hey there little red riding hood
Who: Nick (
detectivetroll) and Monroe (
grimmopedia)
Where: Monroe's house
When: November 6th, evening
What: Monroe's been avoiding Nick since they talked about his absolutely not at all stupid plan, and Nick's tired of it. Of course he doesn't know it's because Monroe suddenly wants to eat people, but still, that's no reason not to talk to him.
Nick'd tried to give it time. He knows it's not exactly the safest of plans, or the most morally ethical, and he knows that it's a lot to take in. So he's been trying not to push - but it's been hard, having two of the most important people in his life angry at him, especially when it's for something he's doing in part for them.
At least Yuji will talk to him. Granted, they work together, so he's pretty much required to talk to him, but still. Monroe won't even answer his texts, or his calls, or the door the one time that he stopped by. And Nick's tired of it.
If he's being honest with himself - he isn't, but if he was - he'd admit that it's freaking him out. The longer Monroe avoids him, the more Nick wonders why he's avoiding him; if it's just because he's mad at him for coming up with the idea, because he's doing it, even though they'd both agreed that it was the right thing to do in the end, if he's having seconds thoughts about their relationship, if that's what's making him have second thoughts...
But he doesn't want to be thinking along those lines. So tonight he's knocking on Monroe's door again, and this time he isn't going to go away.
"Monroe, either let me in or I'm breaking the door down."

"Monroe, either let me in or I'm breaking the door down."

But he doesn't have an option right now. Unless he wants to hurt him. Or scare Nick off for good. Which isn't ideal either but better then the other option. Besides Nick will want to talk about this and figure out what's going on.
So he just needs to be happy that Nick is for once giving him space. Even if it sucks and he wants Nick here now.
Damn it why is Nick knocking on his door? Can't a guy just have a little space when he's feeling homicidal? Monroe goes to the front door, and yells out to Nick. "Go away."
But for some reason his hand is on the doorknob and he just manages to wrench his hand away before opening it.
no subject
Besides, didn't he hear the part about breaking in? Nick wasn't bluffing.
"No. Tomorrow's our anniversary and the plans I made really involve you talking to me, and I'd at least like to know if I still have a boyfriend to have an anniversary with. Last chance, man, open the door or I'm picking the lock."
no subject
He better be bluffing.
Monroe was about to yell at Nick but he stops. When he calls back it sounds like he's going to cave and let him in. "Anniversary? You made plans for our anniversary?"
But it's short lived. A second later he's right back to yelling. "Go away Nick. You can't be here right now."
no subject
He's not bluffing.
The tone of Monroe's voice there makes Nick start feeling almost relieved. He sounds hopeful, like he's pleased that Nick made plans for their anniversary, which can't mean-
And then Monroe's back at it again.
"Yeah, well, I am, so you're going to have to deal with it. You can't just keep hiding from me."
With that, he leans in to start picking the lock. Either Monroe's going to open the door or he's going to open it himself, but either way, he's going in.
no subject
Well Nick better change that to him bluffing. Monroe can't afford a new door.
Monroe yells back, "Watch me!"
Why won't Nick just leave him alone? Even just for awhile?
Monroe hears the picking noises. He doesn't need this right now. Monroe slams his shoulder against the door to get Nick to stop. Maybe it'll make Nick drop whatever he's using to get it open. "Knock it off Nick!"
no subject
Then maybe he should let Nick in.
Because Nick loves him.
Sorry, Monroe, but it'd take worse than a shoulder bump to startle Nick into dropping what he's holding. You get used to stuff like that when you're a cop. "I'll knock it off if you open the door," he replies, continuing to pick the lock.
He's not going to give up until he has it open, and once he does, he slams against the door, hoping to push his way in. Or at least get it open enough that he can slip through.
no subject
No.
... He does? Really?
He knew there had to be a downside to dating a cop. Apparently it's complete disregard for privacy and breaking and entering laws.
So yelling isn't working and neither is ignoring. Nick might actually get inside. Monroe drops the angry act. His voice goes soft. "Nick, please don't. You need to not be here right now."
no subject
Yeah, he does. But he probably won't admit it.
