they're coming to get you, barbara [closed]

Who: Rachel Roth, Brooke Reynolds and Kara Miroshnychenko
When: Evening of February 15th
Where: Rachel's house
What: Bad horror movies and an irresponsible amount of discount candy.

The invitation was out, everything had lined up, and now all there was to do was wait. Them!, Return of the Living Dead, Dead Alive... it went on. Bad-good horror movies, all, and it was hard to go wrong with a classic ridiculous creature-feature like Them!. Rachel glided through the entrance hall, lighting a cigarette before glancing at her phone again to check the time.

"Hey, Brooke. You're sure this is fine?" she called into a nearby room.

"Only as fine as you are," Brooke responded casually, soon following Rachel into the entrance hall with a thrilled look on her face. "I've barely spent any time with anybody lately. And you actually picked some decent movies, too!" She'd seen Return of the Living Dead enough to pick it apart frame by frame, but it took three or four viewings before she really realized she wasn't supposed to be taking it seriously.

"I'm completely down with this." Still, hopefully Kara would object to the "smoking indoors" thing. Brooke definitely thought it looked cool and wasn't about to tell Rae she couldn't do something, but her lungs occasionally disagreed. "She's on her way, right?"

'On her way' translated to 'galloping up the steps in a desperate bid to arrive early' on this particular night. Kara had spent an inordinate amount of time categorizing her leftover candy into things to keep for herself, things to bring, and things to foist on unsuspecting fellow students; the intense thought given to what candies should be shoved into her Little Mermaid tote bag had caused her to run late (by her standards) and arrive only ten minutes early. What a great way to start this night of fun and bonding.

She paused to catch her breath slightly before rapping firmly on the door, bouncing up and down on the balls of her feet several times to disperse the nervous energy a little. It was a small mercy that no one from her family could see her now - she'd instinctively thrown her hair into a traditional crown braid, one of the surest signs that she was distracted while getting ready. Thankfully no one here would notice, and perhaps things could still proceed smoothly.

That was probably her. Brooke turned on her heel almost immediately and headed over to the door. "I'll get it," she said to Rachel, figuring she'd rather let her finish the cigarette. Just because Brooke wasn't a big fan of it didn't mean she'd deny Rae the pleasure. Addictions were hard. Anyway.

Brooke peered out the peephole, then opened the door wide. "Kara!" she said, extending her arms in what totally wasn't an invitation for a hug. One of the first things she noticed was the braid, which looked adorable, but she'd bring that up in time. Sure, she was a little early, but that just meant the party could start even sooner! And it wasn't like Brooke was in any danger of running late herself, with how much time she spent at Rachel's. "Come in, let's do this."

"Brooke! Oh, it is so good to finally meet you in person!" Invitation or not, Brooke was getting a strong hug regardless; there was too much excitement coursing through her body for Kara to focus on limiting her physical affection to make Americans comfortable.

Rachel would be getting an enthusiastic wave of her own once Kara had disengaged from the hug and stepped into the house proper. Thankfully she didn't seem to have quite enough energy to go around charging everyone with embraces.

"Hello to you as well, Rachel! Your house is very charming!"

God. It was so cool, the way Rachel did that hovering thing. And also adorable. Especially when she mentioned her bubbe while doing it. Brooke tried very hard to conceal how head-over-heels she was for Rachel, but Kara's hug and overall demeanor were just so damn infectious that it felt like every single positive emotion Brooke had was being amplified. Well, 'twas the season.

"It's great to finally meet you, too. I totally see why Rachel wanted to be friends with you," she lied. Not that Rachel was gloomy or anything, but... well, whatever, there was that saying about opposites attracting. "Sorry it took me so long to pick up that slack, but hey, we've got all the time in the world and more than enough movies to fill it with."

Kara couldn't help but giggle a little bit as she (in a much less interesting manner) followed down the hall - it was always cute to see couples who were visibly into each other. The tote bag bounced at her side, less a result of her stride and more a thoughtless discharge of more excitement.

"There is no need for the apologies! It is not as if it were something you were obligated to do," she replied with a smile. "Speaking of the movies, however, I must ask what we are watching as I am quite curious. Or is it meant to be surprising?"
