Who: Toushirou, anyone who drops by to visit him, hospital employees/volunteers
Where: Locke City University Hospital
When: March 10th, 11th
What: So Toushirou winds up hospitalized for a couple days because of Wise Snake. Friends and otherwise show up to check on him.

He sure as hell would've like to have found his way to one of the Network healers than wind up here, but that hadn't worked out for him. At least he'd managed to hand his sword off to Luke before any normals caught him with it. Maybe it doesn't matter. Maybe their cover has been blown all to hell. But if it hasn't, he'd take advantage of whatever is left.

His first night had been spent having various tests done to determine the extent of his injuries. A couple things broken, a few more things bruised, and a concussion. Fun. But it sure beats being dead like he should have been. Any questions as to what had happened to cause his injuries had been met with an 'I don't remember', which seems like a perfectly good coverup, considering he'd been knocked unconscious for a time. It isn't like he can tell the medical staff he'd gotten hit by the most massive snake of them all. His survival would raise questions that way.

The rest of his time is spent on varying degrees of painkillers, with Granny at his side at any time when she doesn't have enough reason to be elsewhere. Anytime he'd tried to tell her the same thing he'd told the doctors, she'd given him an admonishing look. It had become clear that she wouldn't believe him, so he'd promised to tell her the truth once they're home. She'd at least texted his phone contacts about his situation, though. Using the Network at the hospital doesn't seem like the best idea.

News reports are all over the television today, and that's what he winds up watching. If any of the staff think that's weird for a kid his age, they don't comment on it. He has to know what's going on. Things are public now.

In one day, the whole game has changed.

"It is quite amazing how not being hit by stone snakes helps one's health," she said with a nod, sitting down by his bed. "You're pretty amazing."

He just kind of blinked at the compliment. He wasn't terribly used to those.

"... Okay." Best at accepting them, clearly. No inflection at all in his voice. "So what're you in for?"

"Nothing really." Danielle shrugged. "Just young girl. In a danger site, looking banged up and no guardian nearby, off to the hospital. Had an allergic reaction to something, so they're keeping me until they can be sure it's something normal and not something toxic that got released."

"I'm Danielle, by the way." She held out her hand to him.

It took until now to notice that mark on her face. The shape of that looked too deliberate to be an allergic reaction. "Is that what's supposed to be wrong with your face?"

Nice phrasing there, kid.

Well, he still had one functional arm. A handshake, he could do. "Toushirou."

"Pretty sure that's what it is. I've had this kind of break out before, it's pretty normal," Danielle said easily. She didn't really mind the terseness. It's been asked far more awkwardly and rudely in the past.

"It's nice to officially meet you. Third time's the charm, huh?"

Here, have an 'I think that is bullshit but I am too tired to care' look. What does it really matter, anyway?

Blink. "Third time?" Nope, still didn't remember that first meeting.

Hey, if he's not gonna say anything, she's not gonna say anything. She said her piece, and she can stick to it if she wanted, that was the important part.

"Oh, wow. Now I'm hurt," she said with a dramatic sigh. Then she smiled sheepishly. "Not that I blame you. Random kid in a park probably doesn't stick out to you. Just one of the sad things of being homeschooled and not getting out much."

Yeah, the dramatic sighing got an eyeroll. Not something he should be doing when he has a headache, probably, but whatever.

"... Oh." No awkwardness in that pause, just a moment of thought trying to place her. That girl who'd thought his soccer tricks were cool a few months back.

"Yeah," Danielle said and looked a bit embarrassed. "I just kind of remember trips like those. Took me a minute to remember you when we were in the thick of it though."

He shrugged. Also probably not a good idea. Old habits died hard. "Makes sense. So how long?"

No elaboration on the question. He figured what he was asking was obvious enough.

"First time was a little after new years," Danielle said. She could give the exact date, but she tried not to think about those days too hard in general. "Only finally wrote it down a little under two weeks ago. Kind of went in trial by fire."

"Guess you did."

He sort of had, too, if on a smaller scale. Plus it was something he'd gone into by choice. And that . . . was nearly a year ago. Come to think of it, he'd had his first in March of last year.

He found himself idly wondering if somebody would start talking about 'echoversaries' or something. Okay, that had to be because of the concussion.

"Yeah," Danielle said. And it was still overwhelming in a way. She wondered if she fully comprehended everything that had happened. About the only thing she was sure of was she really could have died, but to be fair, that had more to do with her accepting she could die at any time.

The fact she could have died like that was new and so...

"It was pretty terrifying," she said, voice soft. "But you saved a lot of people."
