at least i got one new clue in the life and times of the yakuza ninja prince

He believed he did it to protect his people.

[he shrugged, not understanding how leaving behind his family would protect all of them. maybe he was not such a heartless person that he had thought, not seeing how a man can abandon family for something more.]

But how can you protect your people if you could not protect your family?

[It was the simple, true answer, but she figured there was more to it, or at least a reasoning this man Son had in might before flipping off the deep end.

Grabbing the bottle, she held it out to him again, intending to at least watch him while he drank it. Family was a matter she was will to let him indulge for. At least a little bit, anyway.]

he looked at the bottle, feeling like he was ten and he was drowning and had no idea which part was him and which one wasn't... and then he took the bottle and took a small sip.]

[Althought hearing him refuse the drink was weird. Yet it was a thought she pushed away, watching him and how much it was effecting him. What a sad life to have to remember.

The subject seemed to be effecting her too, giving her flashes of memories of her own. just perfect, she thought, giving a quick twitch of her lips.]

[just trying to explain that while it's okay to be slightly drunk, his full drunk self was not a good person and he did not want to hurt someone because of it.

[One of her arms came around his shoulders, her hand rubbing at his arm. She was here to be with him. Getting a depressing echo wasn't going to suddenly make her change her mind.

Her own sudden depressing echo wasn't going to do that either. Who knew simply talking about betrayal was going to be a pandora's box.]

Even if these memories try to make us into those people, being who we currently are can't be erased. Besides, if he shows up here, you can get the drop on him and just punch him for the everything.

[She gave a half smile, leaning her head down on his.]

I probably will. How dare that fucker walk away from family.

[he half-growled the words, wiggling a little closer, his free hand wrapping around her waist. he was grateful she was here; he had always been a bit of a touchy feely kind of child, and as an adult he still felt the best when he could hold and be held. it was a little harder to do so when he had a sake bottle in hand, but he didn't feel like moving enough to put it down.]

[She woke in a thoughtful tone while the fresh echo filtered into her minds eye. Her chest heaved once, curling more into his hold, wearing a blank look on her face.]

She was killed by the program she considered and loved like a father. She was also killed by the man who could have been a brother to her, but somehow she killed him too to please the father. All of these are at different times.

She was hurt by her 'papas' betrayal, but she never got to act on it.

[he shifted a little, turning his head so he could place a soft kiss against her neck, giving her a light squeeze to let her know that he will listen to her as well.]

If he shows up here, I can hold him down so he won't run away from you.

[There was a grin on her face from the kiss. It was sort of odd to have someone to share in this with. It wasn't as if she thought that she'd just go through it alone, but this was definitely different from all of her thoughts.]

For now I think figuring out if I should punch my brother or not will suffice.

He sounds like an asshole to Escape. Mebbe he deserves a punch for that.

[in his opinion everyone that was mean in a past life deserved a punch. it would help remind them that this life things will be different or he might get mad at them. or just pout at them. he didn't know but he did know that it was far better to share and try something new than fall into the same place as before.]

[She was of the same opinion. Doing things the same not only didn't make sense, but anything Escape wanted, Calista had. To move backwards would be pointless to them both.]

He was definitely an asshole. Cain sort of still is.

Then let's punch him for being an asshole in both lives.

[they didn't have to move backwards, but they could build up from what they knew about their past selves, making their lives better than before. although it would still be nice to give back to those that hurt them in past.]
