[Ever since discovering that his number worked on more than just his small chalkboard, Luke has been scrawling, typing, and tapping it into or onto every surface he could thing of. As long as no one was looking of course. Unfortunately for Luke, the only computer in his house resides in his Grandfather's study. It's old and slow and "not for playing around on", so to do anything more than handwriting on the network he's had to get a bit creative. As for right now, the video feed shows a somewhat sparsely furnished but nice living room. There's a couch, a coffee table, a few family photos on the walls in the distance, and a few half unpacked boxes around the edge of the room. In the center is Luke. He's looking intently at a chalkboard in one hand, verifying that the video is working properly. When he sees himself standing there he smiles and puts it down, then leans in closer to the camera and speaks in a quiet voice.]

Okay I wasn't sure how this one was going to work, but this works. I'm connecting with my TV [He holds up the remote and waves it for a moment.] cause I needed to show you guys something and I'm not a very good drawer.

[He leaves the frame and comes back holding up a sword with a huge smile on his face. His voice remains quiet, but the bounce in his step implies that that's taking some effort.]

I got a sword. Isn't it cool?

That's...that sure is something.

[Nope, Hajime sure isn't at all reassured at the sight of a small child with a sword. He was a small boy once and he can understand that excitement there, but small child with a sword how is this not dangerous.]

Do you know how to use it?

[Luke blinks a few times, then looks at the sword.]

Well sure. You just....[Insert inept sword slashing and a few jabs here.]...hyaa?

[Meanwhile, Toushirou here doesn't really share much of Hajime's concern. Small children can do just fine with swords, thank you. When they're not being immature with them. So yeah, he sees the clumsy demonstration and:] Quit just waving it around like that.

[That is about the level of skill Hajime had expected a young boy to have, yes.]

You know, some people train for a really long time so they can know exactly what they're doing with swords...and then we've had people here on the network who have become sword experts overnight.

[There's a pause.]

You might want to be careful with it--swords are really sharp.

[Pia looks mildly impressed]

Wow, that's actually pretty badass. You look like you won the echo lottery.

[Another one who's received a sword - Anthony's attention is effectively snapped fast by both the fact that this must be the youngest and most likely unpracticed one who's gotten a weapon and the one that both the voice and face are entirely unfamiliar, and yet here the little boy is, without a bit of confusion or any other kind of hesitation about having connected to the network, freely sharing acquisition of a sword -

Try to air out the last bit of concern before addressing curiosity - the other responses processing flattens the brunt of it.]

-- Do you have a safe place to keep it - ? -- And excuse me. Hello - also.

[ A SWORD...

...she normally wouldn't even worry about the hazard that exists here but wow Luke please. ]

There's a few people on the network who know about fencing; maybe they can teach you before you start swinging that around?

[ maybe they can include safety tips ]

That...happens a lot.

[Actually he's really starting to wonder if it's the world's favorite thing to randomly spawn, at this rate]

Do you know how to use it?

Careful with that, young man - it's not a toy!

[Luke's excitement visibly dims a bit and he hunches his shoulders sheepishly.]

Oh, sorry.

[He holds the sword stiffly now, arm fully extended away from his body with the point of the blade sticking straight up. He's pretty sure this isn't right either but being reprimanded has made him hesitate to try anything else.]

[Luke's eyebrows shoot up at the word badass, and he instinctively glances to the ceiling. He's not new to bad words or anything, he's just a little wary of them still. Especially with his Grandfather napping a few rooms away, despite the fact that he snores like a tree going through a lumber mill and could probably sleep through several consecutive tornadoes.

He does his best to recover his composure quickly, and the fact that Porrim was paying him a compliment certainly doesn't hurt.]

Yeah, I can't wait to get more stuff.

[Luke blinks for a moment before nodding rapidly.]

Oh, yeah.

[He runs (still holding the sword) out of frame for a few second before re-entering, now holding a scabbard and belt meant to be worn over the back.]

It came in this thing.

[Toushirou is inwardly debating whether he should try giving proper sword instruction over the network. Seeing as he does have one now, and knows how to use it.

[He'd feel bad about killing the kid's buzz, but . . . Well, he's himself. And swords are nothing to mess around with. Sigh.] You've got to be careful with stuff like that; it's a weapon, not a toy. Just going to wind up hurting yourself if you're not careful.

[The swordiest of swords!

Luke quits brandishing and displaying his new toy, holding it limply at his side for a moment. His head tilts to one side before his eyes go wide with recognition. He smiles again and practically vibrates with excitement.]

Aria is that you? Don't worry I'm being careful. But this is so cool, you've got cool magic powers and I'm got a sword. It's like you're an awesome witch lady and I'm a brave warrior.

[This declaration comes complete with a small proud chest puff.]

Careful -- ... [Goes completely sharply tense for as long as the sight and sounds of running last - eases again when he returns to sight with the scabbard. It came with a scabbard, that appears to be a first - but that's half of the problem.]

Uh - oh, good - [Hasty but sincere.] -- But do you have -- anywhere... -- to keep - that? -- Where - anyone who isn't us - won't find it... [Tone's a little less hushed, more calm and frank than it'd ordinarily be - still mild and polite.]

A lot of people get swords, or I'm gonna get a lot of swords?

[~~The case may very well be both~~. He deflates a little bit at the question, but gets a bit of a defiant note in his voice.]

...Yeah sure. You hit bad guys with it.

[Super simple stuff here.]

I've heard of several people getting swords out of nowhere.

[He shouldn't be allowed to deal with most children, really, but nobody's stopping him]

...You'll injure yourself without proper training. It takes some skill.

[You sound alarmingly like his Grandfather and Luke looks cowed immediately. He stops waving the blade around and even makes a very slight attempt to hide it behind his legs.]

Sorry....I know.

[Luke nods and his arm stills. He's still smiling, but now it's more passive appreciation than manic childish glee.]

I'll be careful with it, and I'm sure I'll get better with practice. I might not know what I'm doing exactly yet but...[He hefts the sword in his hand a bit, gripping it securely.]...it feels nice.

[Now that Luke's gotten to listening Toushiro's voice a bit more, he realizes that it sounds pretty young. It doesn't change Luke's opinion of him that much, (he still sounds grumpy and bossy after all), but it adds a little something to his first impression. His arm relaxes and dangles loosely at his side as the conversation continues.]

I know that. Did you get one too?

[Luke's eyes flick to the ceiling as he frowns a little.]

Well...I could keep it under my dresser? Granpa can't really get down to look for stuff so it should be fine?

[The confidence in his voice is just overwhelming.]

[Grumpy and bossy is a pretty accurate description. He's pretty much okay with this.]

Little more than a month ago, yeah. And I got the skill with one way before that. These pulses are pretty stupid for doing things in any order other than that, if you ask me.

That is pretty cool but don't break anything with it. You don't wanna get hurt.

[oh god.]

You have a great deal to learn.

[So it is, and while he still sounds doubtful on the sword-and-scabbard-hiding point, Anthony's wondering is just pressing along further forward...] -- Maybe... - Just be careful - of course, uhm - ... -- This isn't - your first time - ...talking to us - is - ...Is it?
