What: Beat invites Neku over to read his Thunderdad's thoughts.



[After the lights, the buzzing, and zombie teammates, Beat's had enough. He was still a bit nervous about it, but it's time to crack down and pick some details from his dad's brain. Or at least, get a friend to!

After making some arrangements with private numbers texts, he waits out at the back of the school. It's a bit late because he couldn't skip practice - as much as he'd have liked to, the coach doesn't remember everyone zoning out. Which is really weird, but what are you gonna do?]

[Luckily, Neku had had practice as well (not to mentioned seeing a bunch of people zone out which... was really disturbing for a lot of reasons, not the least of which being a red pin he'd gotten that was staying the fuck at home), so neither of them has to wait too long. Neku throws his track shoes into his locker before heading out, headphones in a bizarrely comfortable position around his neck as he waves.]

[He waves back, putting on a grin as though they're not meeting to do some kind of weird supernatural spywork.]

Yo! Ready to head over?

Yea, sure.

[And because he doesn't know how to naturally bring this up, he'll just mention it when they're out of earshot of... anyone, really. And still being quiet about it even though he's sure Beat won't be.]

...So I got a memory with you in it from a Pulse.

[respecting]

Huh? [Beat looks over in surprise. The exclamation was a bit loud.]

When was that? I didn't remember nothin' lately.

Have you heard the buzzing? [He can only assume you have.] I followed it, and it lead me to the Tuning Towers, and then... I got a Pulse. For some reason

[respecting]

[No need to assume, he'll nod with a troubled look. The Tuning Towers, huh? As usual, it makes no sense, but he's already sick of commenting on that.]

Huh... it almost sounds like the buzzin' is some kind of signal. So what was I doin' in your memory?

[Being stupid?] Uh, from what I can tell, I was in that Reaper's Game... thing. And I was worried over something, and then what I guess where Reapers came up to try and kill me or something, only you showed up. With... wings. And then you said you'd 'pact' with me, and then there was this weird lightshow and that's about all I got.

I had the wings too? That's weird, I didn't think I did. I only remember seein' em on the Reapers. That "Pact" thing sounds familiar though. Huh...

I... think it means we were partners, in that game thing. Since that's how it works. I think.

[respecting]

Oh. Partners, huh...

[The Reapers in his flashback said that his partner was "toast!" Were they talking about Neku?]

So you don't remember what happened after the lights? Not even if I bailed you out wit the Reapers?

Not really. That's pretty much where it ends.

Damn...

Well, if we partners, I guess we oughta stick together more. Maybe it'll do somethin' else! And you're already gonna help me wit' my dad, so why not?

Yea. I guess we oughta. [It's pretty clear at this point that they're from the same... world? Life? Whatever the fuck it is. They might as well stick together.]

[respecting]

Sweet.

[They're getting pretty close to his house now. He flicks his chin toward it]

We comin' up on the house. Act natural, yo.

[Honestly he's more worried about that for you.] Alright. [yup just acting like a normal teen kid.]

[Neku's worries are not unfounded. The fact that he even had to tell him that implies that he's nervous - and if he couldn't tell from that, Beat's also perspiring a bit. He walks up to his front door.]

[and then after that awkward pause, he unlocks it and flings it open]

YO DAD! I'M HOME!

[the yelling is completely unintentional.]

[...sigh. Well, they're in the house so it's too late now. Neku will have to just try and compensate for Beat's... Beatness. He's not sure that's possible, though.]
