earth is that?]

Right now, she's waiting for Lyall to come back from some errand while watching teachers disperse to their cars and back home. Or... she's watching this particular teacher making an attempt, anyway. She spots him halting in the middle of the partking lot for no particular reason. Huh. She gives the area a casual scan, then refocuses her eyes as she sees - something, something small - dash between the cars. She starts up onto her paws, but narrows her own eyes. What in blazes...? ]

Despite the protests of his stomach, Richard forces himself to focus and follow after that creature. It had dashed over under that car standing over there. Slowly and carefully, he makes his way towards the vehicle. Whatever it is, scaring it by quick movements might either scare it or provoke it. Avoiding either scenar-- ah, there it goes and bolts under more cars! Whatever this is, it's slippery. With a wry frown, he gives it chase.]

She makes her way to the first line of cars before seeing the small flash of whatever that small dark thing was again. She nearly trips over her own paws as a strange sensation passes over her - a ripple? A wave? Whatever it was, it made her nervous, but inquisitive... Was the man feeling the same things? She lengthens her stride as much as she can and lopes to the second row of cars. One more and she'll be in the same aisle of cars as the man and the small otherbeast. ]

She doesn't notice anything odd herself so she's blissfully unaware of the pursuit going on. ]

That last thought causes Richard to reach down and pull out the small gun strapped right above his boot. The weapon, though small, still served well as a means of protection.
Wait, it sounds as though it's coming back towards him. Perfect. What Richard fails to notice is that the creature had gotten away and the approaching footsteps weren't any more monstrous than his own.
Sadly, this realization doesn't come and he's readying himself for the attack. On the count of three, he'd try to get a jump on it.
One.
Two and...
Three! Springing around the corner with gun pointed directly ahead at whatever thing this is!]

Aaahh!! It's all right, you can take my stuff, just please don't shoot!
[ Oh gosh, a mugger, a real mugger with a gun and everything!! In the middle of the day?! ]
I won't tell anyone about this, I promise!!!
no subject
I have no intention of mugging you and I apologize for startling you.
[Scaring to death seems more accurate than starling really, but details details. The gun doesn't get put away yet because of that small noise from earlier. A quick glance over his shoulder reveals... a ferret? Richard blinks. What even...?]

You're not a mugger?
[ That seems to put her more at ease even if she's still a bit on edge. It's not every day someone rounds a corner with a gun to your face. ]
Should I put my hands up?
[ Because he's still pointing the gun around oh no ]
no subject
I'm not and that won't be necessary.
[Although, speaking of that creature, where had it gone? A quick glance around reveals nothing out of the ordinary. It appears to have gotten away. Damn.]

Wait - was that a flash of movement over there? She lurches forward, then reigns herself back and narrows her eyes. Let's all just calm down here. Chasing after every shadow only to catch unwitting bystanders won't help anyone. After a beat, she looks up at the taller human, maybe a little accusingly. Hello? Done with the pleasantries yet? The nerve of some tallbeasts! ]
no subject
Oh... all right. I'm sorry!
[ Though what she's apologizing for isn't exactly clear, seeing as she hadn't done anything. ]
I'm Colette.
[ She gives a little laugh, her shoulders dropping. ]
Um, if it's all right to ask, what were you doing...?
no subject
Might as well introduce himself, as well. Not being rude only feels proper after what just happened.]
I am Richard Locke, a chemistry teacher at the local high school.
[The last part got tacked on to further help Colette relax. People tend to relax when they know the person in front of them is a teacher and not a robber or whatever else, right?]
I had been chasing a [...Strange creature really wouldn't be an appropriate word in this case, would it?] suspicious person fleeing the school grounds.

What was that?!
[ The gun is more or less forgotten as she watches in the direction of Stella's pursuit. ]
And... where is it going?
no subject
A ferret and I'm not certain.
[If nothing else, letting Lyall's ferret run around only to get hit by a car is reason enough to chase it. Whether or not it is actually sentient? Who knows. If talking cats exist, the same can happen with ferrets.
Although, leaving Colette here alone might be a bad idea with that creature around. It may be long gone, it may not and risking a girl's safety simply would do. Two heads might be better than one when following a ferret, too.]
I know I've little right to ask this of you after what happened, but would you assist me in catching it? I'm fairly certain I know the owner.

night now, though, she's alert to the movements of anything under knee height. she's about three car rows away from where they originated, between two sedans, scanning between the tires for movement, her tail curling a bit at the end. if she could just... kill it........ ]

[ She turns to try to spot her, but can't really pinpoint her location, so she turns back to Karl. ]
Sure, Mr. Locke! I wouldn't mind at all. Let's see... I think it went this way.
[ She begins to follow after Stella, peeking around, looking for any movement. ]
About that suspicious person... do you think they're still around here?
no subject
I'm not certain. Whoever they were, their skill at throwing off pursuers is admirable.
[If irksome. Maybe letting people escape happens, but it doesn't get any less annoying when it happens.]

In the meantime, she's going to take a hesitant dart out into the middle of the two lines of cars, hopping from paw to paw, keeping her momentum up. Hell's teeth, it's like trying to find a snowflake in an ice machine--
Wait that was it. She sees a flash of black near the entrance to the lot. That was totally it. Throwing all caution to the wind, she hightails it towards it and also potential incoming traffic. ]
no subject
Ah! What was that?
She turns her head and stares toward the entrance to the lot, staring a little before pointing. ]
Is that it?
no subject
Rather than consider whether or not the potential ferret tragedy might or might not be avoidable, Richard sprints towards it with all the intent to grab it. Long legs plus years of chasing down bad guys are truly a godsend. Once within grabbing distance, the opportunity doesn't get wasted and Richard reaches for it.]
no subject
Now, if only she could communicate that. She sighs a loud ferret sigh. ]
