[action; closed to Vegas Precures]
Who: Magical girls + Russel (aka the dumb teenagers who roadtripped to Vegas)
When: Wednesday May 7th unless anyone objects
Where: The suite they've been given at the hotel
What: In light of Angeline's death, suddenly it doesn't seem safe here anymore...
Russel did not like to think about how much danger he was in at any given time. He didn't like to think about how being a Chosen One meant fighting things that could kill him, or how not being very careful about his identity meant it wasn't very hard for anyone especially dedicated to track him down. When it was just himself at risk, he could brush it aside and pretend the danger wasn't there or didn't bother him.
But when it was the rest of his team at risk...
After Angeline's death had hit the news--superhuman murdered in Vegas was a pretty heavy tagline--his parents had caught wind of the story and his mom had been calling nearly daily. He picked up every time, if only because he knew that if he didn't she'd assume the worst, but he hated it. She begged him to come home and he tried to explain that he was here to make sure the same thing wouldn't happen to anyone else and she didn't listen and kept begging and most recently he'd ended up accidentally making her cry and then hanging up on her because he didn't know how else to handle it.
This was a mess. He dragged his hands down his face and just sat there for a minute, trying to piece his thoughts together. The phone rang again; he glanced down at it. Rejected it with a message that he was busy and a mental apology to his poor worried mother.
He set it aside, the phone and the conversation and his own feelings, and went out to the common area to see if he could pull the team together for a moment.
"Hey, everyone--I think there's something we really need to talk about," he announced, loud enough that those holed up in their respective rooms would be able to hear him.

"You think."

Then, she laughed a bit nervously. "And considering it's me saying this..."

She glances to Russel. "It sounds like you already have something to say, so..." It's almost something you can feel, as Winter seems to take an emotional step back and let someone else take charge. She's not ready yet, and she knows it.

Given that the two most important people to her are there, it's a fact that now is both comforting and terrifying. She hasn't done too well at hiding this, either - Jasmine and Winter both may have found her hovering around them a bit more the past week, or just outright trying to cling to the latter when she thought she could manage it.
It's a fear she's prepared to face, as long as those people are there, but... it's there. So as the discussion begins, she's seated as close to Winter as possible.
She sighs.
"We do need to talk, yes. We... need to figure out what we're going to do."
If they could do anything.

After the others have spoken, he looks around the room and asks, "How safe do you think we are here? At this hotel, I mean?
"We all had to prove who we are to stay here, and that offer was pretty public. Anybody who wants to come for us--they know exactly where to go."

She looks slowly around at her gathered friends. She didn't know Angeline, well, but... she was one of theirs. It was a slap in the face to everything she stood for, and it shook her to the core.
"I agree that... this place is dangerous. But we might not have another option. We're s-staying here because it's inexpensive. Can... we go anywhere else?"

She hadn't been nearly as talkative since then, except when her parents called and she had to defend her decision to stay, and even then she'd been questioning it. Maybe this was just too much for a bunch of kids. They were all in high school still; maybe those past lives were just... totally unrealistic, fighting for the world as teenagers.
"...I know I can't really even afford a cheap motel. Just staying here is rough." Her head in her hands, she took a deep breath. "We're stuck here with a target painted on us."

"... did Angeline have powers?" she asked, sitting down next to Marina. She wanted to be close to her. "We can defend ourselves, sure, but... what are we going to do if that's not enough?"
no subject
She gives another sigh and tilts her head back against her seat. "Sis, your powers are always on. Most of us, however..."
She lets it hang. Most of them had to transform or do something to access some of their abilities or weapons. A man with a gun probably moves quicker than a teenager with a transformation device.

"More importantly, this might be dangerous, but listen. Don't ever forget that hiding and waiting does nothing. The enemy won't give up if they can't find as many of us as they wanted. They'll just keep going until they do. I don't know how many of you were around or awake when Thunder tainted the Locke City water supply. Too many Numbered thought they'd just get bottled water in bulk and wait for it all to blow over. Then Sherman and his gang grabbed Candy in the alley outside of her bakery. The reason we all mobilized to dent their PR when we did was because all the caution in the world still got one of us killed."

"So the first problem is what do we do to protect ourselves here, and the second problem is what do we do to make sure these people don't hurt anybody else ever again?"
He glances over the group. People he can trust to take care of themselves, but also people he cares about and doesn't want to see hurt, or heaven forbid dead like Angeline. His mom and their recent conversation springs to mind, but he shoves it aside to address the matter at hand instead.
"I think we should use a buddy system from now on. And maybe set up watch shifts overnight, in case someone tries to come in while we're sleeping."

"... I... probably shouldn't be allowed to pick who I'm partnered with," she said with a sigh. "My first instinct is to protect Lily and Marina the most, and... well, that makes me really biased, doesn't it? Heck, I feel like a heel just for saying it..."

Because, they had to be frank; they didn't really know. Not for certain. Her eyes shift over to her sister, and she tries to smile at least a little bit.
"Don't worry about it, Jasmine. I'd actually expect if we did something like that, we'd probably alternate, or... just make sure we grab someone when we head out, regardless of who it is. There's enough of us here to manage that." A beat, and she shifts in her seat a bit. "Besides, I'm not much better. It's... all I can do to not just want to hover around you and Winter all day, since all of that."
...which she had been doing to a degree anyhow, but that's beside the point.
