[Hey, look who it is back on the network. She looks pretty terrible this time around though, even more pale than usual, her face is drawn and one of her arms is wrapped up in bandages. She has a few others on her other arm and one on her forehead from where she'd beat herself up with that steel ability.

She should probably still be resting up, but sitting around in bed on funky pain pills has gotten old really fast. ~~Plus they sell for good money so she might be saving them.~~]

So, I'm not dead if anybody was wondering. I think we got that fungus stuff but if you run into it yourself don't hang around because it'll probably send zombified... things to attack you. [She holds up her bandaged left arm just for emphasis.]

On the bright side, it looks like I got some kind of power out of the whole fucking mess.

[She sighs and glances away, frowning. Ugh, she's no good at thank yous. Not ones like this anyway.]

[Well, that stops the laughing then. She goes stiff as a board for a second before sitting back in her chair and looking off to the side. She'd figured that was going to come up eventually.]

[Yeah, she doesn't like talking about it. Because she's had this conversation before and it ends with her being just "that poor kid" again. She hates it.]

Somebody needed something delivered once and I needed the money. We kept in touch.

[She's still looking away from the notepad and there was an edge to those words. She doesn't. She's not a killer. But he's right about those coins, and then there's that that knife and....

wanting to know and not wanting to know the truth was a fucking mess. he regrets bringing this up now. if he hadn't, he would have just brought it up later, though. it's not something he can just ignore.

like vanessa, he is visibly troubled, looking askance, biting the inside of his cheek. eventually, he exhales deeply through his nose and looks at her again. ]

Okay. Okay. [ he lifts his hand. ] I just want you to know-- I'm not judging you. Okay?

[Vanessa doesn't. Just stays where she is, sitting back in the chair and folds her arms tight. About as defensive as a person can get in body language terms.

He had to bring this up now, didn't he? Just a second ago, she had even been feeling a little better. Hell, for awhile, she'd even been able to focus on something other than that accident.]

I know. [She just glances his way for a second, her expression and voice bitter.] Nobody's ever judging me. They're all really nice about it.

[Some part of her knows she's being unfair, but the rest of her is tired, angry and scared. If she hadn't thought to swallow that steel, if that Echo had come a few seconds later, if Chris and the others had been a few minutes later she would have died. Horribly. And if she's lucky, the next time it happens it'll be "almost" again.

It is starting to look pretty messy.

Hair is a serious issue. It colors our first impressions.
