[Guess who's face pops up late afternoon on the 24rd? It's none other than Karl! He has a few things to say and a very important discovery to present.]

Many of you no doubt are aware of the pink lights presently in Las Vegas. Whatever this means or what may come about as a result, we must do our best to exert caution. Though we may have defended the city, the destruction of that creature had been the enemy's goal, something it will behoove all of us to remember.

[Some grumbling actually comes in the background, grumbling that sounds like one Melissa Lyre, one VERY UNHAPPY Melissa Lyre. Karl spares a somewhat apologetic glance over his shoulder before continuing.]

Words of wisdom aside, I've another reason for contacting the Network today. Following viewing the lights on TV, I received the ability necessary to test a hypothesis I posed some time ago.

[What great hypothesis might this be? A very important one!! Some very VERY melted plastic gets held up for all the world to see. What it may have been before it met its tragic fate, the world may never know. Actually, it was a plastic container but it definitely no longer serves that purpose.]

Plastic does not, in fact, protect against magic, fire magic in particular. Glass tables are also rather ineffective against it.

[RIP plastic container and another of his tables. Ah well, it was for the sake of science and hypothesis testing! And this hypothesis may have gotten tested right in front of the angry lady grumbling in the background. Really, why is she so upset? It's not as though she's...... afraid of fire. Oh... Whoops. Karl mentally slaps himself at that forgetfulness, a slap practically visible as he ends the connection]

[And make yourself comfortable should be a given at this point. Karl heads on over to the kitchen, checking his phone about the post he made. This is where Eugen's ingenious idea comes into play.

Lo and behold, a few minutes later he comes back out with what? Hot cocoa~ With a bit of cinnamon added on top. Hopefully the additional touch makes up for the lack of marshmallows.]

[Melissa glances down at the mug before looking up at Karl with arched eyebrows.]

Someone's been talking to Eugen. [...but yeah she's still taking it. she is never one to turn down hot chocolate.]

[The eyebrow reaction gets a soft chuckle. Why so surprised? Your childhood friend needs to make sure you weren't set on fire.]

Perhaps.

[Karl moves to sit down on the couch. Standing is for the youth and not the old.]

He mentioned making this for you often and said you may appreciate me doing so now.

[Well fine, she'll come and sit next to him. And drink her hot chocolate. It's pretty good.]

He only made it for me because I bought the mix, specifically so it'd be there when I went over to his house. [there might be a slight smirk there. Eugen is still fucking cheap.]

I see. It'd still been kind on his part to make it for you.

[Karl takes a sip of the cup he'd made for himself.]

However, hot chocolate made from a mix has little right to be called hot chocolate.

[Sorry, but it's true. You make that stuff from scratch. Spoiled rich kid knows best with this stuff and actually did make their current hot cocoa via melting some decent quality chocolate.]

[Melissa chuckles, sipping her cup as well. ...This is better than a mix.]

I'm not sure Eugen could even manage cocoa from scratch. [she loves him but no. it's a wonder he doesn't starve.]

[It'd taste better with a bit of whipped cream. Still not bad after not having made this in ages.]

He isn't particularly skilled in cooking and the like?

[Not that Karl is either, but he knows enough to at least make cocoa.]

Not really. [not that she can talk.] Mostly I think he doesn't care enough.

A shame. No store bought food can compare with home cooked.

[Coming from a guy who had mostly home cooked growing up and now eats cup ramen more than should be legally allowed.]

True. Though it helps if you actually know how. [melissa mostly survives on takeout and what few recipes she knows.]

[Sorry but he has no time to eat like a human being!!]

Knowing how while lacking the drive to actually cook doesn't do one much good, either.

[Not wanting to cook while knowing how leads to not cooking.]

[She chuckles.] So many things that can go wrong. Is it any wonder that people live on takeout?

None whatsoever.

[A small sense of nostalgia rises up thanks to this homecooking chat. Maybe he misses some of his mother's meals and maybe even Anna's failure of an attempt at cooking prime rib (the fact the house didn't go up in flames that time had been a miracle).]

Though I may test my own cooking drive one of these days.

Oh? [She assumes he knows how, but...] If you need any help with testing, I'm always available~

I may take you up on the offer one day. Though be warned well over a decade has passed since I've really cooked anything.

[He appreciates the test subject but only if they know that burned, inedible food IS very possible.]
