Who: Hajime and Phillip
When: Thursday, March 13th
Where: LASER TAG PLACE
What: Two apocalypse monsters bonding. Also laser tag.

Phillip had felt a lot better after Hajime had talked to him after the whole snake thing, and he was even nice enough to check up on him a few days after. And now they were going to do laser tag! In Phillip's mind, Hajime was awesome. He isn't aware that Hajime can sense some sort of 'sameness' in their abilities, and he still doesn't really get the whole spirit energy thing but... eh. Laser tag.

"Have you ever played this before?" Phillip asks as they head into building- they were lucky it was open and not crushed, "I've only played a couple times, at birthday parties and stuff." He's usually too nice and not good enough at aiming to do well.

Hajime was just surprised that something like this was open after the business district got crashed, but hey, there are a lot of restless kids who need something fun to distract themselves with, and the laser tag place was far enough away from the business district that there wasn't any real need for it to stay closed. "Not since I was in high school...but I remember the basics." While Phillip was too nice to do well, Hajime was competitive enough to be just the opposite.

Phillip usually gets in trouble because he actively apologizes to people while playing. Maybe Hajime can get him to... not. He considers asking Hajime how long ago high school was, but his mom gets mad at him for those kinds of questions so instead he opts for, "Were you good?"

Hajime grinned. "No one wanted to play with me after a while. I was too good." He frowned slightly. "They kicked me out once, but I think that was probably because I punched some guy who was giving my sister a hard time, not because I was too good at the game."

Phillip opens his mouth to respond, and then closing it as he thinks. Punching people is bad, but... Hajime was defending his sister! Hm. He doesn't know who was right here. Luckily, he's spared answering because they get to the cashier to get settled and into the next game.

Hajime pays for the game and gets the equipment, and he hands a vest and gun to Phillip. "You know the drill, right? Shoot the other teams before they can shoot us."

Phillip will thank him, pulling the vest over his head. It's kind of heavy. "Yeah, I remember!" That doesn't mean he's going to be terribly successful at it, though.

At least Hajime will have enough of a killer competitive instinct for the both of them...and would have even without combat monster instincts wanting to bubble up at odd times. He's checking all of his equipment, and it seems to work to his satisfaction. "I think we've got this." Or at least he had this. But he wanted Phillip to feel included.

Good move, Hajime. Phillip likes to be included! "Yeah! It'll be fun!" Luckily, it is the 'fun' part he cares about more. His non-competitiveness also means that he doesn't usually care about winning. But he'll try! Sort of!

"Just stick close, I'll show you how it's really done." Hajime checked and double-checked his gun as they walked into the maze and waited for the signal to get started.

Phillip grins and nods. "Ok!" He'll lift up his laser gun, ready to go. The signal goes off a few minutes later, and the boy will at least... try and shoot at the other people.

Hajime, on the other hand, is moving through that maze like some kind of laser tag war machine. He is taking no prisoners and showing no mercy even though there are a lot of other little kids running around with adults in tow here.

Ok, admittedly Phillip gets really distracted starting off with how totally intense Hajime is. it's kind of amazing! Once he recovers, he'll try and copy Hajime, but... well. He's trying.

Hajime's at least making sure to cover Phillip. Hello, eight year old trying for a lucky shot on Phillip, Hajime's putting a stop to that with a little cover fire of his own. Beep, beep, someone's got to go back to the respawn point.

Wow, Hajime's great! Phillip is very impressed. Not that that's terribly hard. A lot of things impress him, especially when Hajime's making this look so easy. The boy manages to dodge a couple of shots (the only thing here he's actually good at doing), hiring a bunch off and only hitting once or twice.

"That's it! Keep it up!" Hajime has no idea just how bad Phillip's aim is, but the kid is trying, and Hajime has enough crazy man competitive spirit for at least two people.

Phillip beams at the (sort of) praise, concentrating very, very hard on doing the best he could. It's still pretty dismal, but he keeps it up until he does eventually get hit.

Hajime at least avenges Phillip's hit by immediately taking out the guy who shot him...and everyone in that guy's immediate area, just to be sure.

Crazy bugman combat reflexes do have their uses...

Apparently! Phillip will run back to the respawn area really quickly so they can resume their rampage... or at least he can continue to be really impressed by Hajime. Who is awesome.

Hajime's got enough rampaging going for the both of them; thanks to his combat bug instincts, he has yet to be hit by anything. Some of the other players are questioning whether or not his vest is even working right.

Well it's working out for them as a team fairly well-- Phillip mostly tries to duck and hide and then shoot things when he can, but he's enjoying it. And eventually, the lights will flash to signal there's only so much time left in the game.

Together, they are going to win this bout of laser tag. Hajime will make sure of that. Hopefully the kid's having a good time too, because he's rather enjoying this.

Yeah, when they get out and see the scores, they pretty much creamed everyone else. But Phillip's super happy even before the scores go up. "That was fun!" he says, grinning at Hajime.

"Yeah, that was!" Winning felt pretty great, didn't it? Besides, it was fun. "I haven't done anything like that in a long time."

"Really? But you're so good!" He would have thought you practiced all the time!

"It's kind of like riding a bicycle. You never forget how, you know?" At least, that's what Hajime's hoping just happened there.
