What: going out shopping for christmas presents leads to an encounter with the blood keys. oops.

Soren still wasn't too sure why he'd agreed to take Annika shopping for a Christmas present for their mom, but it was too late now. He knew their mom wouldn't even probably care that much, or would care but it wouldn't actually change anything, but his sister was so intent on giving her something that he gave up on trying to convince her otherwise and just decided to go. Things were still a little tense between them and he figured maybe it would help clear the air a little if he went along, and even if it didn't it probably couldn't make things worse.

"Where do you wanna try first? I dunno what you even want to get her."

Annika was smiling for the first time in a while. Holding her brothers hand as they crossed the street.

"Everywhere! We have to scour the planet!" She said loudly pointing ahead with her free hand. Her breath fogged in the chilly air, moisture sticking to her scarf. "We'll know when we've found the right gift."

Soren rolled his eyes at her enthusiasm, she was so ridiculous sometimes he didn't even know what to do about it, but he went along with it anyway.

"I don't think we're gonna scour the planet, but we can at least scour the city."

She skipped landing on the other curb with her leg thrown up behind her like some kind of quasi-ballerina. She pretends not to hear Soren's naysaying.

"I was thinking there must be all kinds of treasure in the pyramids right? What if we got something like that?"

"There aren't even any pyramids around here." As it is he glances around to see if there's any stores that look good, before just kinda picking a random direction to walk in.

She sighs shaking her head. "Of course not! It's all at the museum."

She shakes her head. "Come on Soren use your head."

"You know, they don't really let you buy that stuff. And I'm not helping you steal it either." A normal person might sound exasperated, but he's of course used enough to this kind of thing that it doesn't even faze him.

She frowns. Damn, it would be a lot easier to steal something like that with Soren's help.

"You're no fun... Hmm, maybe I can get a good fake somewhere."

He rolls his eyes again. "If you really want we could go to the museum gift shop or something. I dunno if Mom would like something like that though."

"What would you get her?" She asks looking in the store windows. She doesn't really want his advice or anything she's just curious.

He shrugs. "Jewelry maybe? Or a scarf or something? I didn't really think about it."

She scowls squeezing his gloved hand through her own.

"Those are the worst gift ideas I've ever heard."

[mood2wiingiing]

He laughs a little. "Well it's still probably better than some fake Egyptian relic or something! At least we know she could use it."

"No way! If she opened a loving wrapped package and saw the pharoahs treasure inside she'd feel like wow they went to the ends of the earth to get me this one of a kind gift. A scarf says 'I saw this at Target.'"

She makes a face sticking out her tongue in disgust.

"Hey there's nothing wrong with doing shopping at Target, okay." That's nice and easy after all...

"There's probably somewhere nicer we could find something like that though is what I meant."

She stops, tuning him out as she stares up at a store sign. The windows are filled with crystals a dainty bell hanging above the door. Some kind of new age occult shop it seems.

"Oh Soren, let's go in here."

Soren wasn't really paying too much attention to most of the stores, so he glances over when she says that. He really isn't sure why she thinks this one would be a good choice but whatever, even if he asked he'd just get some kind of weird answer.

"You really think this one's gonna have something for her?" But even as he says that he's going inside.

She smiles wide. "It's definitely better than any of these other generique stores!"

He shakes his head, peering around the store. "If you're sure. I still say it's a weird choice."

Well then she's just going to ignore you. And look around the shop.

"Where do you think they keep the shrunken heads?"

[mood2wiingiing]

Annika please. He groans at that question but honestly isn't that surprised.

"I don't think they sell those here."

"What? What kind of occult store doesn't even sell shrunken heads?"

[mood2wiingiing]

"The kind that actually exists in real life and not just in your imagination!"

[fridayisyellow]

"How do you know?"

[mood2wiingiing]

"I don't know, I just think it's probably illegal to sell those in this country! Unless they're fake heads, I guess."

Soren you were so annoying! God, everything her brother did pissed her off lately.

"Don't even act like you know what you're talking about."

She's stomping off to look at the books now.

Like she isn't being annoying herself. He just rolls his eyes though because he's pretty used to her.

"If you care so much then go ask the shopkeeper."

Nope. She can't hear you, she's looking at books.

Then he'll just occupy himself wandering around looking at whatever weird new-agey stuff looks interesting until she gets bored.

She browses, picking up one book after another, reading the summaries on the back and making a face before putting them back on the shelf.

"Hey, Soren, look at this."

The back is, ironically enough, on awakening past lives.

He wasn't really too interested in whatever he was looking at, so when she says that he goes and takes it from her, raising an eyebrow as he starts to flip through it.

"It's probably just BS."

"How do you know? It could help us out!"

[mood2wiingiing]

He shrugs, still flipping through it.

"If you wanna get it, it's okay, I just wouldn't count on it helping."

She looks at it again. Then shrugs and puts it back.

"Mom likes this kind of stuff right?"