That's not usually a downside, but these are special circumstances.
No, none of that is working, and Nick is definitely going to get inside. Or at least he was, until Monroe's voice goes soft like that, and he says 'please.' "I thought you said you didn't want me gone." His own voice is soft as well, and he can't keep a slight tremble out of it. "If you changed your mind, you could have at least told me."
no subject
Damn it Nick! Admit things.
Monroe doesn't buy that.
He sighs and drops his head against the door with a thud. "I didn't change my mind. I don't want you gone but you have to leave."
no subject
He's not good at admitting things!
This is an extremely special circumstances, man.
Nick places one hand against the door about where he hears that thud; his other hand is still on the doorknob, holding it twisted so Monroe can't lock it again. "Why? Whatever it is, we can deal with it together. You've been avoiding me for over a week, Monroe, do you have any idea what I-" He hesitates. "Please. Tell me what it is."
no subject
Then they're doomed because Monroe hasn't even figured that out yet.
No it's not. You're boyfriend ignoring you isn't probably cause.
Monroe is silent for a bit trying to decide if he should tell him or not. He can't decide so he skirts around it. "I got another one of those pulse things and I'm not safe to be around. So just go away."
no subject
Nick's sort of figured it out. He just hasn't really admitted it to himself yet, either.
It's his boyfriend ignoring him after everything that's happened that's the cause.
Nick's first reaction to that probably shouldn't be to snort, but fortunately he manages to mostly suppress it. "I'm a homicide detective and I have a magical ability to use any weapon against things that 'aren't safe,' Monroe, try again. Unless you mean 'not safe to be around' the same way I'm not exactly safe to be around at the moment, and you didn't leave me, so I'm not going to leave you. If that's your only reason, I'm coming in."
And he pushes against the door, hoping to maybe catch Monroe off guard.
no subject
Well that's something?
It's Nick being a bit of a stalker that started this.
Well I did catch him off guard. Too bad his head was resting on the door. The door smacks into him and knocks him back enough that the door can open slightly. "Nick!"
no subject
It's something that means they're both not very good at this.
Hey, it's not stalking to go over to your boyfriend's house.
That's all Nick needs. He forces his shoulder into the crack of the door, opening it enough that he can slip through. He realizes as soon as he sees Monroe that he'd smacked the door into him, though, and that immediate becomes his temporary priority. "Shit, Monroe, I'm sorry. Are you okay?"
no subject
They aren't.
It is when you pick the lock after being told to leave.
Monroe backs up until he's against the wall with his hands covering his eyes. His voice is panicked when he asks what might sound like the most ridiculous question ever, "Are you wearing red?"
no subject
Maybe they'll get better together?
...okay, yes, that was a little stalkerish.
That's not exactly the reaction Nick was expecting. He frowns as he steps closer, nudging the door shut behind him. "What? No. Monroe, will you at least look at me?"
no subject
Monroe would like that.
Thank you.
"You're sure you're not wearing red? I can't look at you if you are so you need to check alright." Yes, he's panicking and making no sense but humor him.
no subject
Well, Monroe was being a jerk.
He does a quick check as he moves forward, because apparently it's important to Monroe. "No red. Now what do you mean by you're not safe, and what does red have to do with it?" He's close enough now to try to touch, so he does, reaching out to put a hand on Monroe's arm.
no subject
Monroe visibly relaxes when Nick says he isn't wearing red. Monroe's arm twitches when Nick touches him almost like he's going to pull away but doesn't. Instead for some reason it's really important to be close to Nick. He has no idea why, but since this feeling isn't coming with a desire to rip out someone's throat he latches onto it. Monroe presses forward quickly and presses his face into Nick's shoulder.
"I don't know."
no subject
Maybe he should be worried when Monroe moves forward quickly like that, after what Monroe told him, but he isn't. He just wraps his arms around Monroe, holding him close, and tangles one hand in the hair at the back of his head.
