[A new voice pops up over the network, older than the usual fair, very obviously female. Also very obviously exasperated.]

The logical side of my brain keeps telling me that this is some kind of terrible practical joke. Weird flashes, numbers suddenly assaulting my brain, an entire catalog of information that reads more like a science fiction novel than real life.

If I hadn't already tried the 'paper trick', then I would think this whole thing was crazy. Honestly, I'm still not convinced, especially not after today. Everything is too coincidental, fits a bit too neatly together to not be planned.

[She sighs.]

I should probably stop being so vague. Suddenly, without so much as a warning, I'm part of a secret organization, assaulted with memories that I can already assume aren't mine, and what's more is that one of them involves a classmate of mine. One that I'm now in a group with. Along with one of my roommates--but she has nothing to do with this, I'm just generally frustrated that I can't get away from her at home or at school.

So, to recap: Bizarre memories, conspiracy theories, and no way to get away from the person I can only assume triggered this in the first place.

This whole thing is unnerving, and honestly I don't have time for it. I start applying for graduate school in less than a month, the last thing I need to do is play with conspiracy theorists.

[Someone's had a very, very bad day.]

[Not thirty seconds later, this appears on the network.]

[Elly will be wandering around campus, in a bit of a fog. These last few days have hit her hard--school things obviously, but more importantly the fact that she could not shake of the weird feeling that she got when she met Daniel in the woods. Or the idea that she, or other her, or past her, might have shot someone. If anyone has a class with her, she'll be a ghost of her usual vocal self, lost in thought.

At times, she'll also be seen either sitting at a bench, in the cafeteria, the library; really anywhere she can have a moment of peace. One earbud in her ear, she'll appear to be studying. However, the videos coming through her computer screen aren't medical videos; it's archival footage from the network. Her screen is relatively obscured, and she does appear to be keeping at least a somewhat close eye on her surroundings, but she's also taking quite extensive notes.]

[Elly seats herself, looking around the office. It was smaller than she expected--a bit smaller than the ones in the school of medicine building--but exactly what she would have figured his office might have looked like. In a way, it amused her, but that wasn't really why she was here, was it?]

How long has all of this been going on? How long have people been aware? I haven't been able to find any kind of static time frame.

[Well, he always tried to make it seem homey. The clutter, and the numerous shelves of books, probably contributed to the overall lack of space.]

Well, from what I could gather, the network came into being sometime earlier this year, before the summer. No sooner than that. I don't believe anyone was aware of anything suspicious until that happened, and whatever prompted it is completely unknown to me. It seems people don't become aware of the network until some incident causes a first pulse in them.

I personally have only been aware since August, right after that whole incident... if you recall.

[She nods. It took her a moment before she remembered what he was referring to; thankfully not too long that she would think to ask about it.]

I see. So that's when people get their number, when they "remember" something.

You said the police are involved, too. Is that it? I know the reporting on Locke City has been getting more... unflattering lately.

Well, something like that, yes. It happens whenever someone receives their first 'pulse,' which could be any number of things-- sometimes something drastic like a physical characteristic, sometimes it's an actual vivid memory of something that's never occurred, sometimes it's something absolutely petty, like a change in handwriting.

[He makes a bit of a face at this. It seems he's speaking from experience.]

As far as I can tell, the police are absolutely involved, and have been from the start. While I don't immediately believe every negative action taken by the police, as some of them are innocent bystanders to the whole mess, and a select few are even on our side, they've been targeting people like us. That is, anyone who reacts to any of these unusual circumstances in any way deemed suspicious.

Many believe they're working with Thunder Corp., who, for the time being, is the most clear picture we have of an 'enemy.'

[She also makes a face.]

I keep seeing them mentioned, but what are the signs that they are? I still think this feel a bit too large scale to be just one organization pulling the strings.

Well, for starters, they were the ones involved with contaminating the water supply not very long ago. The contamination only seemed to affect us with numbers... which means it was likely a tactic to try and have us exposed.

[Francis rubs his forehead slightly, as though his head were hurting just thinking about all of the strange things that have been happening since the summer.]

On top of which, we now have that 'terrorism' scare, which was a Thunder Corp. building being blown up. Hardly a coincidence, I'm sure. They then proceeded to publicly accuse those who had issues with their contaminating the water- that is, us- of being 'ecoterrorists' and now have the entire city on the lookout for us.

They might not be the only party involved... Hell, my theory is they're only one facet to a much larger picture. But right now they're the ones we know for sure are behind a lot of this mess.
