I'm pretty sure none of you's gonna be able to guess, seeing as it's pretty specific, so I'll go ahead and tell you, how about that? And no, it ain't personal or dirty as such, just gross as shit.

[A pause, and he grimaces, one hand darting up to massage his left eye.]

It's when your lover kisses your eye in a kind of romantic gesture - bless his heart - and you end up with this... really damn vivid memory of having it gouged out and eaten. Like, the feeling of having your eye still partly attached and chewed loose? [A shudder.] Seriously, I ain't sure how much more messed-up shit I can take "remembering", or whatever it is we do.

[A loose shrug, teacup wobbling a bit.] Sorry to put y'all off your breakfasts, I just wanted to whine a bit. Carry on, I guess.

Yeah, that's a hospital visit I would rather avoid having. Especially since I seem to be healing up quicker than I used to. The way things are I'd rather not risk raising any red flags, however minor.

[ There's no hesitant pause before he answers and there is no hint of any apprehension in his voice, only a bit of curious interest. ]

Were the two of you together before this all started happening?

Hm. [ There's a brief pause before he continues. ] I think we met just at the beginning of things. Or just when things started to get really crazy. He was the one who told me about the network in the first place. [ His voice takes on an amused note. ] To be honest I thought him a bit crazy at the time. Little did I know, huh?

We... seem to be connected in who- or whatever we get these memories and abilities from, and while that's not the reason we ended up together now, I think it's what helped us notice each other that first night.

[In the background you can hear a murmur of:]

Well, that and the fact that I was naked and spinning around a pole. I mean, that's the sort of thing most people notice.

[ NOT ASKING THOSE KINDS OF DETAILS. ]

Thank you for answering. I was curious since the chances of that sort of thing happening before all of this would be pretty low.

[ and he isn't sure if he would have been okay with the idea that they are drawn to people from their "former lives" without completely remembering them. too cliche. ]

Don't worry about it, it's not like it was overly personal or anything. Not that that's stopping some people. And while the chance might seem pretty low it still seems to be happening here from time to time. I think there's a married couple who presumably knew each other from before all this. And one of Fay's siblings turned up here for a little while, though she seems to have forgotten all about it now.

Also, I am so sorry about him. I would love to blame it all on the stress of everything but... yeah he's kind of always like this. You get used to it. Kind of.

Don't worry about it. I just wasn't prepared for it.

[ and really he's not some kid ~~yet~~. should be okay with hearing people who are blunt and honest. ]

Anyway... So just about anyone could turn out to have these "past life" issues.

Ah, no, it wasn't that deep. Almost took is nipple off, but apparently he's decided to be stoic about it.

Probably, yes. [Yes, it was completely necessary, shut up.] Not to mention kinda awkward to go to the doctor with, right? "Excuse me, doctor Strider, but my boyfriend the vampire done cut my nipple off while re-experiencing very primitive eye removal surgery, could you stitch it back again?" [That is followed by a smothered giggle from Fay, and a groan that most likely comes from Youou.]

[ Youou isn't the only one groaning. ]

I wouldn't call that primitive surgery if it was eaten.

[Yeah, you can hear that he's grinning, but he's not even sure what else to call it. What possible purpose can eating someone's eye serve?]

And yeah, I did. That's why I've got the claws, along with eyes that turn yellow sometimes and the ability to jump onto street lamps if I feel like it. Weirdest vampire I've ever heard about, but there it is.

[ Nate pauses. Vampires don't exist. Or shouldn't. It's what he's been telling himself since he was 15. ]

No sucking blood or fangs? Just claws and weird eyes?

[There's a laugh there, low and wryly amused.]

Well, the blood-drinking is kinda why I'm a vampire, you know? Everything else is just weird extra stuff. Definitely no fangs, thank the Lord.

[ lucky this isn't video. Nate is rubbing at his neck. ]

Yes, I most definitely do. [A small, exasperated sigh.] Tried not to, once, and ended up fainting in the bathtub. After that I've kind of promised the boyfriend not to do it again.

How do you manage it without hurting someone.