"...hi." He's missed Monroe, all right. "Okay. It's okay, we'll figure this out. What pulse did you get?"
no subject
Monroe nuzzles his face into Nick's shoulder, breathing in deeply because for some reason smelling Nick is really important right now. But at least this time someone's scent isn't making him want to chow down on them.
"I don't know. I didn't remember anything, I just can't be around people."
no subject
Nick still isn't sure what's going on, but he's more than okay with just standing in the hall, hanging on to Monroe. It means that what he'd been worried about isn't true - and now that he's here, he'll admit that it was probably paranoia. Monroe wouldn't change his mind like that without a reason.
"Is it something like the hearing or smell thing, overwhelming?"
But as soon as he says it, he knows that can't be it. He knows Monroe well enough to know that he wouldn't lock himself away like that, and not even let Nick in, if he was just worried about his own discomfort. He would have had to have been worried about the safety of other people.
"...did you get something else werewolf-y? Are you worried you'll turn into a wolf and try to eat someone?"
no subject
Monroe is good with staying in the like this in the hallway.
Yeah because he would freak out this much to that. Monroe just snorts humorlessly, and waits for Nick to try again.
And then Nick tries again. It starts out just as ridiculous as before, but then it gets too close for comfort. Monroe flinches. He doesn't want to focus on it so instead he corrects Nick. "I'm not a werewolf."
no subject
Nick might not be able to see Monroe's face, but he can feel that flinch. For a long moment after Monroe only replies to the werewolf part, Nick's quiet. It's obvious that Nick was really close there, and - well, he's read the entries about the wolf creature in the Grimm book. He's been preparing himself, trying to know what he might expect.
That's one of the reasons he keeps leaving the book at Monroe's, for all the help it's been.
But knowing it might come is different than having it happen. And Nick'd be lying if he said he wasn't a little freaked out. Not that Monroe might hurt him - never that, for some reason - but... just at the idea of wanting to eat people being a thing. A thing they now might have to deal with.
But he's trying not to show it, for Monroe.
"That's it, isn't it. I read in the book, there's - instincts. Urges." He pauses, then says quietly, "You don't have to lie to me Monroe."
no subject
Part of Monroe is thankful for the quiet. It means he doesn't have to answer anything else. But the longer it goes the more his concern grows that Nick is freaking out about this. Because who wouldn't? Nick can probably already tell what's happening. But he hasn't pulled away yet. That's something.
Monroe waits a moment after Nick answers. He doesn't sound repulsed, but this still isn't something he' ready to handle. "Maybe I just don't want to admit it."
no subject
Of course he hasn't pulled away. Monroe was the one that initiated this, and it's obvious that he needs Nick right now. There's pretty much nothing that'd make him pull away when Monroe needs him.
And Nick's still quiet for a little bit, after Monroe says that. He knows what it's like not to want to admit something, especially something related to the pulses, and he doesn't want to push it. But at the same time... "You're going to have to, at some point. I don't think this is one of those things that you can just pretend isn't there, and it'll go away."
no subject
Well Monroe figured the one thing that could get Nick to leave would be Monroe wanting to eat people. It's kind of a big thing man.
"Of course not. This is me were talking about. I'm never that lucky." that's the best answer Nick is going to get.
no subject
Yeah, it is. But it's not like this is unexpected. Nick's pretty much figured this was coming for a while, why does Monroe think he kept insisting on being prepared for more werewolf stuff? Besides, it's not like any of this is Monroe's fault.
"I don't know, I like to think you're at least a little bit lucky." His tone is light, almost joking, but not quite.
He's silent again for a moment, and when he talks, his voice is soft. "Monroe. We can't ignore this. We have to figure it out."
no subject
Yes it was! It was completely unexpected! Why would Nick be with him if he thought Monroe was going to one day eat people?!?
Monroe snorts and nuzzles into Nick's neck. Alright he gives up on that one. He's been lucky once.
