alex+anthony+banagher+vanessa; normalcy?!
Who: Alexander, Anthony, Banagher & Vanessa
When: October 31st - November 1st
What: Camping!
Where: At the beach!
Warnings: --
For Alex, the festivity of October thirty-first was twofold: Halloween and his roommate's birthday. As with all gift-giving occasions, he presented Ravindra's presents in, perhaps not quite the most, but still an admirably convoluted fashion. Two costumes were individually wrapped in standard printer paper decorated with shitty Halloween-esque doodles in sharpie. These costumes were feline-inclined, though no one was stopping Ravindra from decorating his arms with each if he chose to do so. In recycled shipping boxes resided each gift, their 'packing material' fun-sized candies, and the boxes themselves taped normally, decorated with question marks, and placed on the island separating the kitchen from the living room.
Laid in front of them was a rectangular piece of cardboard framed in purple string lights. On it, in sharpie: Which one is the real present??
If Ravindra thought to flip it over: Both. :) PS cupcake in fridge. Happy birthday!!
Alas, Alex wouldn't be there to see his reaction (which was why he set up the presents in such a fashion in the first place) for the very simple reason that he was taking a few of the Numbers camping for the night. After all the paranormal bullshit and subsequent pressure from the encroaching police, leaving the heart of the city for a breather sounded like a good idea to him. Wanting to keep it on the downlow, he proposed the idea to Anthony, Banagher, and Vanessa, and was pleasantly surprised by their agreement. (Ravindra had been invited, too, but he'd declined.)
The normalcy of camping would do them all some good (or so Alex hoped.)
As much as a vampire, a zombie, a space person, and a metal-power thief could be normal, anyway.
(It might be worthy to note that Alex might look kind of sketch given his costume. Sorry, not sorry.)

Yes.
[pause, turns off the sink, grabs the nearest hand-towel to dry off] You tried it before. The other you. [AND IT WAS HILARIOUS. he still sounds v amused about it.]
no subject
He tosses the sullied paper towels into the trash bin and holds up a couple of clean sheets, intending for Ravi to dampen them with water from the sink since he's already up there.
He's not quite sure how to feel about Ravi remembering the other him-- the other other him, really. There's no negativity, more of a clouded befuddlement. Maybe because the subject matter is so silly?
That Alex directly prompted the pulse this time (and knows about it)? ]
Do you know anything else about him? [ He means specifically about 'him', not, say, Catherine or Amelia, but that Alex himself. ]
no subject
[his expression sobers when Alex asks.]
[he doesn't have many memories of that Alex. of that life, really. there's so much lacking context for him. he knows about the daughter, the wife, but even there, no concrete memories besides their deaths.]
...He must have fallen asleep on the floor a lot. [he holds the damp hand towel out to Alex]
That was the first pulse I had. Telling him he had a perfectly good bed to sleep in. [it is a little bit chagrined, because he knows it came out of a REALLY OBNOXIOUS AND CONTROLLING habit of his. his gaze is just a few degrees too low for eye contact]
no subject
I wonder why he did that. Sounds counter-intuitive...
[ Realizing something, he pauses and glances up at Ravi with a skeptical, amused look. ]
Wait, you mean we were roommates then, too? Seriously?
no subject
[he catches the look, and then there is a slow shift as his expression comes to mirror Alex's] ...I guess so.
[he retrieves the paper towels and uses them to wipe off the outside of the glass and the countertop] I used to call him an idiot a lot. [sip] Affectionately.
[...TOO AFFECTIONATELY, he just reminded himself of that bit, wow awk he regrets mentioning it]
no subject
'Affectionately.'
[ rly.
Rinsing out the towel, ] So, what, we were cavemen? If we were cavemen, then maybe the me you're remembering is the past life of the me I'm remembering...
no subject
[thankfully the next thing Alex says is so dumb it's very easy to shift away from awkwardness to exasperation]
I didn't realize healing hangovers was a thing cavemen could do.
no subject
[ After squeezing out the excess water, he drapes the towel over the faucet to dry and retakes his seat at the island. He touches one of the foiled muffin balls idly with the tips of his fingers. ]
I made these muffins for breakfast. Blueberry in oranges. Want one?
no subject
[yes he does.]
[verbal answers are for losers, he answers by walking over to sit next to Alex and snagging one of the foil balls to unwrap it.]
