[You know Anais is going to keep this short and to the point. She's taking a video with her new phone. The video is of a four-winged green bird the size of a house that happens to be sitting on top of Anais' apartment building. After a moment, it leans it's head down to peer at her.

She takes a step back before rushing inside the building and turning the video to herself. She is absolutely horrified.]

What do giant birds eat? Do you think it's carnivorous? What if it eats people?! Where am I even going to put it?! It talked in my echoes but it's not talking now!

It's supposed to be a robot, I can't take care of something this big!

[And it's big. You can see all five feet of Fuu down at the bottom next to the text.]

How did he seem when he spoke in your memories? Reasonable? Not reasonable? I see no reason he shouldn't be the same here. If he was reasonable there, then he should not give you any trouble now.

Well, he asked Fuu to prove herself. He didn't seem unreasonable, but he seemed totally prepared to let her die if she failed.

[Before the bird answers, he jerks in surprise. Someone's just gotten himself an echo.]

Sometimes, such tests appear to be very dangerous, yes.

What sort of manner did he wish her to prove herself with? I...remember such things. Watching such trials.

Well... he told her to prove her strength of heart. She and her friends were attacked by a dancer who could use mind control, and the dancer tried to get her friends to kill her, but she created a spell--I can use it--to immobilizing them without hurting them. So the dancer used mind control on Fuu instead and told her to kill her friends, but he wanted her to prove that she could break out of it. It seems like a really risky bet to me.

Ahhh, such tests often are rather harsh, but the rewards are great once they are persevered through! In the trial I recall, a man was fighting a tyrannosaurus, and he came rather close to getting eaten! But he survived, and he was stronger for it!

But a human could never fight a T-Rex. We're not even the right size, unless it was a baby or something...

But he did! He and the dinosaur fought, and he was armed only with a handgun!

He won by allowing it to swallow him up in one bite, and then shooting him from the inside! It was very brave!

... The poor dinosaur. [ANAIS NO.] I'm glad he survived, at least. Fuu didn't have to kill anyone at the time...

I don't believe there was any lasting damage; the dinosaur got up again afterwards!

Not having to kill anyone is always for the best.

... But he shot him from the inside.

He was also a robot! I believe it saved him.

Oh I see. That makes sense. [No it doesn't.]

It does! Voltasaurs were very strong.

[And yet this is far from the strangest thing he'll be remembering...]

And they were robot dinosaurs?

Yes! That is exactly what they were!

... Robot dinosaurs. Testing humans. Okay. [She's... nodding along.]

That's exactly right!

[This is all very, very normal, really...]

You know, I guess it's no different from robot birds. I'm still not sure any of this is real.

I assure you, it is all real! Somewhat fascinating, but very real!

Fascinating and physically impossible at some points.

But if it were truly impossible, then how would it still be happening?

... Magic, I'd assume? It's the only reasonable explanation.

Perhaps! Although I do remember a great deal of science.