"I have figured it out. I'm just going to stay in here. If I stay away from everyone it'll be fine." Monroe wishes it sounded like he believed that.
no subject
It wasn't, man. Werewolf stuff. Or Blutbad stuff, which Nick is pretty sure is what Monroe's heading towards. Since he actually read a lot of the Grimm book stuff. Nick never thought that Monroe'd actually eat people, just that they'd eventually have to deal with him getting urges to. And again, none of this is Monroe's fault.
That's better.
Even if Nick did buy that, he wouldn't let it go. "No way. I'm not going through the last week or two again, okay?"
no subject
Blutbad? What the crap is that? Of course it's not Monroe's fault. Why would Nick even say that? Nick hasn't been thinking that it was has he?
"What? The last two weeks I thought I might eat someone. What were you doing?" Was Nick trying not to eat someone? Because that's the only thing that compares.
no subject
Don't worry, Monroe'll find out what it is soon enough. Of course Nick hasn't been thinking it, but apparently Monroe might be. Why else would he think this is something that Nick'd leave him over?
"...trying to get a hold of the guy I'm crazy about while he goes through elaborate attempts to avoid me, really recently after having a serious conversation where one of the options was 'if this is too much for you, you can go.' Also? Not being able to contact my boyfriend when sudden disappearances are things that actually happen."
He was worried, you idiot.
no subject
Of course he's worried about it. He might start hungering for human flesh or something! He needs to be worried about it. For everyone's sake. And who would want to put up with that threat hanging over your head.
Monroe has to take a moment to process that. Yeah he fucked up. Monroe ducks his head and scratches at his scalp guiltily. He hadn't really stopped to think about That side of how Nick would feel. He was mostly worried about Nick getting hurt or never wanting to see him again when he found out. "Crazy about huh?" He smiles slightly at Nick because yes that is going to be the first thing he tries for. He doesn't like being in trouble.
But he knows it won't work so he's switching topics. "You're being really cool about this eating people thing man."
no subject
Well, yeah, that they need to worry about. But not about Nick leaving Monroe because of it; he wouldn't leave him to deal with it alone.
...who says that won't work? It might, it's already starting to work a little. "Is that you apologizing for worrying me and promising not to shut me out like that again?" Nick asks, smiling slightly despite himself.
And then Monroe says that, and Nick shakes his head. "All right, let's get this straight: I'm not really cool with this eating people thing. But I am really cool with you having instincts that give you urges to eat people that you don't want, so we just have to make sure you stay there. But - yeah, I guess. Why do you think I've been bringing up this werewolf stuff all the time and trying to get you to read stuff from my book?"
no subject
So Nick isn't leaving because he knows that Monroe isn't strong enough to handle it. Thanks for the vote of confidence man.
It is? Awesome. He was supposed to apologize? "Uh yes? I'm sorry?"
That was awkward to say. Did it sound awkward?
Nick is shaking his head no and Monroe starts panicking. He calms down once Nick is finished. For the most part. "I'm not a werewolf Nick."
no subject
No, Nick isn't leaving because he knows Monroe is more than strong enough to handle it, and he wants to be there to support him. So Monroe knows there's someone who believes in him.
"Thank you," Nick says, leaning in to kiss him, but pausing before he actually does. "You missed the promising not to leave me with nothing like that again."
Really, that's what Monroe focuses on? Nick rolls his eyes, moving over to pick up the Grimm book and flipping through the pages to the bookmarked entries on canine Wesen. "All right, fine, you're not a werewolf. What about this? Or this one?"
no subject
Oh well that's fine then. If Nick can keep doing that Monroe would be cool with it.
Monroe rolls his eyes. "I won't pull that again. Happy?"
Now that that was said Monroe leans in and kisses Nick. There.
And somehow Monroe's protest turns into Nick flipping a book in his face, which is filled with some really freaky pictures. But then one of the pictures strikes something in him. Looks way too familiar. "Stop. Go back."
no subject
Nick isn't planning on stopping any time soon.
"Ecstatic," he replies dryly, but he is happy with the promise. Monroe better stick to it. And he's even happier with the kiss.
He stops immediately when Monroe requests it, flipping back to the previous entry. "Blutbad?"
