[Obsessing over the numbers while trying to practice that weird skill for making small objects float was definitely a bad combination. Hugo seems to have gotten the control down enough to have caused the object to make tick marks for his set of numbers.

And then he sees a bunch of weird stuff on his wall, not realizing that it's also broadcasting him and his living room. He's sitting on a couch and the living room itself looks pretty nice. There's nothing around that would give away the fact that he owns an adult clothing store, not even his own appearance would right now.]

Great, so on top of the random things floating now I'm seeing and hearing things. As if I didn't have enough problems with these weird numbers getting in the way of bookkeeping each day. Definitely am still regretting going to that stupid art exhibit.

So either I became the victim of another joke from one of my employees or this is just a bad dream and maybe I'll wake up in the morning with no more weird stuff except for some of the customers. I'd really rather avoid having to visit a shrink.

Of course it would. I'm talking to a random voice that is likely a hallucination brought on by one of my employees slipping me something again like when he thought it would be a great idea to give me some hash brownies to "chill out" some more.

It's not that at all. The club is a group of people who woke up with numbers in our heads, just like you. The numbers can be used to access this network on any surface that can call up the numbers - the phone, the computer, take out menus, walls, floors, televisions, and so on. When you get your numbers, you also get a strange ability or a memory that doesn't seem like yours or an object that won't go away.

And does that FAQ you have give anything about how to make it stop? I've already accidentally given out some free things because of stuff jumping into bags.

No. None of us knows why we have this network or why we are starting to get these weird things or why we see weird creatures. What we have managed to figure out is that there is some kind of force out there that wants to get rid of everyone, and we're the only ones that can see them for what they are.

Great, it gets even better.

From my own experience the worst thing is hearing the words "you have cancer". After watching my mom suffer through the treatments to later die painfully, those three words are the last ones I ever want to hear being said to anyone I know.

...Cancer? [he looks haunted for a moment, eyes wide and his skin paling and then that moment is gone as he shook his head.]

That's always worse then death.

I can guarantee you, being able to access this network and see this isn't a guarantee that you'd need a..."shrink," as you put it. It's more of a result of a series of inexplicable phenomena than anything else.

[And as usual, Hugo does a fine job of annoying people by just opening his mouth.]

It's the usual manner of accessing this network, really. A string of numbers you can't shake, inevitably entering them into something or writing them on something, and then the network appears.

The first is right, the stupid numbers won't leave my head and I almost screwed up the books the other night. But I didn't do anything with them, I was just messing around with making a pen float so I don't have any more accidents of things jumping in a bag when I'm near the register.

You didn't somehow input the numbers on accident with the pen?

Not that I recall. I might have by accident since they won't leave my head and I sometimes start writing them when inputting the daily sales and expenses.

That's highly possible. As I said, they do seem to be rather persistent up until the point at which one first connects to this network. Absentminded entry of the numbers is almost to be expected.

[Going to assume at this point that Hugo somehow figured out how to change to just audio, or went to another room and turned this on. He's going to be assuming that the odd voice is thanks to the recording from a weird object, but does recognize the voice. Oh great, one of the customers who has seen him. Though Julien wasn't a bad sort, only oddity is the blue hair, but otherwise fairly normal.]

It already did after I let myself be convinced to see some ugly statues.

But you're right about who I am and I do hope you enjoyed your purchases.

It'll just get more so. Alas, complications tend to compound. ...If you leave the area, get out of the county or so, you forget all this and any items or mutations or whatever are gone until you come back. That's as close as we have to making it stop, and you can see why it's not a perfect solution.

Haha, sure! Yeah I know I haven't been back for a while, it didn't work with me and Nico... But, that's how it goes!

No, it really isn't since that would require me to sell the store and the house and move to another place. I'd hate to give up on something so successful, especially when I still have a pile of medical expenses and college debt to pay off.

There wasn't much to really miss. People were fawning over some statues, two of snakes, one of a dying wolf. I thought they were the most hideous things I'd ever seen and since then I've been unable to get these numbers out of my head and can make small objects float in the air. Only really useful if I'm feeling too lazy to get up and grab a pen or a book.

Well, it's more useful than what I got with them. Still, good to know not keeping up with the art world continues to be a good decision.
