[ video + text / iPhone ]
[The video starts with the camera swinging upwards to focus on the top half of John's face. He looks a bit disheveled: his eyes are bloodshot, he's got bags under them, and his hair hangs loosely around and in his face; it just looks like he hasn't been sleeping for a few nights now. He scrubs at his jaw, trying to instill some sense of energy, and fails miserably.]
July 28th, trial number... [He turns his head to the side, like he's looking for something, and when he can't find it, John huffs in tired annoyance.] Christ, I don't remember anymore.
[John returns his attention to the camera, brow furrowing with concentration. After taking several deep breaths, he closes his eyes, and when he opens them, they've gone black. The laughter that follows is hollow and breathless; it drops off quickly when John shuts his eyes again. They remain closed for longer this time, almost like he's afraid to open them again, but when he does, his eyes look perfectly normal.
He repeats the exercise two more times, as if to make sure that he really does have control over... whatever this is, and with each success, his smile grows larger and larger. The camera finally cuts out after John lets out a whoop, and a few minutes after the video is uploaded to the network, some text is added as well:]
Has anyone seen anything like this before?
[He doesn't expand on the situation. Nope, this guy is heading out ASAP to buy a pair of sunglasses.]

[Julien, you are amazing. You have seen everything! He is happy to hear this. Sort of.]

[A moment, and he switches to video for a few seconds. A close up to the upper parts of Julien's face, without glasses. It can be hard to tell eye colors casually, but while his are blue there's more of a pearly or silver look to the centers of his irises. He pins his pupils, making them very rapidly go from small to so dilated his irises can barely be seen to nearly-invisible pinpoints, and back to small. Julien then closes the extra eyelids hiding in the inner corners. They're clear but somewhat dark and impart a weird shade, and don't reflect light as clearly as a bare eye.]
[And back to text.]
A lot of people have changed colors, or got functional and sometimes glowing machine eyes. For a lot of them it pretty much just seems aesthetic.

Glad I'm not alone then. How did you manage all of that when it first started? Because I don't feel all that secure about myself at the moment.

[Sure, scaring himself in the dead of night is one thing, but hey, everything still looks the same way when his eyes are altered.]

But I'm getting used to that.

Your lungs, your sight--and probably some other things that haven't been mentioned. I know you said you panicked at first, but you're taking all of this adjustment so well. I'm envious and applaud you. :)

All right, I like you, I'll hit you with a bit of my personal philosophy: Sometimes if you act fine, and controlled and calm and that shit, well enough then people believe it, and you believe it, and then you're most of the way there. Sticking to text is good with that. Gives you time to think.
And really there are some things that never change. Some things just need doing. Some people rely on you and if you don't go do things they're left shorthanded. Small things stay the same, or different big things do.

[Really, he's got no room to complain when comparing himself to Julien.]
You know, I've never been much for texting before this, but I've come to agree--it's by far the best way to reply to the network, as you said. Plenty of time to look over what you've written and avoid shoving your foot in your mouth.

Right, right! Unfortunately there are some people here who've not much experience with reading, but it's hardly a hard-and-fast rule.

No... I haven't heard about the talking animals. We have talking animals?
[Why are there talking animals? Why, Julien? :(]
