Who: Nick (
detectivetroll), Alex (
moarnomsplz), and Monroe (
grimmopedia)
What: Hanging out during a sparring session
Where: Monroe's backyard
When: An afternoon this weekend
Monroe'd gone a bit bug-eyed when Nick told him that he'd volunteered his backyard for sparring sessions, and then even more cranky when he'd told him it was because the kid had a tail with a giant blade on the end of it. Nick'd like to think it's because Monroe's concerned about Nick's well-being, with sharp objects being swung at him, but it's probably mostly because he's worried about the state of his backyard landscaping. But he goes along with it anyway.
When he and Alex'd first started, Nick'd set up targets, of varying kinds and distance, to to try to get a handle on his level of accuracy - and on just how sharp that blade was. He wanted to know just how much protective gear he should be using. So far, when it came to actually sparring, Nick's been using protective gear and wooden or metal sticks to deflect the blade, but he's been toying with the idea of finding a short sword or something.
Nick hadn't gotten a chance to grab lunch before meeting up with Alex today, so by the time they're done sparring, he's starving. "What do you say to take out or pizza? My treat."

While they're outside trying to beat the crap out of each other Monroe is inside staying close to his first aid. Very close. He's not hovering at all.
And even though he definitely wasn't hovering he noticed when they wrapped up, and heads outside, catching what Nick said. "You mean you weren't planning on forcing me to make you dinner after you stole my house?"

His embarrassment comes roaring back once they're done and Monroe comes back out, making itself very obvious in how Alex's face goes red.
"Sorr, sorry," he tells Monroe, then turns back to Nick. "Pizza, za, sounds great."

"Don't mind him," Nick tells Alex. "His bark is worse than his bite. Pizza it is, then! What do you guys want on it?"

Good to hear that spending time with Monroe feelings like forever. Jerk.Monroe shifts back and forth from foot to foot, uncertainly. He just wanted Nick to get that he was vaguely unhappy about his house being invaded. He wasn't trying to make the kid feel bad. He does then only thing he knows how to do, ignore the kid and focus on Nick. He glares at Nick to show just what he thinks of Nick's comment.
"All meat."

And he's still standing here like a dork with other-Alex's tail. (It's easier to think of it that way.) He concentrates until it sort of curls back up on itself and disappears.
"Oh, and thanks. Both of you."

Shut up it was meant in a good way. It's not hard to pick up on both Monroe's uncertainty and Alex's hesitation, although for the moment, he can't do anything about Monroe. He can try to make Alex a little more comfortable, though, as he shakes his head. "I'm buying, and I was planning on getting two pizzas, so get whatever you want, all right?" He grins a bit. "I'll eat anything on pizza as long as it's not pineapple."
Nick watches the tail disappear, still a little bit fascinated by it. He's gotten used to it, but it's still pretty cool. "You're welcome. It's good practice for me, too, since I have the feeling I might end up going up against more than the standard criminals I'm used to."
...he hadn't meant to let any indication that he was a cop slip out, but he's feeling comfortable enough that he hadn't been watching himself like he usually does.

Unlike his two house guests Monroe hasn't seen that tail curling thing. Monroe gawks at Alex and points from the kid to where the tail has been. "How did- where did?"

Alex didn't know Nick was a cop. He tries not to poke too much into numbers club people's lives outside of all the weird stuff happening to them. The way he sees it, pulses are fair game for curiosity, but parents or kids or S.O.s and jobs aren't so much. It kind of feels safer to him to keep the two worlds separate.
He gives a little smile at Monroe's reaction to his tail vanishing.
"Other-me has, like, shape-shifting-ing powers. I only have the tail so far, but the shifting part care, carried over, too."

Nick has the same view, especially given what his profession is. He's well aware of most of the network's opinion on the Locke City police, and that's just another reason not to let anyone know what his job is. For the moment, though, he doesn't realize what he'd said, and calls an order in for the two pizzas while Monroe gapes at Alex's tail shifting.
"Hey, I never asked - what kind of shape-shifting? Aside from the tail."

Monroe looks at him suspiciously, trying to figure it out, "You're not a cat, are you?"

He's pretty sure other-Alex has a friend who's a bird, but that seems too silly to say aloud, even to other numbers club people. At least right now, when the feeling is all he has to go on.
"Do you guy-zuh get weirdly vague pulses, too?"
no subject
"He's only asking that because his other self was probably a dog," Nick comments, then considers the rest of that. "So a centaur alien with a tail blade who can shape shift? I have to admit, as far as other selves go, that's pretty badass." It's weird to think about, and probably really complicated, but still badass.
"Yeah. All the time, actually, 'weirdly vague' describes the majority of the pulses I've gotten. Just feelings, or what feels like a memory without any context."
no subject
That's pretty much exactly what Monroe thought so he nods along and lets Nick handle it. He doesn't have a better explanation and he knows it.

Other-Alex is pretty kick-ass, he guesses, but if he keeps getting pieces of him, it'll get harder and harder to hide. "And yeah. The best description, shun, I've come up with for other-me is 'fuzzy, zee, blue centaur with no mouth.' I got a good look at his brother in one of the pul-sez, so I have a pretty good mental pitch, picture."
ugh sorry for late, i thought i tagged this
His brows furrow a bit at that description. "No mouth? How did he talk? Or... eat, for that matter?"
