So what kinda shape were their mecha? Or was it mech-free and the type where they just punch things?

The mech fights were usually at the end. They'd defeat the monster on the ground, it would turn giant, and then they'd beat it again. Except in last year's. REALLY good year for mech fights.

Oh! There was the American adaptation of MegaRanger. That one was set completely in space.
