[There's that rippling image of a white horse again. From what more can be seen of her than her head, she's lying (upright) along her trough, again looking sideways into the water. There are a few beats of nothing - then she turns her head slightly closer, and her mouth opens.]

[well he was /going/ to write in his notebook to try and talk with her ~~after his whole 'that is a horse wait no that is a pony why is it talking' moment~~ but learning this kind of jolts a little more.

blame him being a teacher for over sixty years.

eventually he manages a connection by - and he'll hate himself later - writing on a television screen with a marker. so have an old man staring at you, Cinderella, who's managed to get over most of his confusion and now mostly looks /intent/]

Isn't this what people who can talk to each other do? Make small talk, get to know each other, take an interest in one another's days...

They don't ask random people how their day was out of the blue. [Though he's done it once or twice, and regretted it almost immediately.]

I am not asking "random people"; I am asking our network! Ever since this's begun, we've all been talking as if we're part of some big, fantastic secret together - nay? - and I think that as a member of the "Numbers Club" now I do have every right to ask how everyone's day has been!

[Which downplays the simple fact that she's quite excited to finally be talking to people, but this isn't a lie, either.]

It's not fantastic in any way, and it's probably the only thing we do all have in common. Besides, no one knows everyone who's on the network. It gets a little weird when people you've never talked to start asking you how your day has been.

Better than a week or two ago. [ A contemplative pause. ] How about yours?

We had a Nineties Friday at work today. Which I guess if you're a horse might be a little before your time, but me and the coworkers had fun and some of the customers seemed to enjoy it. All sorts of music from when we were kids, it was great.
