I have a few questions for the Network in general about echoes, if people would be so kind to answer them.
What do you think the echoes are?
What usually prompts your echoes?
What is the strangest incident that produced an echo? What is the most mundane? If you don't want to give specifics on an incident for either of these, some generalizations would still be appreciated.
Do you get echoes from the strange incidents that is usually associated with the alien things, Re: Wise Snake, the lights in Vegas, etc?
How many people remember other people on the Network in their echoes?
Thank you for anyone who answers.

By the way, I have something for you.

Though I must admit, you sound rather grim. Do you really think people are going to lose themselves that much?
no subject
Y'know, I don't really know. Can't keep it from happening if it goes down that road, but i'd kind of prefer if it didn't. It's up to him either way, can't stop him from making whatever he wants of the memories he gets.

They are certainly a new experience. Then again, we all change from experiences. Even in the short amount of time, I don't think I can say I was the exact same person before I got on the Network, even if it's only little changes so far.
Gaining new abilities, going through other experiences, it would change us, just like doing them now would. It's just more quick and compact, those things. Unless there's a tendency of people just losing all of themselves while gaining more of another, which would be a great deal more worrying, we shouldn't lose who we are now completely?
Has his memories been rough?

I get all of that- I do. That everything isn't gonna be changed just because of some new memories, some abilities that weren't there before. It'd be pretty impressive if they went ahead and changed every part of a person. Or maybe they'd have to be that monumental.
But what if they are. What if whatever it is changes things so completely that you can't go back to the person you were before all of it- can't even relate to who you were. Find out you were never even related to someone or that you weren't even the same person with the same name or face and i'm guessing a few more things are gonna change when it comes to the relationship you used to have with someone.

[Haha, well. About. That.]
That is more than possible, to remember different relations.
I recently got an echo that implies I may have been related to someone on the Network. I need to ask him a few questions, but there's a good chance we were blood relatives of some form. The thing is, I only met him when I joined the Network.
[Not to mention different face. This comment is gonna be horrible foreshadowing.]
But I think then the thing to keep in mind is do you still want to care about that person? Even if you weren't related in one life, they are still family to you here, right? Sure, things will change, and that can be scary, but isn't it also less scary if you have someone you care about with you?
no subject
Yeah, it's great to have someone who cares with me. I'm not gonna complain about that part, he's still my brother. I mean- I think he's enough of my brother to still count as one.
[ Another long pause. But no seriously what is this foreshadowing, GOSH. ] But that won't mean anything when he actually changes. Who's to know what he's gonna want when he's someone else. That's one I can't figure out.

So it does seem that we do have something of a choice in what affects us. Perhaps he will be overwhelmed by what he remembers, perhaps he will like it, perhaps a great many things. But at the very least, it's not an inevitability.
It can be hard to reach family that's pulling away, but it's not hopeless. If he cares now, at least you have a place to start with, and convince him even if he wants to change, he doesn't have to pick all of one life over the other.
[She is so taking cues from comic books and manga,
and maybe a little bit of what she tells herself about family, but gosh she's gonna try to be comforting!]sorry for the slow tag!
It's nice to hear that someone who's been around that long actually still believes they've got some level of control over who they become. You'd think that anyone who's been on the network for this long would've given in to all of it eventually. Or at least started to- it'd be easier.
Not that the easy way's always the right one.
It's just hard to imagine someone wanting to struggle against the kind of person they maybe should've been to start with. Maybe we aren't meant to be the people we are now. It's all just so... hypothetical, it's hard to tell what we're supposed to be when we don't even know what it is we're seeing every time we get another echo.
That's all right! o/
I guess the question is, is there ever a supposed to be? That would say when we're born, we are destined to be a certain way no matter what. Like there's someone writing out and everything is meant to happen a certain way.
I suppose some people do believe that.
Though I've never understood that personally. I know you can't just decide everything to do with what you like or don't like. If you hate the taste of mushrooms, you can't decide to like them. But I think you can decide on whether or not to be happy.
If you're not happy with this 'supposed to be' person, then I'm not sure that's who you're supposed to be.
