[Closed] Need a light?

Who: Richard Locke, Naomi Kaufman
When: 10/19 (backdated)
Where: The library
What: The passing of a lighter from one science person to another.

[It's been a while since Richard had been to the library, but little seems to have changed. The sections were in the same locations, the uncomfortable chairs were the same ones as before and the never-changing sent of books still hung in the air.

No one paid him or the little clay thermos in his hand any mind when he entered. Good. The last thing he needed was someone taking it and looking inside to see a lighter that seems to be moving (if barely). Finding the science area had been, needless to say, easy. Easier than expected, honestly, and it left him with some time to kill before the agreed upon time arrived.

So now he's standing in the aisle and reading a book detailing something about reduction and oxidation. It's not a particularly new or thrilling publication, but just a book he's been meaning to buy for a while and can now determine if it's worth purchasing. It's a bit tricky reading with a thermos in hand. Nothing impossible, just tricky.]

[Naomi arrives a little before the specified time, lingering here and there to examine a few books and keep up appearances before making for the meeting location. She knows she's looking for somebody with a ceramic container, and that trading it out in public has its disadvantages as well as its advantages: the library was a good place to meet somebody she didn't know, but a handoff in public can't be too obvious. She's concentrating on the latter point right now.

When she spies what looks like the right container, however, it's hard to believe who's holding it. She recognizes that face; it takes her a moment to place it, but soon enough she places him as the man she'd met at the bookstore a few weeks ago.

...Well.

That actually gives her an idea, so she assumes a friendly demeanor and strolls on over.]

You've got the cake?

Great. I'll give it to Ellen soon.

[Ellen being a college friend who lives in another state, but hey! Nobody's got to know.

She reaches a hand out to take the thermos, bracing herself just in case things start to get weird from here what with the living lighter inside.]

[Naomi takes the thermos carefully. Best not to take too many chances, especially in a public space!]

She couldn't make it, I'm afraid. You understand how things crop up.

[i.e., yup. Life works in strange ways sometimes, doesn't it?]

I'll see how she's doing once I've handed over the cake.

[Naomi shifts the thermos slightly and glances back at the entrance. It'd be suspicious to stick around when she's supposed to be making a delivery...]

I'll be off now. Thanks for coming today.

You'll probably hear from her if she likes it. You know her.

[And with that, she starts to head off.]

You too. Enjoy the book.

[Aaaand she's off.]
