belphe[After a rushed afternoon of playing catch-up at work, Belle finally has found some time to herself to update one of her patient files in privacy now that Doctor Korai's office has closed for the day. Privacy is necessary, after all, when the patient in question has, as far as anyone she works with knows, stopped receiving sessions months ago.
She pulls up the folder and, after giving the password it's bi-weekly change, begins a new file. In place of a name, she inputs a familiar sequence of numbers in the heading, unknowingly accessing the network for the first time as she fills in the date, and titles the page "PROGRESS REPORT"]
I recently accompanied the patient on a shopping trip to observe him in a public setting. While picking out groceries, he became anxious and had a hard time making selections, leaning toward expensive smaller items which had ingredients adhering to his ideals rather than economy items more suited to his budget. He has imposed the limitations of kosher eating on himself and applies to it strongly, despite having previously stated no religious affiliation.
I tested the limits of his comfort zone, seeing where he would and would not be willing to compromise. I initially had some success convincing him to add a package of bulk muenster cheese to the cart that did not explicitly advertise itself as kosher, over a much smaller package costing more which did. Following that, he became agitated at further suggestions and separated himself from me for a time. When we met up again, he had made a few selections of his own from the frozen aisle and seemed more agreeable for the rest of the shopping trip.
The patient's need for constant structure at the cost of his own well-being is worrying and is something that will need priority in being addressed in future sessions. I believe finding constructive outlets for this behavior might help him to alleviate this, ease his anxiety, and help him build independence.
