Eventually he speaks again, though his phone is now face down on the floor. ]

[ A few seconds longer and a rather loud bark later: ] What I meant to say is that if someone could explain this current state of affairs to me, as well, I would be in your debt. I've never seen anything like this before.

Despite my confusion over this network and suddenly being able to connect in this kind of way, please allow me to help you, as well! I will do my best to serve you all in any way that I can. After all, as a police officer, it is my duty to assist the people of Locke City!

[ ivan stares at his phone for the longest time. keith has a way with words, ivan notices, that seems to attack his weak points with relative ease, and that's a terrible thing. it makes him unwilling to keep arguing, because keith has won this with his sincerity. there's little to no point in pressing it. ]

[ he knows, of course, since keith made sure he did. he's known ever since they met, that fateful day when keith stood in front of him and protected him from harm, that this is how things will always be. with keith throwing himself in harm's way, while ivan could do nothing but trust him, and wait for him.

[ It's not that Keith wants Ivan to feel guilty, because he doesn't. But he simply has a bad habit of being horribly honest, honest to a fault some might say. A noble intention. I think it will be prudent to prepare a way out, all things considered. You can't protect anyone if you are in constant danger yourself.

Oh, yes, I had not thought of that. That is a wise idea. I would not wish to have anyone worry for me, so I will do my best to think of a backup plan.

There's always someone who will worry for you. Your family and friends, for instance. You don't need to be so hard on yourself. Finding yourself in such a bizarre situation is a lot to take in all at once.

The good thing is that for the most part, this network is pretty secure. But, hey, you can never quite be too paranoid.

Well, you get used to strange things happening and when it turns out there are conspiracies behind things it doesn't surprise you. But, at least for me, it still feels like I have no idea what I'm doing, a lot of the time.
