Rift in the clouds

Who: Calista [personal profile] sugoku & Cain [personal profile] cava
Where: Calista's apartment
When: November 6th, sometime after the irc chat
What: They've needed to talk for a while. During the chat, Cain prompted Calista for the discussion and then headed over to her place where she's waiting for him

She waited for him. There wasn't much to do after the chat deteriorated into small talk. Shutting down IRC, she rose from her computer chair and stretched her arms over her head, holding it for a couple of moments and then dropping her arms to her sides. There was no need to turn off her computer, instead choosing to walk away from it and prepare for her brother's arrival.

This talk was a long time coming. After the echos and new information not only about the city, but themselves and each other too, it not right to keep hiding. In all honesty, they should have spoken sooner, like normal people would. For Calista, it just wasn't on her immediate list of things to do, and she could bet her brother's dragging of his feet was for the same reason.

The apartment itself was clean enough. It probably wasn't up to the standards of others, but what little mess there was, was controlled and mostly neat. Now it was just a matter of sitting on the couch and waiting while idling playing a game on her iPad. He told her he'd come after the chat was over, but that really could have meant anything.

He's there within the hour. Cain's got the goggles around his neck, and his hair has grown longer--now simply tied back for convenience's sake.

This meeting was long overdue, honestly. They needed to compare notes, they had to figure out what exactly was going on, surely? To that end, he's brought some of his recent Echoed items with him--two in a case he holds in his right hand, the other slung over his shoulder.

Somehow, he had a feeling that this wasn't going to be easy.

Knock knock, Calista.

He takes the unspoken invitation, stepping inside. He's a little surprised to see her like this, but he's hardly about to show it.

Still, he takes a seat, nodding once towards her. That tank he was carrying gets shifted into his lap as he starts to open the laptop bag. "Do you have anything to say? Any questions, perhaps?"

"A fuel tank of sorts. A... smaller version of the usual, I believe. Unfortunately, it would appear to be empty." He gestures to the text on it.

ENETRON

"Would this happen to ring a bell?" As he speaks, he fishes out a highly customized laptop and a red plastic card from his bag.

"... I wouldn't know anything about that." It's surprising to hear her start with that, even if he has no idea what he expected otherwise. He's telling the truth, surprisingly enough. "I remember giving up on you, but never killing you.

"And I remember that you were corrupted. Something was wrong with you, Calista. I was making an effort to restore you to how you were, but..." he shakes his head. he doesn't remember anything about what she's saying, not yet. "It was futile."

It isn't that difficult to guess at what's on her mind, given the circumstances.

"Here." Cain hands off the red card to her. It bore an insignia on one side, and the word "METAVIRUS" on the other along with some design work. It looked a fair amount like a credit card.

"It's important to who we were - what we did, if we're to believe these are past lives."

.... Well, that's not something you see every day. He raises an eyebrow as the second iPad appears, looking at the message that showed up when Calista attempted to turn it on. Enetron again. Stranger and stranger...

"It contains something called Metavirus. Whatever that is, I suppose. Some sort of program, I imagine... With it, the laptop, and a source of enetron, I was able to...create creatures from objects. I can remember making one using a power drill." He rubs between his eyes. This entire situation is giving him a headache.

"I imagine your new toy is no different from this computer."

"Quite honestly, Calista? I want no part of it." He shakes his head, before he looks up to meet his sister's eyes. He's been saying this to himself the whole time. As far as he's concerned, it's still true. Even if he's horribly curious about this whole thing.

Cain couldn't help but laugh a little as well, running a hand over his forehead. The sheer ridiculousness of their situation hadn't escaped him.

"At this point, I think he's afraid of us learning anything new. He won't provide much trouble there."