[it is only after he has already taken a bite that he pauses to ask something] Do you remember anything about me?
no subject
In response to the question, Alex taps the foil ball, lower lip jut out in thought. He has five memories wherein Ravindra was involved. Most of them were not exactly good -- not because of Ravi, but because of the subject of the memories.
Well. ]
You had short hair. Like, my kind of short. Shorter than my short, actually.
no subject
You realize I had to wear it in a crew cut for eight years, yes? Short hair is not strange to me.
[paaaause. that look he's giving Alex turns scrutinizing]
[Alex also had long hair in that memory and it was also pretty ridiculous. is it rude to mention that he's probably due for a haircut...?]
no subject
Well, yeah, but I've only known you with long hair!
I think you were some kind of guardsman...
[ He trails off, noticing Ravi's look, and lifts a brow in response. ]
no subject
[there was definitely some kind of organized enemy in that earthquake memory. But then, there are parts that don't match up, so maybe they're both right... What does that even mean, though?]
[thoughtful pause, deliberately turns away from Alex to focus on the muffin.]
You made these? It's good.
I think maybe you are due for a haircut soon. [SAYING IT LIKE THAT MAKES IT LESS WEIRD RIGHT... with the distraction first... right...]
no subject
Ravi speaks before he does. The compliment gets him beaming with success. He responds to the follow-up suggestion by glancing up at his bangs and running his fingers through his hair. ]
Yeah? Probably...
[ He doesn't sound enthusiastic about it.
He clicks his tongue and leans to the side, one arm folding on the island's surface, the other falling to his side. ]
I dunno, man. I dunno how comfortable I am with someone that close to me, you know? Now that I'm like this. What if they notice?
[ See: one of the reasons why he'd put it off for this long. (The other reason was Halloween.) ]
no subject
[he catches himself, though. the skepticism softens, but doesn't vanish.]
What would they notice? [a barber is probably not going to catch sight of a dude's fangs]
no subject
My temperature.
no subject
[he still doesn't think that's as major a concern as Alex does, but he understands the value of caution]
Maybe someone on the network can cut hair.
I could do it, but I don't think you want it that short.
no subject
Iiiiii dunno... [ It's not like he wants to advertise why he's reluctant to get his hair cut by a non-Number, and that wouldn't change his worry that his colder body temperature will be noticed by someone he doesn't want to notice it.
He flashes Ravi a small, skeptical smile. ]
Can I just tell you when to stop?
no subject
With clippers, I meant. I never have done it with scissors before.
[so, like. not really...]
no subject
[ Welp. He thinks about that for another second, glancing about the immediate area. When his eyes land on the shells, his brows rise in realization. ]
I can get it cut back home. [ Not home-home, but in the town near home. Outside Locke City, basically, where he won't have to worry about vampiric inconveniences (perceived or otherwise) because he will no longer be one.
Or... himself.
Or... the changed version of himself.
In other words, he'd be himself. Originally.
Better than getting caught or getting shaved bald, right??? (Right.) ]
no subject
[he finishes the muffin and considers going for a second. it was good, but he shouldn't eat too much...]
Ah--you could, yes.
[okay he's goin' for it. he reaches over to grab a second muffin, but does not unwrap the foil yet. brow furrowed, he looks askance at Alex] How do you feel about that? Going home? [leaving the city, in other words]
no subject
Uneasy. I don't like the idea of leaving when things could get worse.
[ Not because he thinks he can do much in the way of help, but because Lyall, Ravi, and the others are his friends. Because he worries about Anthony and Reilanin. ]
no subject
Is there anyone you would like for me to check up on while you are gone? [they both know that kind of thing will be MEGA AWKWARD for him (but hey what isn't), but if it will put Alex's mind at ease to know someone's looking out for people in his stead, then Ravi will make that sacrifice.]
[even if alex won't...know...technically speaking...]
no subject
He considers the offer quietly, looking at the shell without really looking at it. There are three people he thinks of right off the bat: Anthony, Lyall and Reilanin. Lyall would probably be okay, though, as far as being honest about needing help at least.
Anthony and Reilanin? He's not as sure. He's not sure about Reilanin in general -- the potential safety hazards associated with her -- and it was still odd to regard someone in that way.
Reilanin had already sought help with Lyall. Maybe that would be enough.
Still...
He glances at Ravi once, then twice. ]
Anthony and Reilanin...?
