[Closed] Need a light?
Who: Richard Locke, Naomi Kaufman
When: 10/19 (backdated)
Where: The library
What: The passing of a lighter from one science person to another.
[It's been a while since Richard had been to the library, but little seems to have changed. The sections were in the same locations, the uncomfortable chairs were the same ones as before and the never-changing sent of books still hung in the air.
No one paid him or the little clay thermos in his hand any mind when he entered. Good. The last thing he needed was someone taking it and looking inside to see a lighter that seems to be moving (if barely). Finding the science area had been, needless to say, easy. Easier than expected, honestly, and it left him with some time to kill before the agreed upon time arrived.
So now he's standing in the aisle and reading a book detailing something about reduction and oxidation. It's not a particularly new or thrilling publication, but just a book he's been meaning to buy for a while and can now determine if it's worth purchasing. It's a bit tricky reading with a thermos in hand. Nothing impossible, just tricky.]

When she spies what looks like the right container, however, it's hard to believe who's holding it. She recognizes that face; it takes her a moment to place it, but soon enough she places him as the man she'd met at the bookstore a few weeks ago.
...Well.
That actually gives her an idea, so she assumes a friendly demeanor and strolls on over.]
You've got the cake?

An unexpected, if not especially unpleasant surprise comes when he sees who this person is. The face takes a moment to place, but a small, amused smile plays on his lips once it does. Heh. Small world. Or maybe small network.]
Right here. It's still slightly warm.
[Slightly warm meaning still clinging to life. Barely. Not enough to make it a threat, however.]

[Ellen being a college friend who lives in another state, but hey! Nobody's got to know.
She reaches a hand out to take the thermos, bracing herself just in case things start to get weird from here what with the living lighter inside.]

She'll no doubt enjoy it. Though I hadn't expected her to send you to pick up the cake in her stead.
[Which is Richard's way of saying he hadn't expected for her to be the one he was going to meet.]

She couldn't make it, I'm afraid. You understand how things crop up.
[i.e., yup. Life works in strange ways sometimes, doesn't it?]
no subject
Understandable. The most unexpected this pop up within a moment's notice.
[You know, like running into someone in a bookstore and then later finding out they're in the same 'book club' as you. Unexpected but nice.]

[Naomi shifts the thermos slightly and glances back at the entrance. It'd be suspicious to stick around when she's supposed to be making a delivery...]
I'll be off now. Thanks for coming today.

Not at all. I hope she finds the cake especially flavorful.

[And with that, she starts to head off.]

[Richard flips back open the book he'd been reading.]
You take care.

[Aaaand she's off.]
