[It takes a couple of seconds for him to proceed, and when he does, his tone his slightly anxious one.]

Does anyone else think it feels almost like something - could be trying to get us ready for something?

I haven't been able to get that notion out of my mind ever since after I asked my last question, and so many people assured me that the story... I asked about... should be important if I felt in some way like it has to be. Another one brought up that there's no obvious way that people could be finding real objects from nowhere as if they were the same as the ideas or the new skills some people've learned, but it would be too bizarre - it would be too much if they weren't related, and just coming to us all at the same time.

[Though his words had been moving more quickly and evenly on all of that last, he stops and considers swallowing the bottom line that he'd been so ready to go on and produce. When he says it, he says it trippingly - it's snagging on the thought that as soon as it's let out it'll come across as an obvious pathetic, no-more-progressive waste of breath, but it wants to get out all the same.] So -- what if... something... is deliberately sending us - signs, and things we need for something else?

[He doesn't bother trying to conclude that neatly - he cuts that there to distance himself and ask himself how on earth that's any more of an explanation as to how people have been getting actual items out of thin air anyway as he's sure people are going to ask now that he's gone and blurted all of that out.]

If that's the case then I'd say whoever's running the draft board needs to get their shit together. Aside from a couple military types, most of us don't exactly seem like the A-Team.

There may be purpose in all this. In fact, I'm pretty sure there is. I don't know that it's necessarily preparing us for fighting-- maybe just for survival, or for diplomacy. We could be learning from the lives of others, for all we know.

We can't know for sure until we get more information about everything.

[Meanwhile, Anthony gets the mysterious impression that this is Bakura, and that he is indeed just being teased.

If you know of Power Rangers, it's like that. Group of random people living normal lives that get chosen to pilot mecha to battle against giant monsters.

I'm still holding out for the mecha. Because that would be awesome.

Well - maybe it's because we're not ready enough yet... It's only been a month, and not everyone's gotten physical things or sudden new skills...

Only when you were fighting. They vanish after. And you get costumes so no one can tell who you are anyway!

Do you think that it could be for the invasion that was referred to? Would that explain why they would kill us?

Yeah. Or got abilities that are pretty much useless.

[He speaks from painful experience, here]

It's the only lead we have so far. I can't think of anything that would require a little help to get through more than an invasion. I don't know about killing us for that reason, though. I don't think they know about these visions and abilities, only that some people are aware of what they're doing and displeased with it.

[He tries to keep positive, with his students. Particularly Anthony, given how nervous he seems about all this.]

A kind of call to adventure, like in any Campbell cycle, huh? Be nice if the caller was clearer on things, but I suppose that's not so narratively satisfying.

[Truthfully, Anthony doesn't mind it from Mr. Lyall, really. But he is finding the impression he's getting that every other mature person in all of this is handling him with kid gloves increasingly disheartening - and the teasing that the other boys seem keen on giving him to feel oddly healthy.]

What if it was the "dandelion sprites"?

It seemed all of us saw affected animals often. Still it was possible for them to be talked about by others as a rumor. Could Paul's complaint about them have meant something more?

God... works in mysterious ways. [He tries to hold his tone up to a buoyant level in accordance with his reading of that response - in part to avoid starting in on any questions of his seriousness. He feels a sting inside on saying that, though - thinking again that Paul, who he'd gone to the same school as him without him knowing all along that he was like the rest of them, was let die, along with his whole family, for this, in some way or another.]

[Anthony wonders whether it might be. Even if it wasn't, he simply wants to know who is discovering themselves with what new abilities, and visions, and foreign thoughts, and items - how else can what it means be seen?]

Can you do anything new -- if you don't mind telling?

[Wry laugh] Well, it's not so much something I do; more like something that just kinda...happens. Usually when I get pissed off or upset about something. Things kind of...uh...blow up. Or maybe disintegrate's a better word for it. Something like that.

What about you?

[When you sound shy and nervous-- and are fifteen-- it does tend to make people treat you more carefully. Lyall's certainly no exception.]

Paul wasn't the only one who reported seeing them to the police, though, I'm sure. I know other people have noticed them. There have been some around the school, though not for a while now.

He must have said something more. I wish I'd had more chance to talk to him more before the end. Then at least I'd know what was so dangerous to tell them.

I think that there is a reason.

[And this isn't doing anything to stabilize his sense of usefulness in the middle of all of this. On that response, he freezes. He reads it a few times, he thinks of another suggestion he could offer, or another question that doesn't have a dead obvious answer, but he has nothing. He doesn't have any information that Mr. Lyall wouldn't, most likely, and all it takes is letting himself pause to know that that gets him disarmed and helpless. That with equal amounts of information, many people would know better than him, especially Mr. Lyall, is something not to be second-guessed.]

I'm not trying too hard, too soon to help at finding the reasons for these things, am I?

There's no harm in trying. It's completely natural, after all, and I haven't managed to keep from making a few theories of my own just to keep from letting it drive me crazy. But I also think we don't have enough information to make valid theories, and I think anything we come up with now will probably be debunked in a few weeks, or even days, anyway. So there's a balance, I think, that we have to find?

Not that I necessarily know what this balance is, yet, but I know there has to be one.
